Hi
Going to Disney world May 16-23
Concerned about humidity especially while wearing a mask. Though I am vaccinated I obviously have to comply even though my asthma and COPD causes issues on a normal day wearing a mask (but I struggle through it any way) is the humidity going to be an issue?
Anyone do this yet?

Ok was concerned because last time I went to DW was in 2003 (took my choir class) and the humidity was so bad it filled my
Lungs with fluid.

We experienced unseasonably hot and humid temperatures in late October when we were there, and of course had to wear masks. We don't have lung issues so I can't speak from that perspective, but I did find that the mask made me perspire quite a bit more than usual. My face/hair were the first to bead up. I also found that at rope drop when I was "walking briskly" to get back to certain rides, breathing more heavily in the mask during that kind of heat/humidity was rough.

I know many people recommend the paper disposable masks as they tend to be the most breathable. If you go this route, keep several in your park bag so you can change them frequently. I wore cloth reusable masks and had to wash them at night, and my face broke out horribly. There are also moisture-wicking style masks made by Under Armour and Adidas that may help too. Also, take advantage of the relaxation stations in the parks if you need a reprieve.

Take extra masks and change them out when they get damp. We have the reusable cloth masks and what we do is, I take a ziplock bag in my backpack with extra masks. When we sit down to eat (or if one is getting too wet) we change them out with a clean dry one. I keep another empty ziplock for those masks and wash them by hand when we get back to the room and hang them on the hangers. Most if not all are dry by the morning. If you use disposable, still take extra. It will make a lot of difference. Have a great vacation!

Woah. Ok, that’s sounds scary serious. I would absolutely wait until the mask mandate is lifted, even if that means next year. While May won’t be as bad as July, it can still be sucky hot and humid. (Hurricane Season is forecast to start early this year, May 15, fwiw.)

If you already have trouble on a normal day in your life wearing a mask the physical walking WDW requires + heat + humidity could be disastrous. I love WDW but that is just so much risk.

May is less humid than the summer months however no one can predict the weather. What I will warn is while in general not Humid it gets Hoooooot in the afternoon as the sun is very strong that time of year. For us the mornings were great but around 3 the sun was very strong and we felt like we were being baked,

To add we have gone in June a few times and to me that was the worst time I recall days where it was 96 with humidity numbers to match and other days where it was over 100 and high humidity. so the earlier in May the better for above.

I live in Fl and also have lung issues ( lung and a half and COPD ) and have worn a mask ( Tommy Copper ) at WDW in the heat and humidity. I had to take a few breaks and if it's really humid use disposable masks and change frequently. It's doable if you use the relaxation areas around the parks.

What are the relaxation areas around the park and why are they mask free? I hadn’t heard about these

The "Relaxation Zones" are mask-break areas. This info is in the Re-Opening thread on the disABILITIES Forum:

RELAXATION STATION LOCATIONS
These are areas where guests may remove their face coverings within the parks. Social distancing is still required within these locations. Possible limit of 30 minutes, but that doesn't seem to be officially posted. Hand sanitizer is available at the entrances.

MK has 3 locations:
  • Adventureland - between Adventureland and Frontierland, next to A Pirates Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas and near the (closed) Golden Oak Outpost dining - allowing some tables to be used for the relaxation station
  • Tomorrowland - at the Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant, which is currently closed for dining; this location is open air but also has A/C vents
  • Fantasyland - at Pete's Silly Sideshow in Storybook Circus since there are no character greets; this is a completely indoors, air-conditioned with some tables/seating and other circles designating areas for groups to stand
AK has 2 locations:
  • Discovery Island - at the (closed) Pizzafari, allowing use of some tables and chairs; this location has A/C
  • Asia - near the entrance to Up! A Great Bird Adventure named Upcountry Landing, with tables and chairs, overlooking the waterway; bonus is ability to see some character cavalcades from here
DHS has 2 locations:
  • Star Wars Launch Bay (This is an inside air-conditioned location that served as a character meet and greet located in the Animation Courtyard)
  • Near Rise of the Resistance (This is an open air location that will be located near the Rise of the Resistance ride)
EPCOT has 2 locations:
  • Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (This is an inside air-conditioned location that served as a character dining location in Norway in the World Showcase)
  • Yorkshire County Fish Shop (This is an open air outside location located in the UK Pavilion in World Showcase)
  • Between Mission Space and Test Track (This is an open air outside location located in Future World East)
DISNEY SPRINGS has 1 location:
  • near part of the M&F tram loading area

Just be aware that there can be a line (at which point the 30 minute limit may go into effect). I didn't bother with the stations in February as I'm not overly bothered by a mask, but especially in Epcot I did see a line for Akershus and Yorkshire County Fish Shop more than once. Didn't pay attention to the ones in MK or AK (and didn't go to Studios), but I would suspect they may also fill. So it's not necessarily an "on demand" thing. You might have to wait.

Also, we were in Epcot today and the CMs informed us that the relaxation station in Akershus didn't open until noon.

We went last July. It wasn’t bad at all. I also have asthma. The only time I’ve really struggled is August. AK seems to be more humid but I think it’s done intentionally with the plants and all for the animals. If you need breaks there are places you can go in every park and sit in the air conditioning.

I was there for almost two weeks last August. It was hot wearing a mask, and I did find the disposable masks to be more comfortable. I took four spare masks with me to the park each day, and most days used two of them. When changing masks (usually after eating) I would wipe my face with one of my hand washing towelettes before putting the new mask on, which felt very refreshing and kept my face from breaking out. I won’t lie, it was easier in December than August, but August has never been comfortable, mask or no mask. May would not be as bad humidity wise as August, although it could be just as warm. We typically don’t get the super high humidity until our wet season starts in June.
