Our LAST day – boo hoo!

We had to leave the Villa by 10am so I got up at 7.30 to finish the packing and woke the troops at 8.30. Last minute tidying up and we were all out by 9.30. It was quite sad locking away the key for the last time :sad2: I wonder who’s in our villa now?

Although I’d checked in on-line we still wanted to use the D T D check-in to drop off the suitcases – I didn’t want all my chocolate to melt in the trunk! There wasn’t a queue so it all happened very quickly and smoothly and the Virgin staff were very friendly and chatty.

We were soon on our way for our last Floridian breakfast. We drove straight to Perkins at Crossroads. Gabs had a cheese omelette, Gianni Frosted Flakes and pancakes, can’t remember what Enz had, I had 2 eggs sunny side up and pancakes drenched in syrup! $30 later we hit the heat again. It’s so easy to forget how hot it is when you’re indoors in the air-con!

The kids wanted to go to Goofy’s Candy Co at D T D to order their deserts to take home – They saved them in our fridge for a couple of days and they still tasted good!

Gianni had a Mickey Rice Krispie treat dipped in white chocolate, sprinkled with 100s and 1000s and topped with caramel drizzle.

Gabriella had a gingerbread man dipped in white chocolate & white choc chips and drizzled with white chocolate sauce.

We had a little look around the Disney Xmas shop the decided it was time to wave bye-bye to Disney.

It was really hot again today so we drove to the Florida Mall and mooched around in air-conditioned bliss for a couple of hours. We didn’t buy anything here – surprisingly enough :) We had a light lunch and made our back to the car.

We took our time driving to the airport and dropped the car off.

The flight was due to leave at 19.40. I’d booked a late return flight as last year, in October, we enjoyed a full, last day at Universal Studios. In hindsight if we went again in summer I’d book an earlier flight because it was so hot and we didn’t want to be too hot and sweaty! Although we did manage to freshen up and change clothes in the restroom I don’t think we would have felt too good if we’d spent a lot of time outdoors.

The flight was uneventful again. We got the seats we’d pre-booked. There were 2 empty rows of 4 near us. It was quite funny when a man literally lay down across 4 seats a.s.a.p. and fell asleep for the majority of the flight! Wish I’d thought of it! The other row was taken up by a mum, dad and their little son who would otherwise have spent the whole journey on his mum’s knee.

The entertainment system went on the blink again as it did on the outbound journey and had to be switched off and re-set about 10 minutes after it was started because some of the screens weren’t working.

Gabs & I watched Monster-in-Law – quite a few funny bits which literally had my laughing out loud!

Food was ok again – salmon for 3 of us and spaghetti bol for Gianni. Breakfast was fruit and a muffin.

We landed back at Gatwick at 8.40 am and gathered our belongings together.

It seemed to take forever to drive home – there was loads of traffic and I really needed a coffee! By the time we came to our 1st motorway stop it was mid-day and we had baguettes and drinks.

Enz flaked out for a few hours as soon as we got home. Gianni played out with his friends. Gabs played with her I-Pod and I emptied the suitcases.

The End! Sort of....

If you've managed to bear with me and get to the end of my ramblings - thanks and I hoped you enoyed them :)

End of Holiday Musings

We didn’t take many photos this year or use the video much. It was quite nice just to take everything in without worrying about trying to ‘capture’ it all.

We didn’t have a lot of character interaction in the parks because the children didn’t fancy queuing in the heat and decided to do all that next year.

The drive to the Villa was too long for us – 25 to 30 mins doesn’t seem long when reading it in the brochure but in real life, doing the journey 4 times a day, it takes FOREVER.

The Sherberth Road shortcut is a godsend.

Chef Mickey’s was fab!

The hot weather was great for drying off after the water rides.

The hot weather was not so great for everything else!

The summer wouldn’t be my first choice as time of year for holidaying in Florida – but I wouldn’t say no if it was the only time we could get there!

The rides didn’t seem to last for very long!

How did people manage to walk round the parks in jeans?!

Can’t wait to go again!

Was really chuffed when I weighed myself at home and had put 2 lbs on - unfortunately, thanks to having Oreos and Peanut Butter Cups in the house the weight gain has now risen a fair bit :rolleyes1

Enjoyed your report ~ Thanx for posting :goodvibes

Wanted to wait till I got to the end to post a reply but I promise I read every one ;) Sounds like August would be too much for me (I'm not great with humidity and extreme heat) but it was good to hear it from your perspective. Also glad you used the Sherberth Rd shortcut but it gives me a headache cos I'm really good at getting into disney this way, but I can never find the way out this way. Maybe you could share the secret :teeth:

Thanks so much for posting, I'm glad you had a good time and roll on for October (I'm counting down for October too)

Thanks for the report, we find August hot too.

