Hey Everyone!! :wave2: Quick question. DF and I saw in our contract that we are allowed to remove the anniversary layer from our cake, but we are responsible for transporting it. We are from Indianapolis and we are going to be staying 9 days  after our wedding and then flying home. Family is also going to be staying at Disney and making a vacay of it.

How did you all transport your anniversary layer without it going bad and getting messy?? :confused3 Did you have to keep it cold as well? Thanks!! :yay:

I've been wondering the same thing!! I'm wondering if I could get some dry ice... muahaha... but then I don't think I could bring it on the plane. Hmmm. :confused3

this is waht happened with my cake.
Yes, my EM saved the whole middle layer and the anniversary layer, we took it up to our room at the GF. when we checked out, we gave the bell staff the middle layer, and kept transporting the ann. layer. we put it in the fridge. it was so hot, after all the trecking around, from hotel to hotel, to the airport, by the time we got it home, on the plane, the thing was completely caved in. I was upset but i really didn't make arrangements for it in advance, i really didn't even think about it. So when we got home, i had to throw it out, i was bummed for a few days, espeically since i lugged that thing around!!

we stillhave ours. But we drove. We packed it up and palced it in my parenst fridge at the Cb for a week and then bought tons of ice and placed it in a cooler. It made it home from Fl to NY and is now in my fridge. But we are not saving ours anyway....they taste bad after 1 year in the freezer. So we are having a party once our video and pics come in adn eating it them with a bottle of whine we got. It will be fitting. Di I metnion the chocolate castle topper in in there as well. I have no clue what to do wiht that.

You could take the cake top off property adn find a place that ships food maybe and get it to a family friend?? I am not sure your options

My mom was staying at OKW in a 1 bedroom, so she got the job of transportation of the cake home.

She froze it in plastic wrap and foil, and then packed it in rubbermaid to take on the plane as carry on. When she got it home it went right back into the freezer. We later (when it was fully firm) put it into a foodsaver bag, to help preserve it. I'm hoping it wont taste too bad but we've still got a few more months til we find out. I've heard you can use the fridges in the hotels just make sure you mark it all well so no one 'accidentally' eats it on their break.

So I fully recomend designating a cake transporter ahead of time. I also sent my dress and his suit home in an extra suitcase with his mom. Both of those things made such a difference when it was time to change hotels, and again coming home on the plane.

We stored all our leftover cake in a fridge at the poly. Then we lugged it home on the plane with it sitting in my lap. The flight crew asked if I could store it under the seat and I told them it was a cake and I didn't particularly want to and they left me alone. When I got it home it got wrapped in foil, cling wrap, and put in rubbermaid containers and then frozen. We had a bite of it on anniversary last week and it was still beyond super delicious!

Unfortunately we are not allowed to take it back to the UK - I checked with UK customs and its not allowed.

Means i'll have to eat the whole thing myself!!

I couldn't imagine having any left to even think about taking it home - but then I'm a greedy moo!!!!! I must remember to take paper plates and forks so we can start eating it as soon as we get back to our room :rotfl2:

I had an idea last night! I figured the anniversary layer is not going to last the plane ride home days after our wedding, so I thought- waaaait, we're having dinner at the Cali Grill on our last night there. So, why not eat it there! Hehehe

Coming from someone who just did it - sort of - don't save the whole layer. I got married 20 minutes from our new house, so that wasn't a problem, but freezer space was. Having a huge cake box in my freezer was just not practical for a year. My mom suggested cutting 2 pieces of the cake and freezing those because are you really going to eat an entire cake layer on your anniversary??? :) It would be much easier to transport 2 pieces instead of a whole layer. Just a suggestion! :)

THATS A VERY GOOD IDEA!! :cool1: I am going to do a combination of suggestions here! I am going to use part of the cake to have during our hineymoon romantic dinners, save two pieces, and carry them on my lap on the plane! Awesome!! :woohoo: Thanks so much Everyone!! :grouphug:
