Web Cams.....(or lack of!)

I asked this question some time ago and never really got a convincing reply.

At one time there were several Disney cams available to be viewed online.
They all stopped for some unknown reason.
Do I think too simplistically.....when saying that something like live webcams at the parks and elswhere would be a relatively cheap, effective way to advertise their product?
I do recall someone speak about bandwidth and extra costs associated with it.
But,I think the benefits of mass advertising via this medium would more than pay for itself many times over.

I am sure they also looked at it from a security standpoint. If it makes the parks safer without webcams so be it.

With all due respect...I think the opposite would be true:
(ie:Webcams would probably be safer......not that this would be their main purpose)
Why would webcams make it dangerous??

Because you can be sitting in your house watching the crowds, or lack there of in different areas. Sort of like casing the bank from your living room for an example.

I like web cams as much as the next person but in this day and age I think you have to draw the line somewhere.

Other a few days throughout the year....the parks are never NOT busy.I'm afraid I'm not quite"getting" your analogy.
The fact is that webcams are positioned at famous landmarks and tourist locations throughout the world and are used for nothing more than someone like you and I checking it out to see "whats in store" for our potential upcoming visit.
I think TiggerFreak's suggestion is more the truth....$$$$$

If you want to see whats in store what is wrong with photographs? I am sure Disney is concerned about what the web cams can be used for. Many web cams came down after 9/11.

I don't know about you but if Disney needs to save money somewhere web cams would be a good place to start.

I don't think I need to explain my reasons any further.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree !!

But...I will end this thread by saying that your quoted comment is probably correct......as Tigger and I agreed, its about $$$...
In our humble opinions.

Yes we will have to disagree on this one. You asked for opinions and I gave one. It doesn't bother me that the webcams for WDW don't work anymore. If it bothers you why not write Disney and ask them?

You didn't answer why you feel the webcams are important? Short little videos of the parks or photos work to get you in the mood.

Just my humble opinion also.

Would'nt you agree that if you were preparing for your first visit to The Magic Kingdom, your exitement and enthusiasm would be far greater if you could click on link the day before you left home and see "exactly what is happening right now"...(as opposed to a picture taken last November)?
I think it makes it "more Real" and adds to the excitement to be able to bring the kids to the computer and show them a Live shot.

Media coverage of nefarious deeds do far more to instill fear and futher the aims of evil doers than any webcam ever could.

The attitude that we should change our lives out of fear, is contrary to the ideals that this country was built on.

If really wanted to eliminate targets we should all move out to the sticks and not associate in groups any larger than 2 people!;)

Decisive and unquestioned retalliation is the only reaction to terror and evil that is appropriate.
Living our lives in fear is giving in.
I refuse to.

We still took our planed trip to WDW in Oct. of 2001.

The cams were more than likely taken down because they had no return on investment that could be imediately quantified.

As to their importance.
They were cool and fun.
Isn't that enough?

Nicely put TiggerFreak...
Even as a non-US citizen,I could'nt agree with you more!

I agree, it was probably because they could not see any quantifiable return on investment, it is always the bottom line, you know.

I just took a survey on disneyworld.com and one of the things it asked was what would you like added to the site - one of the choices was web-cams, so hopefully, if enough people chose this, they will return them to the site! I really miss them!!!
