Hello,

I posted elsewhere that I have chosen a very busy time to visit DLR but as it was combined with a convention, I had little choice...

When I went to WDW last year, I signed up to "touringplans.com" and they have an estimated crowd level by day. I was wondering if there is an equivalent website site for DLR.

Basically, I wanted to know what to expect on MLK weekend and which days to pick (sat, sun or mon). Since it's a long weekend, the regular rules may not apply !

Thanks
Julie

Unfortunately no such calendar exists for DLR. In general DLR does not have the planning resources that WDW has for several reasons. The most important one relates to the visitor mix. At DLR 70% of the visitors are locals on day trips. Add to this that DLR has less than half the visitors each day as does WDW. With so few folks there on multi-day "vacation" visits there is just not as big a customer base for such resources. Hence there are less resources.

With regard to MLK weekend, it has been many years since I have been to DL in January so I cannot give you any first-hand advice. Since Monday is a non-MM day I would pick that day for DL. Since Sat/Sun are MM days I would pick Sat for DL and MM (if I only had one MM over the three days) and would pick Sun for DCA. But I would still park hop all or most of the days. I would just spend more time at DL on Sat/Mon and more at DCA on Sun. :)

Thanks HydroGuy ! I have been reading through your tips and have found some great info !

If you had to choose only one weekend day, which would you go with: Saturday or Sunday (bearing in mind this is a long w/e). We will definately do either Sat or Sun, part of the day on Monday and all day Tuesday. It's our first California trip so my BF wants to see Hollywood and some other things.

Thanks !
Jule

Assuming no special events/holidays, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday are generally the least busy days of the week. So out of your choices, Tuesday is definitely the day you devote completely to DLR.

Also, just to warn you, your Hollywood idea may be shortlived. Me and my DW (at the time was my GF) decided to take a break from DL one day and go see Hollywood. What a pit that place is. It is not as glamorous as it sounds. Movie stars don't live in Hollywood, they live in Beverly Hills. You might want to go there instead and check out all the fancy stores where you can buy $500 T-shirts. Just my $.02. :)

Actually - that's the problem - it IS a holiday weekend !

So during a 3 day holiday weekend - what the best day ? Sat, Sun or Mon ?

WooHoo 500$ Tshirts ! Right up my alley ! :rotfl2: You gotta love people who can spend that much though !

We thought we'd do the Holywood and Highland, visit the Kodak Theatre, Grumans Theatre, short walk on the Walk of fame, have some ice cream at the Soda Shop - not a long day for sure. Is all this open on MLK monday ? Our holiday's in Canada are mixed - some have everything closed, some most everything is still open. Not sure how it works over there on MLK day ...

Everything is open on martin luther king day except mail and banks.

January is a slow time even with MLK. Not even close to summer crowds. Go to Hollywood on Saturday and do Disney on sunday. Sundays are less busy because all the time. If you have a choice/time do California Adventure on Sunday and DL on Monday.
I love the soda shop in LA! It is one of the few reasonable palces to eat in that area and the ice cream is good! Like the other poster said... Hollywood is dirty and disgusting, but if you don't expect much and enjoy the history of it then you will be fine for a short day.

What about doing Hollywood on Friday evening ?

My convention finishes on Friday 2-3pm. Can we make it from Long Beach to Hollywood before traffic gets real bad and see the sights there in the evening ? We have to change hotels that night to get to Anaheim. Would that be an option ? Leave Long Beach around 3pm, get to Hollywood, poke around there some, have supper, stay til 9-10pm and travel back to Anaheim ?

I hear ya that Hollywood is no great big deal but if I'm going to travel all the way from the east coast of Canada to the west coast of the US, I'll try and hit the highlights !

There is just too much to do and not enough time to do it in. (Frankly, I'm wondering if I can skip out of the convention and just see the sights !)

There's the Aquarium of the Pacific, the San Diego Zoo, DL/DCA obviously, Hollywood, the beach (#1 on my wish list: putting my feet in the Pacific ocean !) and not nearly enough time to do it all. I'm trying to cram it all in before I return home to the cold...
