The wedding charms is a Victorian tradition. Charms were placed between the layers of the cake with ribbons attached hanging out. The bridesmaids each pulled one and then whatever charm they got was symbolic of their future. For instance one might have a ring and then the girl that pulls that one will be married next, another might have a horseshoe or 4 leaf clover and that girl would have nothing but good luck, etc. It's a fun tradition that I'm considerring doing at the bridesmaid luncheon instead of the reception.
