Weather protection - Vortex Rain Cape? or Build my own?

With a shiny new DSLR (not water resistant) in hand I was thinking about how to protect it against splashes and such - oh like during Splash Mountain rides.

My first thought was to simply buy an inexpensive lens hood (many varieties for less than $15), cut a hole in a big freezer bag and hot glue the bag to the lens hood.

I saw a more 'engineered' product online - the Vortex Rain Cape - which uses a drawstring arrangement around the lens/lens hood.

Any other suggestions?

i have an optech rain sleeve that costs $ 5 for 2, i still have both ( 3 yrs later) and keep one in my bag. it protects pretty well for splashes but not if you happen to drop your camera in the water;)

Thanks - that Op/Tech looks good enough - I don't need an underwater housing, just something to keep the weather (manmade or natural) off of the machinery.
