Hi everyone, I am currently in the process of planning my wedding in 2010 *fingers crossed* and had some questions. Has anyone done the Escape wedding and had a custom cake made? My DW and I are hopefully having our ceremony at Sunset Pointe. We don't really want the traditional white cake...we are both more the Mad Hatter type. Will they add this to an Escape package? We also don't want a reception we would prefer just to have dinner at Jiko's or the Coral Reef and was wondering will they let us decorate the tables? Our ceremony is going to be very small only 7 guest. Has anyone ever done this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all.

I am having a custom wedding cake. From what I've read it seems that anything covered with fondant has an extra charge. This is our cake:

We are paying $150 extra to have that cake. The Minnie & Mickey topper is given to all Escape brides regardless of whether you use it. I have seen 2 layer Mad Hatter cakes, but I know that is one of the most expensive cakes. I'm sure even the 2 layer is pricey.

As far as one of the restaurants allowing you to decorate your tables... I really don't know. We are eating in a private dining room and have been given permission to decorate. I'm not sure if Jiko or another restaurant would allow it in the main dining room.

From what I understand the cakes at sunset can not be changed. They need to use a special frosting because of the heat. I was soooo bummed because I really wanted to have my cake customized! So I asked for smooth frosting (like a fondant) and I will have fresh flowers for my cake.

Your cake is beautiful, maybe we will have to try the private room, or we don't really need to decorate. Have you ever heard of them not having the cake at sunset pointe...or ordering it seperatly and having it brought to dinner?

That is sad to hear, we may have to have their cake and order a second. You will have to post a picture of your cake it sounds beautiful.

You can definitely ask them not to do the cake cutting stuff right after the ceremony, they can coordinate for your cake to be delivered for your dinner later that day. Just let your coordinator know.

Yes, you can request to have your cake delivered elsewhere. Since we are eating at the CG, we are having our cake there. They are charging us $75 to deliver it to that location. Just ask you planner, other places may not have that fee.

That is what I was hoping! They seem to be amazingly flexible about things. I can't wait to get everything rolling. :rotfl:

Regarding dinner...some restaurants will work with you to customize menus and put out decorations - especially the nonDisney ones on Downtown Disney. Unfortunately, you aren''t allowed to wear a wedding gown in the parks (:sad2:) so if you pick Coral Reef you'll have to change first. However, Coral Reef does personalized menus and can arrange for a diver to display a sign for your party! :thumbsup2
