I'm in the (very!) early planning stages of a 2022 trip and I have my eye on a two week stay starting probably the last week of May, including Memorial Day weekend. I don't want to pull DD out of school for two weeks, so that leaves summer. I'm hoping that by traveling as early in the summer as possible we'll avoid at least some of the heat (or at least humidity). I'm also wondering how Memorial Day affects park crowds, for Mem. Weekend itself the tentative plan is:

Friday - Epcot
Saturday - BB or TL
Sunday - AK
Monday - AK

I know this trip is a-ways off, just trying to get a picture of what to expect! At this early stage we can always adjust plans (or at least expectations) if needed.

Cant speak about crowds, but Ive been many times mid thru late May (around 15th through 25th ish) and the weather is PERFECT! Very little rain if any, and when it does rain, its usually only 20 or so minutes around dinner time). Low humidity and low to mid 80's, I have never been over memorial day. My last trip was in March, so its been a while since a May trip, but crowds were pretty low back then (2008, 2010, 2015) Just in general though, crowds have increased a lot over the years, so I couldnt tell you what its like now in May. Rumor has it summer attendance is down since most are waiting for Star Wars and a few other new attractions to open in the fall.

I remember our first trip to WDW in late April years ago and the weather was 90s and humid. Our last trip was in early May 2018 and the weather was 80s and pleasant. I would expect it to be mid-80s at least when you are down there and somewhat humid (the REAL summer humidity shouldn't have kicked in yet).

I would expect it to be crowded at WDW for any holiday weekend.

Hot, humid, chance of afternoon storm.

Whether or not it “feels” humid to you will depend on your tolerance to it at home. I personally have a harder time acclimating to the Florida humidity in early June simply because my cold Midwestern body hasn’t experienced it in months. But when we go in July or August, even though it is “more humid,” I adjust quicker because it has been humid at home. (Hope that makes sense?)

Thanks! This is going to be a 12 night trip, and the benefit of going for so long is we can go at an easier pace and take afternoon resort breaks. The plan for every park day is to go for rope drop, tour until 1 or so, return to resort for break, then head back around dinner time until park closing. We'll beat the bulk of the heat and crowds this way (at least I hope we do).

So it sounds like we can hope for mid 80's with low(ish) humidity but 90's with high humidity is equally possible. And crowds will probably be easier to predict after SW:GE is open for a good amount of time. I hope the bulk of the madness over it will have settled down by the time we go, but if not we'll roll with it.

We went Memorial Day weekend back in 2016 and I vowed never again. Granted this was a graduation present for a younger relative who lives in West Palm so timing was not up to me. But the crowds were insane and it was unseasonably hot. If I had any kind of choice I would avoid any holiday weekend.

Le sigh...I was worried about that. Plus we're looking to rent DVC points so it might be tough with holiday dates. Ugh, I'd hoped not to pull my DD from school for two weeks but there is just no way we can handle mid-summer heat/humidity and touring over any school break period is going to be huge crowds and trouble with securing rooms with DVC points.

This will probably be her last WDW as a young child (next FL trip after this will be to Universal for a week, and we can suck it up and go either during spring break or over the summer), and we'd have plenty of down time at the resort for her to study and complete school work. We can take her out mid-May just before school ends, it will still likely to be hot but hopefully we'll slip in between the Easter crowds (Easter is super late in 2022) and the Memorial Day/Summer crowds. I'll have to talk it over with DH and see what he thinks. Nuts!

Weirdly enough that couple of extra weeks seems to make a big difference in terms of crowds and weather. I find it far more manageable, and we are planning on mid-April or early May 2019 depending on how late the After Hours events will be available. But we don’t have kids and school schedules to plan around.

I’ll just say though that it is doable in the hotter months with enough resort down time. Rope drop, mid afternoon breaks at the resort, and evening touring got my family through many a summer when I was a kid.

Well we're planning on mid-day breaks regardless of when we travel. But when I spoke to DH he wasn't keen on taking her out either. Ah well, at least there is something to be said about planning a trip 3+ years out, we have plenty of time to weigh our options!

As a teacher, I agree with not taking your daughter out of school. My DS and I are going Memorial Day weekend this year. I rented DVC points (Boardwalk- Boardwalk view) with no problem. This is the long weekend that worked for our schedules. It may be really crowded. It might not be. We'll deal with whatever comes our way. After all... we'll be in Disney!
A couple of years ago we went for Veteran's Day/Jersey week. Everyone said how horribly crowded it would be and I got really nervous. It was fine. We didn't notice it being more crowded than any other time we were there.

Yeah if it was just one week of missed school I'd do it, but two is just too long. DH and I talked a little about it a few days ago and we're strongly leaning towards going as soon as school is out, if it's over Mem. Day then it is. I use Touring Plans and between that and mid-day breaks hopefully we'll manage to avoid the crowds and the worst of the afternoon heat.

The last week of May and 1st week of June is our sweet spot for getting a jump on summer, but not missing any school. We have three trips under our belts that fell during this time. In my experience, even that early, it's already hot in the 90's and humid. We have had moderately rainy trips and very rainy trips. We have also experienced actual thunderstorms, with lightening and everything, raining for an hour or two. I was so confused by everyone saying that it would rain for 20 minutes and just step into a store until it's over. That's where the ponchos and/or umbrellas come in. On our 2018 trip, we did both the ponchos and the umbrellas in an effort to NOT be drowned rats. The days that were mostly cloudy were actually nice, since the clouds blocked out the sun and gave us a break from the heat without actually raining on us. I always make sure we have 2 pairs of sneakers each, so one can be drying out if we had a lot of rain.

As far as crowded, I think weekends are always crowded. I consult a crowd calendar and plan my park days based on how crowded each park is going to be. That means we do Magic Kingdom on weekdays vs. weekends, for instance.