Thanks for a lovely report, I do agree that when you've been a couple of times you don't feel the pressure to take as many photos or wait in line for characters as much. Sounds like it was uncomfortably hot though

Thanks for sharing your wonderful family trip. I've enjoyed reading both your stories and your opinions. May I offer an opinion of my own? A private villa with pool sounds tempting, but can see how a half hour drive to get from "home" to the parks would be wearing. I see from your trip list at the end of your report that you haven't tried staying at a Disney resort yet. I recommend it. What you lose in privacy is more than made up by the Disney service, the feeling that you're always "there" and the proximity to parks and Disney shopping. Even if you don't plan to spend a lot of time at your resort, the time you do spend at a Disney place has a very different feel (and I mean that is a good way) from any other accomodation, even very nice ones. You and your family are experienced Disney vacationers and don't reallly need advice, but since you are fortunate enough to make frequent trips, why not try staying at Disney sometime, just to make the comparison. Again, thanks for the entertaining report.

My apologies! Just took a more careful look at your vacation list and see that you have indeed stayed with Disney on an earlier trip to WDW. Totally missed it tucked in at the end of the listing that started with the Tradewinds at St. Pete's. Also missed the POR listed at the end of the trip planned for this Oct that starts at a Universal hotel. I'm not a very thorough reader! I better go back to my statement that you are indeed experienced Disney guests and don't need my advice. Really, you don't need my advice at all! Hope you plan to write a report in October.

SusanEllen - apologies not needed at all :) Really don't consider us to be experienced Disney guests at all and advice is always appreciated :)

The reason I chose a villa this time was that I was worried about the summer rains and thought with a villa we'dd have more room to 'spread out' if need be and could still use the pool.

As it happened it only rained on our 1st proper day and even then it was for a little while whilst we were shopping and didn't disrupt the day at all.

I really love the idea of a villa and would do it again if I could guarantee a closer location to the parks or indeed if we weren't going to do the parks much (yeah as if ;)) - as I booked through a travel agent it was a case of waiting until we arrived to found out what location we were allocated.

We live and learn.

We wanted to stay on site and have a villa so are now Disney Vacation Members which really suits us.

We may have to go in August in 2007. We have never been in the summer school holidays before but may be our only option next year. We usually go in October. What is the difference in the crowd level? We are hoping to go the last two weeks in August. I have found the flights to Orlando only a slightly bit more than the ones we got in October. I too am a bit worried about the heat but liked the idea of the water rides etc.

Thank you very much for all your reports.

We thought the crowd levels were fine. I too was worried about this but we arrived the week that the locals schools started back :) more luck than judgment!

Loved all your reports - thanks for writing them!

I think summer would be too hot for us - mind you could do with less rain than we had in March - it POURED

Claire this is where I get REALLY helpful - I THINK to get out of Disney onto the Sherberth Road we followed signs for Animal Kingdom....but I'm not sure

Sorry

:cheer2: Great trip report! I read it all in 2 hours- Just couldn't stop half way through! Thanx for writing!

We went in Aug 2004 and said never again becuase of the weather but hey presto, we are planning again for 2007 and it looks like it has to be August again.
Apart from the heat, did you only have 1 day of rain? For us, apart from the extreme heat, we had 2 days stuck in the villa because of hurricane Charley and a day at Epcot, Seaworld and Downtown Disney were written off becuase when it started to rain, biy did it rain (and it didnt stop for a couple of hours!) -in fact at Seaworld, we had to hide under the stairs in the Shamu stadium and were stuck there for almost 2 hours as the lightning was so ferocious we were too scared to run across the walkway across the lake!

Anyway, I just wondered what your experience of the weather was becuase it was exactly a year after we went. It looks like we might need to book August again becuase its the only time all the family can go but my husband isnt keen so I am trying to convince him otherwise!

LisaGirly - yes we only had rain the once on our 1st day. It was one of the things we were worried about and although on a few evenings there was thunder and lightning it never developed into rain.

In 2002 we went in October and we had a couple of days when it just rained buckets continuously so I guess there's no guarantee.

Fingers crossed that you get good weather in August.
