Wedding Cake served at Dessert Party

Hi girls!

I just wondered if anyone had had a) Wedding Cake served at their Dessert party and how much this was? Did you have to pay extra over and above the cost of the cake to have it sliced up and served at the party?

Also, how much are Mickey premium bars? I was thinking of doing a fondue station, Mickey premium bars & wedding cake for my wedding day dessert party?

Yes, I am doing yet more tireless research into budgeting

The dessert parties have set menus that can have some alterations.

We chose to avoid the dessert party and dancing by having our entire reception at Italy Isola West. We will serve dinner and cut the cake at the fireworks .

Thats a great idea..I'm trying to avoid the dancing too, and its so beautiful at epcot, especially in Italy.

We are going to use the money that a DJ would have cost us and separate dessert party to do a welcome/rehersal dinner the night before at Splittsville in DTD. We think our guests will love the fireworks and bowling . Plus its more us than what others expect.

If your dessert party is being held at a different location than your reception, then your cake would have to be displayed there, not at the reception, and you'd do your cake-cutting there. You have to pay a cake handling fee no matter where they display it (except at the Grand Floridian), but there would be no extra fee for having it set up at the DP instead of the reception. Disney has some restrictions on the display of cakes at outdoor Epcot locations, but it's usually not a problem.

Hmm...what if the reception is at the grand and dessert party is at sago cay? Would you be able to display the cake in the ballroom and have it served there?

They would just set the cake up out at Sago Cay. It's a pretty large undertaking to move a multi-tiered wedding cake around.

One idea might be to have it set up at the reception, cut it there, and then provide takeout boxes so people could take pieces with them to the DP—maybe the catering staff could even plate it on paper plates. Or you could have a small display cake at the reception and have them serve sheet cake at the DP....

Good to know they don't charge a cake handling fee - more petals on the altar for us

Thanks Carrie, great idea! I'm not sure we'll even have a dessert party, but was considering it as something special for our guests but didn't want to go overboard on the dessert offerings since we'll be having a dinner reception.
