Does anyone know what the best site for buying a domain name is? Where does everyone buy theirs from?

godaddy is cheap and works OK.

http://godaddy.com

8.95 year.

takes a few days for forwarding to kick in 5 email forwards for a buck a year. 5 bucks a year for masking

Yahoo is 35 with unlimited email forwards no masking option

I have used both bothe seed to work fine.

can you post a lot of pictures and file transfers and stuff?

I think you're confusing buying the domain with site hosting. Just owning the domain name doesn't give you a place to host your site. Some companies will do both, for simplicity, but if you use Register.com or Verisign you'll need to find yourself a hosting company as well. We've had our domain since 96. At that time there weren't many hosting sites around. We used a small company in Maine called GWI for a number of years. We now use XO. We renew our name every year through Verisign (Network Solutions) which is where we bought it way back when.

thank you tina!! How do you like XO?

I think its great. It gives us the freedom to do things that some other hosts won't - like run CGI scripts and the like. You also get complete control over website forwarding. I think we're paying about $20 per month right now. We had started out with them about a year ago on a promotional rate of 13 months for $199 (prepaid). Now we're just on a 6 month renewal program, but the rate is higher. They have several levels of hosting. Check out their website for more info.
