Website for Concerns DUring Trip At Disney

LarryZ, it was NEVER health inspector VS doctor. We were both just giving our opinions and sharing our knowledge. I know from your posts, you are an
instigator so I will just ignore your ignorant comment. I will stand by my comment that you cannot diagnose a foodborne illness without laboratory tests that confirm it.

You are correct. Without laboratory testing, there is no way to say for sure that an illness was food related. None. Nor will restaurants or anyone else take a complaint of it seriously unless those tests are done. Even the health department wants testing done before they go into an investigation.

And to be blunt, nor should they. If a restaurant jumped every time someone said "OMG food poisoning" then they would never be able to do anything else. Especially somewhere like Disney when people can have any number of things causing digestive distress. Heck, we see it all the dang time on these boards.

In other words, if you think you have food poisoning, go to the dang doctor and get tested. Otherwise, stop claiming it because you have no proof and are simply spreading rumors.

Sharing an opinion? That's not what I saw... You said flatly that the OP's diagnosis was "impossible." (Sounds like you were "instigating" a bit yourself).

I weighed your and her self-stated professional qualifications, and commented that I trust a doctor's first-hand observations over the second-hand opinion of a "health inspector."

I'm sorry if my observation hurt your feelings.

Health Inspector and Myself are equally qualified to do what we do. We are not in an argument. Please don't make this something it is not.

Please don't start accusations. I am not spreading rumors. When we do a stool culture we don't check for all forms of bacteria - we just report the most common ones/reportable ones. A culture does not rule out all pathogens that cause food poisoning. We are trained to say which it is most likely and as long as symptoms resolve we don't necessarily check a stool culture. I was simply trying to be a responsible person and let Disney know in case others were ill. I am also not here to give an entire medical lecture. I am also more hypervigilent about this as if something takes out a group of soldiers when I am deployed it is BIG deal...hopefully for obvious reasons.

This is really turning into something it was not intended to be. In my professional and personal opinion, my husband had food poisoning. I am very aware I could be wrong about that. However, it was not the issue we had. We did not ask for any compensation regarding any of this and did not expect it. The issue was getting help letting Tusker House know. I know a lot of people try to "get" things when something goes wrong. Maybe someone could close this thread since it seems to be rearing any ugly head that does not belong on a Disney board.

Thanks again for all your advice! I learned some things from many of you, and my expectations in life are what usually get me into trouble. :) Something to work on.

OP-I hope you get a response from guest services about everything that happened. It's one thing to have one or two bad experiences with customer service but to have that many is very unfortunate especially when we pay so much for our precious vacations. You are definitely an optimist and positive person to still think about all the fond memories you will have from your trip.

My hubby had the same thing happen to him a few years ago. He ate at Chef Mickeys and then at downtown disney later that night so we think one of those restaurants caused him to get sick. We think it was food poison too since the amount of time it lasted and no one else got sick. Never fun to be sick on vacation and sorry so many people are questioning whether it was food poison or not. I feel buffets are just not good places to eat especially since so many people touch the utensils and such. We try to stay clear of them at home but still do them on occasion at Disney due to the characters. No matter what though anyplace can get you sick at anytime.

I feel for you and I do hope guest services gets back to you about all the customer service issues

Good luck

As someone whose only qualification in diagnoses is having stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once, even I know food poisoning can take up to a few days to manifest itself.

I don't doubt the physician, there just isn't any way to know how her husband got food poisoning. May have been at Tusker House, may have ben a day or two before at home. The isue is clearly that she wasnt helped, especially by AKL, with any of the few but memorable problems.

You should write to guest services for sure. Last Feb our trip was terrible, but the worst part of it was went things went wrong the managers didn't really care. We had a manager tell us "what do you want me to do?" After getting a filthy room and towels with holes in them. I feel a lot of times they are super defensive and what most people with problems want is just to be heard.
