Everytime I think about my Vow Renewal, I think....am I crazy for wearing a wedding gown??

I imagine myself responding to people who ask if Im getting married & when I say Im already married they look at my like Im a lunatic or Im a little over obsessed with weddings.

Is it inappropriate to get all dolled up & all the works like a wedding, or should I keep it plain & simple.

I would really love to do the dress again, but like I said....I worry about the response I might get.

Any thoughts or ideas??:confused3

what would you do....really?!?!?!

Here is my Mom and Dad when they renewed their vows at Leu Gardens (she gave me permission to post the pic) I honestly think its up to you.

We're going full out for our VR in Dec! I'm wearing a full gown, which is my original wedding dress that I designed and had made over 10 years ago. Nigel is wearing a 'frock coat' suit with cravat and vest, and we're having Cindy's coach.
I really don't care too much what other people say or think - this is my dream and I'm gonna live it!:cloud9:
I say go with what makes YOU happy:)

Do what you want to do and don't worry about what other people may think. There will always be someone who thinks someone else is "crazy" or "inappropriate" and so what. If you want to get a new wedding gown for your VR then go for it :thumbsup2 There are plenty of people who think a Disney wedding or Disney VR is "crazy" on it's own - nevermind them!

My mom would have renewed her vows to daddy on their 45th anniversary in Las Vegas, unfortunately she did not make it. She planned to wear her gown, and my sister, nieces and I would have worn bridesmaid dresses. She tried her gown on before she passed and it still fit! No one would have dared called her "crazy" :goodvibes

I am planning our vow renewal after only 5 yrs of marriage. I have every intention to go ALL OUT! What's Shania Twain say in that song? The white dress the dance the cake THE WHOLE DANG THING! I want it all. Forget what everyone else says. Its your fairytale girl! Bippity Boppity Boo!

its funny cause typically i would say "to heck with everyone else"

I dont know why this go to me, but I hope it goes away, cause I really like to dress up & play princess for a day!!

Thanks for the support girls...nice to know I aint crazy:goodvibes

Hi,
I just did a vow renewal in december for our 10 year wedding anniversary, I too had some doubts in the beginning of getting a dress, my original plan was wearing my dress from 10 years ago but I was hugely pregnant at the time (8 months ;) ) and could not get a dress that I really wanted. So this time I went with my daughter (9 years old) to the bridal store and I looked at some dresses when I found one I liked I tried it on and asked her what she thought about it. She answered mommy you look like the girl in the princess diaries movie princess: Well that sold the dress for me!!!::yes::
Everything was amazing we also had the cinderella coach and the response has been great, I remember when people congratulated us at the gf my hubby said it was our 10 year anniversary and people responded really sweet, and told us how beautifull I looked. So really don't worry about it and do what is in your heart! You will not go wrong I had a blast with preparing and everything and my 3 kids looooved every minute of it.:goodvibes you can see our pictures at www.tazfoto.com under sneakpeek/ proof Gwendolyn and David . Enjoy your planning!!1:thumbsup2

Myprincessgirlisa, I'm throwing my hat into the ring with all the others. Do what you want and don't worry about it.

For my FTW vow renewal two years ago, I chose a simple, off-white dress. I didn't bother with a veil and I didn't wear the train that came with my dress (it was obviously detachable). Here is a photo after Rick and I said "I do - again" on the night of our 20th wedding anniversary: click here.

Congratulations on your upcoming vow renewal!

Lisa,

From another Lisa doing my vow renewal July 12, 2007 I know where you are coming from. We are just having our parents, siblings and nieces and nephews and I think they thought I was nuts for looking at gowns at David's Bridal. My sister and hubby have been very supportive however. I have now narrowed it down to four dresses and have decided too bad what others think. This is my day and disney is the place to feel like a princess. We did the traditional at home big wedding 10 years ago. This is more about us, where we are at our lives now, and who we really care about the most. Since I doubt I can talk him into another full blown weeklong affair like this time, I figure I better pull out all the stops! Good luck with your searching and do what feels right to you!
Lisa

On a side note, janet2k, thank you so much for sharing all of your wonderful pictures and details of your events, they have been helpful on more than one occasion----we even printed out your centerpieces from the Wizard of Oz room to take to Laura as ideas for our Mad Hatter Welcome Brunch!

