Weather forecast question

Like the PPs said, it is likely that it will rain some during your trip, but it probably won't rain the whole time. The parks tend to clear out during the rain, so you can get a lot done during a rainstorm!

That said, we went in May 2009 and it POURED almost the entire weekend (no hurricane, just a very wet weather pattern). DH was not with us on that trip (he would not have enjoyed the downpours), but the girls and I were ankle deep in water at DHS until midnight. It was awesome. But I would pack an extra pair of shoes.

I would say the only time you would expect an all day rain is if a hurricane were coming through.

In 15 days in the World in the last two years we've had 3 days of all day rain. Not hurricanes and honestly, not bad given that we have more all day rains at home than that.

OP, One thing I did notice, fwiw, was that our all day rains entered the 10 day forecast at 90% to 100% and never varied. All the other days bounced back and forth, some days 100%, the next day it would show 10-20%, and repeat. And we might get a shower or two on those days. It seemed that if it was always showing a high chance of rain, it ended up that way. For us anyway and in late winter or spring. I'm not sure that pattern would hold up in summer though.

Folks, the weather in central florida starting now and running through September will have rain in the forecast every day. Don't panic! Its normal. You can count on daily afternoon thunderstorms just about every day. The storm will be heavy for a very brief period and then the sun will be out making everything steamy.

This forecast is better than any you'll get from the National Weather Service, The Weather Channel, Weather Underground or any of the local TV stations. :teacher:

If you do have a rain day, go go go to MK. We had a cloudy day with rain on and off about a week or so ago (May 4) and MK was empty. During the cloudy times we were able to do the outdoor coasters (Space, Splash, Thunder, Drawfs) and all the indoor rides during the actual rain. So even if it does rain for you (and I hope not!) do not let it deter you...go forth and get wet!

I usually check their local news channels online for weather 7 days before arrival
Fox35 Orlando and clickorlando.com and WFTV 9 ABC are the ones I usually check

Thanks for all of these posts. Like the OP, the forecast shows all day rain everyday during our trip next week and I'm bummed. I was really looking forward to the Florida sun. I'll keep focusing on the positive. Especially accuweather - which seems to give the positive outlook.

Most likely it will rain somewhere in the afternoon, probably between 3:00 and 5:00 and will last about 30 minutes. When it happens we usually get a late lunch or do an inside ride. When we come out, rain is over and it has not cooled down lol

Rain in June-August is always a given, and I have had the pleasant experience of a hurricane twice.

Note though: I was there May 13-17 last year and saw no rain at all. I attribute that to the fact that I carried my poncho with me every day. Had I not had it, it would have poured.
Yep, we get the coastal sea breezes meet in the middle of the state and you will get a storm that doesn't last long. Right know we could use a bit of rain or we get fires.
Hurricanes are not pleasant. The football team or the tropical storms. ;)

Going May 21-27...hoping for the quick storms and not all day rain...maybe get lucky and the forecast will be wrong :)

We will be there the 21-28th hoping for passing rain also. We were there in July a couple years ago and it was a monsoon for 2 days that was not fun

Looks like it will definately be a "liquid sunshine" trip later this week. Any advice for dealing with multi-day rains?

What weather forecast are you using? I'm not seeing a washout by any means. Nothing more than a passing shower or thundershower (which will be the forecast every day for the next 4 months). But to answer your question:

1. Bring at least 2 pair of shoes for everyone. If you get caught in a downpour and your shoes get soaked, it can take a good 24 hours for them to dry. If you have wet athletic shoes, stuff them with towels or newspaper over night to absorb the water. Take the towels/paper out in the morning and allow to finish air drying. Even leather sandals can take a day to dry.

2. Bring both cheap disposable rain ponchos and either good quality rain ponchos or jackets for everyone. Bring extra disposable ones. If there is no major rain in the forecast for the day just take enough disposable ponchos for everyone in case you need to be outdoors during a passing shower. If the weather forecast (that morning) is calling for long periods of rain, either wear or take the more substantial rain gear.

The parks tend to empty out when it rains, so we like to be prepared for a shower and just stay in the park to take advantage of shorter lines. Rain at Disney is really not the end of the world. Unless there is thunder and lightning involved, everything (for the most part) keeps running.

Since it's too far out for an accurate prediction, these sites are giving you the default forecast for late May in FL. I don't even have to look at it to know what it is. From now through the fall, it will be hot, and there will be a chance of rain every day, somewhere in WDW.

That's central FL weather. There is no site that will give you more detail than that, because they can't tell you how many minutes it will rain, exactly what time of day it will rain or where in WDW it will rain.

The PP had it right. Rain in the forecast just means there's a chance that it might rain some amount, somewhere in the forecast area, for some period of time. It doesn't mean a washout, or all-day rain, or even any rain at all.

Thanks for the advice. I've been looking at accuweather - Orlando for the forecast for 5/18 - 5/22. Looks like day long periods of rain each day. Maybe I'm wrong.(I hope so!!)

I just moved here so I'm still learning how to interrupt the forecasts myself. The weather literally just turned in the last couple hours to more humidity, rain.. it's suppose to be on and off rain for the next couple days and around 5/18 like your asking should be more of the daily style rain where you just wait 20 minutes and the weather will be different.

It's don't forget your poncho season...

The Weather Network currently lists 90-100% chance of rain for every day of my trip (May 20-23)
What weather website is the most reliable for WDW? How many days in advance can it be considered reliable?

In the summer (which includes May), it tends to rain every day, but typically only for a few hours in the late afternoon. It isn't usually an all-day rain.

I see typical Florida summer forecasts....there's going to be a chance of rain every single day between now and October. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the forecast you're seeing. At this point, I wouldn't expect anything more than a passing shower any of those days. Granted, that could change and I never really trust the weather forecast for more than 24 hours out in Central Florida in the summer, which is why I always pack the rain gear so we have it at the resort. We decide each morning if we need to take anything with us to the parks and 99% of the time, a few of us will take a disposable rain poncho with us. It's only that 1% of the time that I bother to lug the Disney rain ponchos with us. I really think -- based on the current forecast -- you'll be fine.

So here is a question: What happens if you have a fp for say 7dmt, and it starts to rain, if it rains during your fp time and it shuts the ride down, do they give you another fp?

If a ride is down during your FP window you'll be allowed to use it later.
