Weather In December??????

HELLO! WE ARE GOING TO WDW DEC 5-10 AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME HOW THE WEATHER IS AT THAT TIME OF THE YEAR.WILL BE TRAVELING WITH DS 2YO & 10 MONTHS OLD AND DD 8YO.WILL BE STAYING AT VWL.

Could be cold. Could be warm. Basically you'll have to bring a little bit of everything, including winter coats and gloves.

It could get into the 70s during the day, or stay in the 50s/60s.

At night, you will need some degree of sweater / jacket / coat depending on how low the temps go.

There's also a risk of rain, but December doesn't typically have a lot of precipitation as a whole.

As tjkraz said, it can vary drastically. We have been numerous times the first two weeks of December and it seems to be different each time. We will be there again this Dec (3-12) and we will be bringing clothes for spring/fall (New England spring/fall) which consists of everything from shorts and t-shirts to jeans, sweatshirts & light jackets. We assume the days will be nice (70's) and the evenings it will drop (40's/50's).

It could be in the 30's (Hat, gloves, and blanket for little ones), or in the 80's (Swimming).

I bring one pair of jeans as well as shorts.....

and if it's cold, you can't find sweat shirts, or hats in all the sizes, because they sell out fast.

Better to bring them, just in case.

Oh, and I like to bring a little fleecey blanket for my daughter, so while waiting for the parade she can snuggle.

We go every Dec and have only ever needed pants and a fleece sweater on 1 trip it has never been cold enough for a winter coat. We have had temps in the mid to high 80's and some days as low as about 65. The evenings are nice and we would wear a long sleeve shirt if the need arises and a pair of jeans. It also depends on what the climate is like where you are from we live in Ontario Canada and we have some cold temps in the winter mind you we have also had some warm winters so it is all what you are accustomed to and what you can stand. We have also never had a problem with swimming in Dec it has never been cold enough to keep us out of a pool or waterpark. When we went one Feb it was colder than any of our Dec trips with much more rainfall also.

As previous posters have said the weather in Dec. can vary greatly, I have said this before and some may think I am making it up but.....I have gone to many MVMCP and I have worn my ski jacket at many of them! The weather here can change in a few hours from shorts and tshirt weather to downright cold! When it is 40-50 in FL it is cold because it is so damp, so defineately bring some long pants and sweatshirts. But also check the weather channel site for a forecast for the week you will be here. Last year, I wore jeans and a long sleeve top to the MVMCP and was comfortable but the next day it was cold, almost felt like late Fall in Wisconsin! I always go the first week in Dec. but most of Dec is like that also Jan. Just be prepared, and if you don't want to pack to heavily most resorts do have laundry and you can always wash a load. And do bring the blanket for your little one!

Last year, Dec 3-8 it was very chilly a few days!!! We were unprepared and had to buy sweatshirts and even leave Epcot one night because it was so brrrrrrr.... The day we were in DTD, I beleive Sat the 6th, we were one of many on line in the stores buying warmer clothing. On the otherhand, we were in shorts some other days!!!

Pack for any weather!!! This January's trip I will pack 8 days warm clothes and 8 days cold clothes, coats, light and heavy, sneakers and sandals, bathing suits and blankets!!
Good thing I drive and have lots of luggage space!!!

We were there last December 8-16 and found that the temperatures varied from day to day. The day we arrived, we could have wore shorts and t-shirts ... but then the next day it had cooled down quite a bit. I wore jeans and a t-shirt and found it slightly cool because of the wind. I found it was best to dress in layers since it could be warm in the morning but cool in the evening.

Yup, December weather is iffy. I go down the end of the month. Last year was gorgeous by day and chilly at night. Back in 2000 it was 32 degrees on NYE!

We were there for 7 days in 2002.

Day 1 - shorts
Day 2 - shorts and then raincoat
Day 3 - long pants, jacket, hat, gloves
Day 4 - shorts
Day 5 - shorts
Day 6 - lifejacket for drenching, cold rain
Day 7 - raincoat, then shorts

And - in the evenings - no matter how warm during the day, it chills off fast when the sun goes down, so you have to be prepared for a sweatshirt or jacket.

But, being from Maine, you could always tell me from the natives. I'm the one standing for the night parades in a short sleeved shirt.

I remember one December (3rd week I think) that pretty much all of the plants were killed due to freezing temps.

Yup, you never know what you are going to get in Fl in Dec.

I've gone the first or second week of December the past 6 years. Three of the years it was perfect (98, 99, 01) - highs in the high 70's/low 80's, nights just a little cool. 2000 was cold, highs only in the low 60's and down into the 40's in the evening. 2002 & 2003 were a mixed bag. 2002 had a lot of rain, twice we had 24 hours + of straight rain.

On the day we arrived last year, the high was only in the low 50's! We went to see Wishes that night and I was so cold, I had on a flannel lined denim jacket and gloves, sweater and jeans. It warmed up after that, we had some days in the 70's. Watch the forecast and bring a light winter coat and gloves if the high temps are 60's or below. My Mom laughed at me when I brought gloves in 2000, guess who bought a pair there? They bring them out at the cash registers when it's cold, just like the ponchos when it rains. I noticed they were selling alot of santa hats last year.

Most of the comments have covered the possibilities. I have been going to Orlando the week before Xmas since 1997/1998 (boy time flies). Most of the time the day temperature is in the mid-70s. During the evening, for the various fireworks, it may get a little cool to the point of needing to wear a light jacket. One year at Epcot, I didn't bring a jacket, I ended up going into a store to purchase a sweater. Another time during the evening, the temperature was in the mid-to-low 20s. The orange growers were doing everything to try to keep their plants warm. For some reason, spraying water on the plants seemed to be the best solution. I think this works because it gets warm again during the day. When I lived in Grand Forks, I wouldn't have recommeded it.

Most of the time the weather is pleasent. You just need to be prepared for it to be cold (warm is never a problem). Even there, when it was cold, there was less people at the parks and less of a line for the rides!