I'm planning a vow renewal for 4/2 (15th anniversary) and also went through the dress dilema. I originally envisioned a tea length white dress, but stopped in Davids Bridal on a whim and found a gown that I loved. It's full length with a very poufy skirt. I agonized for a while that it was a bit over the top, but finally decided to go for it.

As others have already said--it's your day and your memories so do exactly what makes you happy!

Congrats on your upcoming VR, JLoane. And I am very jealous of your gown. I was too chicken to try on such a gown but would have killed to have gotten up the nerve. I bet you'll look beautiful in it for your VR. By the way, if there is a link to an on-line version of your gown, please post it here so Myprincessgirlisa (and the rest of us!) can view it.

Livinthedisneydream, congrats on your upcoming VR. I, too, bought my dress at David's. It sounds like quite a few of us around here have. I bet you'll look lovely in whichever gown you ultimately pick. And make sure to post a link to it here on the Weddings board so we can all see what it looks like.

You're welcome regarding my photos/stories. And Laura was my Floral Event Manager so she definitely knows how to put together the perfect centerpiece. ;)

Well since you asked...

Here's the link to my dress:

It's style 6280 at www.davidsbridal.com in case the link doesn't work.

I've also agonized about what everybody else should wear, but here's what I'm thinking as of now: My husband is wearing khaki pants with a blue blazer, white shirt and pink tie. I worry that it's not dressy enough given my gown, but really like that look . My sons (10 and 13) will wear pink oxfords and khakis, and my daughter (9) will wear a flower girl dress that's sort of similar to mine--beaded top and poufy skirt.

We leave for Disney 5 weeks from today!!!:yay:

You are definately not crazy for wanting to wear a wedding gown. You really want to and hey-- thats what they are made for!! I know you will look beautiful (judging on your daughters great features!)..... I say go for it girl!

I say go for the wedding dress.. and why not its your VR.. you will look amazing...

Your dress looks beautiful! I have narrowed my choices down to 3 or 4 at David's Bridal as well. Style v9202, t9309, t9100 (without the halter since I am wearing the Swarovski Cinderella choker) and t9104, which I think may be Maggimus' dress if I'm not mistaken! Also, it's my sister's 1st choice. My hubby seems to like t9100. I think because of the lace up back detail. I'm leaning towards that one (t9100) as well because of the crystal details that would go with the choker but also love t9104. Any opinions? Oh, and I will need to order it in a size or two larger than on the models---ok maybe more than that---haven't quite worked off the extra few from the three kids!

So, Janet will you be at the Grand while we're there around July 12th? Any fabulous parties in the works?

Lisa, Personally im bias...;) . I do love the t9100 though-- its so much like mine except for the back and the straps. I love the lace-up back. The skirt on the t9100 is going to be a little less wide as mine t9104-- so thats something you can consider in too. Whichever you choose will be perfect-- i LOVE skirts like that!:goodvibes

Lisa,

First, all 4 possibilities are gorgeous! Good luck with your decision!

And as for extra pounds after 3 kids--I know exactly what you mean. And I realized that I can't call it "baby weight" anymore when the baby is now 10! :rotfl2:

And just be aware--I found that the gowns that I tried at Davids ran VERY small. I had to order 2 sizes above my normal dress size. Not sure if that's true with all their gown, but it absolutely was with the ones I tried.

Thanks for the kind words, I think we have narrowed it down to 2 t9104 and t9100 so we'll see what happens. The sales person told me a new sale should be starting March 3rd so I'll probably wait until next weekend to decide. And yes, it's amazing how small those bridal gowns run! I do remember that from the original wedding. you'd think they'd make it so we can all order a single digit size for one of the few times you want most to feel skinny! I realize it's only a number but still! I really just hope to make this decision so I can move on to other fun details. And I really do need to be better about posting. Maybe I'll start a planning journal but w/ the 3 kids and hubby out of town for business this week, we'll see!

Girl, you are SO NOT CRAZY and SO NOT ALONE!!

We never had a 'real' wedding so this will be it for me - one shot at my princess for a day dream, so I am going for it. I found an excellent website that has beautiful gowns (princess style, etc) for $200 - $300.. I've spent hours on it day dreaming. :) It may not be the 'norm' and people may not understand it, but it's what's it your heart that counts.
