Weather in December

We are cruising December 11-15 on the Dream. Will the water be too cold to swim in at Castaway Cay or on the ship? Will we be able to wear sundresses/shorts on the ship, or will we be in jeans and sweaters the whole time? Is the sea usually calm or rough at that time? Is there anything else I should be aware of for our sailing at this time?

We sailed in Dec and Jan in the past. Water on CC was nice, though a bit cooler than normal. Takes about a minute to get acclimated. Air temperatures were fine as well, usually 70s and 80s. The weather was actually really great with sun almost every day. I don't recall any problems with waves, but they don't bother me anyway. I personally wore shorts all the time. I wouldn't pack sweaters but maybe a light jacket if you plan to sit outside at night.

We are currently booked on this same cruise for the Star Wars premier. - although also booked on the Fantasy and haven't decided which im sticking with yet.

We have cruised three times in December and have never NOT been able to swim due to cold, although it did begin raining at CC around noon on our trip this last December.

Cool! Maybe I'll get to meet you. Totally off topic here, but do you have any idea when they would be showing the Star Wars premier onboard?

It is hit or miss. I usually cruise that time of year and I've had freezing CC water and I've had cool at first but you get used to it CC water.

They normally PremEAR the movie at the same time as on land. I believe they have had 12:01am shows for PremEARs in the past.

If like it was for Rogue One and Force Awakens were on the Magic, it will show earlier than midnight on Thursday night (the 14th). We saw it around 10:30, but we were 2nd seating.

Those two movies premiered on land on Thursday before Midnight also. It all depends on the rules they set for the release.

We usually go early to mid December; it's our favourite time of year to cruise. Usually it's warm enough to be in the pool. The water at CC seems cool no matter what time of year, even the one time we were there in May but you adapt quite quickly. Winds can be quite brisk at CC in December so even if the temperature is warm, the winds can be cool especially when you just come out of the water. I find that swim shirt helps with that as well as keeps you from frying because no matter how cool it seems, you can still burn fairly fast.

We were at Castaway two days after Christmas and the weather was amazing! I could not stop telling myself and my family that here we were in December putting on sunscreen, running the 5k and still sweating and then enjoying the ocean, wearing swim suits! In fact, our Christmas picture for this year's Christmas card is us standing in bathing suits wearing Christmas ears and santa hats!

The water was cold shock for literally a second.. I thought the water was colder when we were in Nassau the day before!

Enjoy your trip! Can't wait to go back again in December!

We were at Castaway Cay on December 30 last year and it was EXTREMELY windy and cool. We weren't able to dock at CC until 12:00. There were a few hardy souls in the water that day but we weren't that brave! But we had great weather the rest of the week.

I just have to ask...what are Christmas ears?

I'm one of those people who thinks the water at CC is cold whatever time of the year! :-) When we cruised last Oct. my family was making fun of me when we were in Tortola snorkeling because I used a "shorty" or spring wetsuit. I think it depends on how you tolerate water temps. My kids will get in the water at beaches up here in the Pacific Northwest and act like it's nothing :crazy2:
