Any advice on the weather situation for the next couple of days?
We are driving Peterborough - BUF Friday morning and flying to MCO with SWA on Saturday early am.
A friend just told me that we are to get up to 30cms (Thrus - Fri) and the BUF area could be worse.

Any suggestions?
Any web sites where I can watch this storm closely since we don't have cable/sat tv?

Thank you

I use this website a lot for weather....really like the radar imagery tab to get a handle on where the snow is and what direction its going
http://weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/canada_e.html

I also use this site for traffic cameras. You can click on the 401 ones to see how its moving in TO and then there are ones for QEW that can give you an idea of how traffic is closer to Buffalo border.

Just take your time...by Friday, hopefully the roads will be in decent shape!

Keep the sunny side up, and the shady side down. The same advice I give my students............Give yourself a few hours extra time and listen to AM 640 and/or AM 680 for the road reports. Good Luck and have a great time! Tell Mickey I said Hi.....Rob (Snowwhite's DH)

I think you should be ok if you're flying out on Saturday. You might want to drive to Buffalo a little later in the day rather than in the morning...wait for the plows to get through.

I'm supposed to fly out on Friday morning from Toronto...I don't like my chances. :(

HI there I live on the order and can suggest two things, the weather for Friday is suppose to be awful.. So leave early.. I would suggest downloading weather bug, It is used by a few of the TV stations in Western New York.. Also check for up to date weather on www.WIVB.com it is one of the local stations for Buffalo. The weather that is usually forcasted for the most snow is the southtowns, near the lake. You should be fine getting to Buffalo Airport. But I strongly suggest those two web sites..

Good luck and drive safely..

I just drove 5 minutes in the current storm and it is SCARY. I can't see how DH is going to be able to drive us from here to BUF tomorrow. He is at work right now (in Lindsay) and I can't even imagine how he is going to get home after his midnight shift ends tonight.

Does anyone think it might let up a bit by the morning?

You're probably obsessing about it too much. :)

If you stay to the 400 series highways/QEW/major roadways, you shouldn't have any problem with getting to Buffalo.

If you have to track road conditions, both weather.ca and weather.com have sections on road conditions, so you should at least have a fair idea on what to expect when you start driving.

All the same, take a shovel and a bag of sand/salt with you in the trunk. If you get tired of driving, or need some time just sitting somewhere other than a car, look for the roadside shelters all the way along the highway. They're easily identifiable with the "Tim Horton's" signs clearly visible from the road. :)

We just drove home along the 403 and it was just wet. You will be fine. The snow has stopped here in Oakville now.

The QEW to Buffalo is clear, there are a few bands of Lake effect snow coming into Buffalo but it should pass before noon.. And you should be fine !
Have a great trip !

Thanks everybody for the info.
I am trying to get us out of Omemee by 10 am.
The plough hasn't come down our road yet this morning so we might have to wait a bit.
Hopefully the plough will come by soon. We have an an incredible amount of snow here.

I'm sure when you pass the Hwy 115/35 cut off, the amount of snow will be significantly less than in the Ptbo area. I'm always amazed at the difference in snow fall on either side of that area! The roads in Toronto are just wet. Have a good, safe ride!

The ride down here was fairly decent but the snow started again as soon as we arrived.
Supposed to get up to 10 inches overnight and then more tomorrow. Lake effects snow warning, so I don't know if we will be able to get our flight out tomorrow morning or not.

I have my fingers crossed.
