Weather in October?

We are planning our first trip home to OKW Oct 18-25. What is the weather like mid-October? Rainy, hot, cool enough for pants? We have always gone in early spring or September, so I have no idea what to expect. Also, how crowded will things be with F & W going on?

It is DS (6) Fall break, and it is the only time we could go this year

We went in Oct. 2007, from the 14 to the 21st. It was hot, hot, hot. In the 80s almost everyday. Epcot was pretty crowded with F&W but at the parks although it was crowded, the wait times for attractions were not very long. And I say that having a 2 year old with us and it was very manageable.

We had just two long waits - one was at Peter Pan's ride and the other was at the restaurant behind Cinderella's carousel, I can't remember the name.

I'll be there from the 9th to the 17th of OCT. I hope there is no
hurricane. I'm assuming it will be HOT.

We are regular October visitors. Last year seemed extra hot. But generally the weather is pretty good - i.e. warm enough to swim every day, not so hot that you worry about heat stroke. Usually its late enough to skip the rain, but its the tail end of hurricane season, we've been lucky enough to miss the big storms, but we've sometimes missed them by a few hours. I bring one pair of long pants and a jacket "just in case" and generally don't use them.

F&W does add crowds - so does the Halloween party. Also, if you hit Columbus Day (you won't) that weekend can get crowded.

We were there in late October 2004 and had beautiful weather -- around 80 F for a high every day, mostly sunny skies, and only one day where it rained, and that for only about 10 minutes.

Last October we were there around the same time and encountered rain almost every day, including a couple of torrential downpours, cloudy skies, and temperatures in the low 80s.

Those average temperature charts will show Orlando having highs in the low-to-mid 80s and lows in the 60s for October, with less rain than average over the summer months.

We were there October of 2006, 20th thru 29th. The first 2 days were horrible, in the 90's. Then it started to cool down and by the 5th or 6th night there we were freezing at night. Then it warmed up a bit then and it was nice the rest of the time.

It reminds me of here in SoCal. When it comes to the weather, the thing that you can count on is that it will change.

We've been many times in October and the weather is generally very nice. Except for the hurricanes. (Small chuckle here.) And even that wasn't too bad. The resorts are safe and Disney kept us well entertained and fed. And the parks are EMPTY the day after a hurricane. It's like having your own private park. (Yes, I know hurricanes can be bad things. I grew up with them as a youngster in Florida. But we went anyway and had a great time.)

As others have said, go prepared for both warm weather, wet weather (ponchos) and weather on the cool side (sweatshirts/sweaters), especially at night.

So happy to see this was already asked as I was going to ask it. We have been in May and Sept, never Oct. we are going the 5th to the 16th. Last year we went Sept 1-12th and about died from the 98 degree weather with 100% humidity...it was horrible! I was hoping that going a month later we would get some cooler weather, still warm enough to swim and "enjoy" the warmth but not have sweat pouring out of every pore. What do you think do you think we need to reconsider timing?

We went in Oct 2005 and again in October 2007 (around 3rd week of Oct both trips) and both years it was HOT! HOT! HOT! We went to MNSSHP last year and it was miserably HOT (even in the evening!). It finally cooled down our last 2 days -- down to high 70s during the day.

i've been there in October, I find the humidity to be a killer. 84 degrees is one thing, but with the humidity - it's like 95!

that being said - I so can't wait for my October trip this year!!!! Heat or no heat - I'll be there!

I've only been there in mid-September once and that was WAY too hot for me. But we wanted to try the Food and Wine Festival so we are going Oct 18-21. I'm not a fan of heat and humidity, hope I didn't make a mistake booking that early in October. We're already going the first week in December so I was trying to put a LITTLE time between trips. :)

We have gone a number of times in October. Just so you know where we are coming from - we live in upstate NY. For us....OCTOBER ROCKS. We have had days in the 90's, and days in the high 70's, but for us it is like extending summer. The days are gorgeous, and I dont remember feeling at all like it was too hot during this time. Since we have done WDW a number of times, we take the relaxed approach. We usually go back to the resort and spend the afternoons at the pool. So, we get to the parks early, leave around 1:00, and go back in the evenings.

We are going around the same time you are this year, we love going during the Food & Wine Fest!!!

Again - for us we have never found October oppressive - it is our favorite time

We were there the week after that (Sept 13-21) and it was MISERABLE! I am kind of excited to check it out later in the fall!!

October is a great time to go to WDW. The weather has moderated from the hot, humid typical summer days to a much more manageable range. Sure you can still get some hot days, but you're also likely to get some cool(er) nights. Bring shorts for daytime, and long pants for night. Enjoy!

We go down during WI Teachers convention and this time of year can be iffy but still great. Last year was a little rainy but nice, 2006 was hot(in the 90's), 2005 was hurricane Wanda and 2004 was perfect(80-90)

So the weather can change but with DVC you can wash clothes daily so we always bring a mix of weather clothes

We will be there the 16th - 26th this year

I went about that time in 2003 and the weather was absolutely perfect. Mild temps and it really only rained one night. On the other hand, I've gone the first week in October twice (2005 and 2007) and both times were "Oh, no! I'm melting!" This year I got to pick the dates and we'll be there for the last week of October. Hopefully, it will be nice.

We were there for Halloween week last year, and there was a fair amount of rain, during the day and evening. Trick or treat on Halloween, in DTD was in the rain. During the day after the rain, it felt chilly. We didn't have changes of clothes for the children, and that's one thing I would do differently. The previous year we were there in August, late October was better weather, cooler but then we did have a kinder sunshine than it had been in August.
