DH and I are going to Disney in early December. We were wondering what the weather might be like at this time of the year. Also what kind of clothing should be bring with us.

I'm afraid there's not an easy answer to this question. Last time we went in early December it was hot for the first couple of days, in the low 80's and then as the trip went on it got cooler. One night at Epcot it was really cold, in the lower 40's and we needed to wear our winter coats. Of course, we are from Alabmaa and you are from New England, so my idea and your idea of cold may be two different things . . . lol!! You will just have to check the weather as it gets closer. We are going back this December also. We have 4 kids, so I'm pretty sure our Suburban will we packed down with tons of all different kinds of clothes.

Gosh this is a hard one. DF and I went December 13-16 last year and it was HOT like 85 and humid every day and I didnt need a coat ONE time at night. Prepare for anything. :santa:

It's pretty much a crapshoot. I almost always go to WDW the early part of December. Usually, it's totally gorgeous (60's, 70's, sunny) but I've had a couple of times where it's gotten chilly, and I've needed a jacket. One year, it was out-and-out COLD, and I ended up buying a fleece-lined jacket.

As long as you have something warm to throw over your clothes, and a pair or two of long pants, you should be fine. I really love WDW in December (and all the Christmas decorations are up. It's gorgeous!)

Here is exactly how weird the weather in December can be. I arrived on December 17th and it was 34 in Orlando.
It was colder there then it was here on Long Island when I called to tell my husband we landed.
We were in jeans and our winter coats all that day. By that night I had to buy gloves. The next day was a little better. I was comfy in a fleece and jeans. The day we left I was good in jeans and a T.

We are heading down this December with the kids and I am planning on packing lots of layers. Since we are leaving from the cold, we will have our coats with us.

Early December is a hard time to pin down with weather. My best suggestion is to check out the Weather Channel as it gets closer or even http://www.local6.com/news/index.html (it's the Orlando channel 6 news site). We have been many times in early December. It's our favorite time of year with the Christmas decorations.

If you aren't aware the first weekend in December is usually the taping of the Christmas Parade (with Regis and Kelly) in the Magic Kingdom. It's all roped off and you are only able to walk down Main Street along the shops and not in the middle of the street.

We have had years where our entire week has been in the 80s during the day and upper 60s-low 70s at night. Just this past December it was okay (70s) during the day but then quite chilly at night. We were in jeans and sweatshirts for the MK parade and fireworks. We would go out in shorts or capris with tshirts during the day, but then change into pants and take sweatshirts for night time. We have also been there were it is just chilly all the time -- jeans and sweatshirts during the day and added light coats at night. Just watch the weather closely before you leave. I would recommend at least one sweatshirt and one pair of pants for your visit.

we went down for 5 days in mid Dec 2004 and It was nice the first 2 days (high 60's) and absolutely freezing the last 3 days...and this is coming from someone who lives in N.H.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that it will be nice when we head back this Dec.

We have been to WDW the last several years in December. As you have read above, it varies. Be prepared for anything! One year (2006) the day we arrived it was 84 and gorgeous and sunny! We were swimming, etc. Each day, gradually, the temps went down until the last day of our visit, we were in sweatshirts with hoodies over them, with the wind blowing and we were very cold. In December, you just never know! I know it's nice to be able to pack lighter (i.e., shorts, t-shirts) for "Florida", but it's worth having the other stuff with you, too, because you don't want to have to go out and buy heavy stuff. It gets costly.

For us it has been a little easier to do that since we come from the Philadelphia area and it's cold up here in December, so we have to be dressed in it when we're leaving anyway. That allows us to "carry" some of our heavier stuff. We layer our clothes so we can take it off when we get to Orlando.

I wish you only great weather when you go!! (Us too ... we're going for Christmas again!!)

December is my FAVORITE time to go. We've been many times. This past December we were on our honeymoon, and were there the 10-17th. It was in the 70s everyday, nice and cool, we wore shorts or jeans everyday, short sleeve shirts/tanks. A few nights we did need sweatshirts. The day we left though it was COLD, I think it got into the 40s. So you really need to pack for anything, a few pairs of shorts, jeans, tshirts, sweatshirts. Be prepared for anything!

Agree with the others, hard to say. Hate to say but when packing be prepared for everything for that time of year.

Most Florida days in winter, and I state MOST, are comfortable, until you go on that water ride and if you're in the park after dark- who knows. :confused3

:thanks: Everyone,,,,,,,I will just have to bite the bullet and pack some New England Apparel. I'm sure I will be traveling down to Florida with my jeans and hoodie on. But will check with Accuweather :surfweb: before I leave to be on the safe side.....

we're going to WDW in the second week of December. I can't wait! Thanks for all replies.

Living in Florida I can tell you me and my kids do not own winter coats, or any kind of coat, the deal is the mornings are cool then afternoon it gets warm/hot depending on the weather, but it is never cold all day long cold weather the would be rare. At night it can get cold, so I agree with the previous post from a fellow Floridian it is sweater or sweatshirt weather. So basically if I was going to Disney in Dec. I would bring sweatshirts, to the park for evening when the sun goes down it does get cold.
:). Have a great trip

i sure hope it will be about 70, so we'll be perfectly comfortable. However it sure would be different to wear sweatshirts there! -like on the Samantha Brown Disney Holiday special where the people are all wearing sweaters. When we went in the first week of Jan. we were fine in shorts and a tshirt.
