Unless I find a rate for June much better than currently advertised for On-site I am going to have to look for the next best thing.. DTD hotels.. are there any websites that I can sign up for email notices etc for special deals at any of the DTD hotels? thanks

Unless you end up at one of the DTD hotels that is very close to Downtown Disney, there really isn't much advantage to staying at these hotels.

They no longer have EMH (except Hilton), they no longer use Disney transportation, and you get none of the other Disney perks such as charging to your room from the parks.

Some of the DTD hotels are nice, but just going 1/2 mile further to the hotels along 535 will give you a lot more options, and probably save you additional money. For example, Cypress Pointe is very close to Hotel Plaza Blvd, but has bigger rooms for less money than a lot of the DTD hotels.

Also remember that getting to Downtown Disney doesn't help much for transportation since the buses leaving there only go to the resorts.

I just don't see much advantage to the DTD hotels, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Why does it have to be a DTD hotel? Is it because you won't have a car and you want to use the shuttles??

Because if you have a car, there are many other good options close by.....and many are cheaper. :)

I REALLY want to stay on-site because I like using Disney transportation all week and not having to rent a car, but also the whole feeling of being in a whole other "world" for the week. I was hoping if the DTD hotels provided a shuttle to the parks in the a.m. we would use Disney transportation all day and being walking distance to DTD we would still feel the Disney other "world" magic for the week...

If larger rooms aren't an option, and you really want to stay onsite, I'd go with the All Star resorts or POP Century. Being that transportation/disney perks aren't really an option anymore except for the Hilton, I'd look into one of the value resorts. I've stayed at all the All Star resorts and POP and gotten rates anywhere from $55-$110/night depending on the season. They sleep 4 comfortably and could fit a pack 'n play for a child under 3. You will definitely feel much more immersed in the "magic" staying at one of these resorts vs a DD hotel imho.

Why would I stay at a DTD hotel-

While I prefer staying on site it doesn't always work. Over the years I have stayed at all but two of the DTD hotels, usually the reason is a good, or very good, rate. The last time I stayed at Best Western Lake Buena Vista the rate was $60 a night. I got two queen beds, a balcony and a great view of DTD and toward the Parks. It took me less than 15 minutes to walk to DTD. I had a car so I can't address the bus issue in getting to the Parks. I like some of the DTD hotels better than others. There are just times I would prefer spending $99 for a room at the DTD Hilton than quite a bit more at a Disney resort. But if I can get the moderate Disney resort for $99 or a woods view at Wilderness Lodge for $135 I'm probably on site.

One caveat- have to think long and hard about a garden room at Grosvenor, to much like a motel room from the 1960s or 70s.

I totally agree Phrank! I stayed at a DTD hotel in May and while it wasn't Disney, it was only $65 a night and I really enjoyed being able to walk to Downtown Disney. I'm not a fan of Disney's value resorts, if I can't get a moderate, I think I would chose to stay at DTD hotel over a Disney Value.
That's just me though.

The hotel I stayed at in May actually was the Grovesnor and I TOTALLY agree about the rooms! WOW, do they need remodeling!!!!!!! The room was clean and everything, but pretty dated and just in need of an update and some minor repairs. Other than that though it was a great location.

I did use their buses...only on the way TO the parks though and I loved that we were the last pick up, so we went right to the parks. To get back, we hopped a bus from a resort to DTD and then just walked across the street to The Grosvenor.
