What's the difference between Scattered T-Storms and Isolated T-Storms?

Semantics? ;)

Actually this one, and the whole partly sunny/partly cloudy thing have always interested me.

I actually asked my husband this same question. And, although he isn't a weatherman, he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express! Just kidding, he is a pilot and knows SO much about the weather.

Scattered thunderstorms are more widespread. Isolated thunderstorms just hit small areas sporadically.

Hope that helps!

I can call my Dad and ask him tonight. I know I have asked him these questions before, but I don't remember the answers! ;) :)

I was HOPING you would check in Jenn Lynn--I remembered someone's dad was a meteorologist, but could not remember who it was. :teeth:

I sent him an email at work. He should get back to me soon if he is not in meetings. I will let you know what he says! :)

OK here is the quote straight from my Dad:

"Believe it or not, the NWS really does have criteria and values that apply to the "isolated" and "scattered" wording used in our forecasts. Isolated (thunderstorms, showers, anything) means only about a 10% chance of occurring - usually very few and far between. Scattered means a 30% to 50% chance of occurrence and usually more areal coverage.

"The partly cloudy vs. partly sunny thing is really goofy. They mean exactly the same thing, less than half the sky covered with clouds - the only difference is party sunny is used during day light hours, and partly cloudy is used during night time hours."

There you have it. I hope this helps when you are listening to weather forcasts. :)

Jenn... tell your Dad thanks!

Regarding the partly cloudy/sunny thing... our weatherman here explained it this way.... Partly cloudy was more sun than clouds and, partly sunny was more clouds than sun.
