Website for possible upcoming storms?

Hi all. For the last 5 years, we have gone to Disney the first week in October and NEVER remember having to worry about tropical storms, hurricanes and such this close to our trip which is now less than 3 weeks away. Very nervous, not to mention how horrible I feel for all the people already affected by storms. We won't go if things are still crazy weatherwise, not for my children and certainly not for everyone just trying to get back to normal.

So that said, does anyone know of a website that shows the beginnings of storms that 'may' turn ugly that could then 'possibly' affect Florida? I know weather constantly changes, but if we need to cancel, I'd rather not wait to do it until the last minute. Thank you!

As a Floridian, I have a keen interest in the tropical weather. :)

Here are the three sites I few daily (though lately it's been multiple times a day).

National Hurricane Center - Gives an excellent forcast/advisory and projected path

Accuweather - Love their "expert summary" It seems the meteorologists here take the NHC facts and extrapolate some additional predictions, a bit more "global" than just the forcast facts. Additionally, if you scroll about 1/2 way down the page you can view the satellite for entire Atlantic Basin and see what's coming off of the African coast and/or the Cape Verde Islands.

Wunderground - I view Wunderground almost soley for their computer models. The have a map that shows all 5 hurricane projection models on one map. It's great to see!

Hope that helps some.

Oh Goodness... thank you to both of you... now I have more info than I've ever had. What great sites!

Another good one is http://www.hurricanealley.net

This one is a geek site; I have to emphasis that it is NOT a gov't site. However, it has REALLY nice charts that show very detailed wind intensity projections, breaking down the usual NHC projection cone into greater detail. The historical maps and charts available here are really interesting.

To find a specific storm that you wish to get an update on, look down the left-hand column under the heading North Atlantic, to the bottom of that section; there will be a list of "Active Systems" that you can link to.
