Weather better late June or late August?

Thinking about taking a summer trip. We were thinking mid to late June (not July 4th) but then it sounds like late August is better for crowds. My question is, is it THAT much hotter in August then it is in June? Or is the difference only a couple of degrees? And, do the parks close earlier in late August, do to lower crowd levels, making a mid-day break difficult? Thanks for the advice!

Hi,

The parks do close a little earlier in late August but you could still do a mid-day break. I think you'll need it!

It's very hot both times, but in my experience the mornings in August are muggier and warmer than the mornings in late June.

YMMV!

Based on the crowds, I would always chance a few degrees difference in late August. Think about it - waiting in longer lines at 85 degrees or shorter lines at 90!!! OK, not the official temperature averages but you get the idea! :)

It's hotter and there is more humidity here in August than in June. The end of August can be unbearably hot down in in Florida, August and September are the hottest months!
If it was me, I would choose the end of June hands down. Believe it or not, there is a difference between 86 degrees and 92!

Plus, don't forget that you are much more likely to run into hurricane conditions in August than in June. There are reports that there is supposed to be a very active hurricane season this year. :umbrella:

Definitely June. Late August Early Sept are teh peak of hurricaine season. And even if they don't hit like last year, they can still stir up a lot of rain.

Hmm, thanks for all of the advice. Sounds like a few degrees make a big difference. My kids are 5 and 7 and I worry about them in the heat. We always go during the school year, but now they will both be in school and I worry about taking them out. Maybe I will shoot for June, stay in a value and add more days on so we have more time to do the parks. I wanted to stay at the CR or maybe the Poly (dreaming!), and pay value season prices. Decisions, decisions!!

Well, just to put in another word...we have always gone in mid-August, starting when our kids were 8 and 5. I think the lack of crowds more than makes up for the extra few degrees and humidity. We've been fortunate to never run into a hurricane, and if you take away last year WDW has only closed for a hurricane one other time in 34 years.

But again, you need to make the decision based on what works best for you and you family.

What week/month is the lowest crowd level in the summer. How is the week after July 4th?

July 4 week is packed, the rest of July is just plain crowded!

From mid-August on the crowds start to thin out, because lots of schools are back in session by then.

GOOD ONE.. :rotfl2: Ned Land!!

But, I can tell you (as a South Floridian), I'd definitely go late Aug. before late June.

Less crowds and even though it's just as hot, the June SUN IS THE HOTTEST of the year!! Tends to be more rainy in Aug. but that means less SUN, so not as horribly hot, but still PLENTY hot :sunny:

We went in August last year. I loved it (of course I don't care about the weather) but DH said NEVER again. It felt like 110 degrees and it rained every day not for a short amt of time but for most of the day.

If you are shooting for June or August-either way, you will more than likely hit a light rain shower sometime in the afternoon. We have been at different times throughout the year, and for some reason, no matter when you go during the summer, a short rain makes an appearence sometime in the afternoon-no big deal really, because that can be when you go back to the hotel for a small break. By the time you take a short nap, and the kids play with the 50 dollar "I NEEEED THIS!!!!!", you'll be refreshed and ready to get back into the park.
If cost and time off from work is not a factor, and you are simply trying to decide between the two for the weather, both months are hot. June is going to be a few degrees cooler, but hot is hot when you're standing in line for 40 minutes. Make the best of it, buy one of those water squirting fans that you can get and enjoy yourself. :earboy2:

I would check to see any rooms are available for your June dates. I was trying to get into a mod at the end of June and all I could get was AKL or Fort Wilderness Cabins (the value resorts were all sold out also). I have a feeling that it will be hot, humid, and crowded no mater when people go this summer. :sunny:

It is like comparing hell to the surface of the sun.

Very hot both months.

Spoken like a true northerner..........and I agree. :rotfl:

I've been to WDW 4 times in June as a teen. Heat didn't bother me as much then. Ofcourse, the hour wait for a ride didn't bother me either. But I do remember it being very hot and very crowded.

Now, Aug./2004 we went the very last week, just before Hurrican Frances, I think?? Anyway, I thought I would die from the heat and humidity.

BUT.........at LEAST we didn't have to fight crowds TOO. I know it's a tough decision, but both are hot times. You might as well get SOME perk out of it. :teeth:

It might have rained twice the whole week, but I remember being inside both times. It got to be almost a joke to us.........."well, we're eating dinner in the condo, I guess it's time to rain". And then we would come out to go the parks again, and it was sunshine. Wild. But I know in Aug. it COULD rain everyday.

I don't think we will ever do the summer or Sept. again.........just too hot. But if that was my only choice, I'd pick the lower crowds/value season.

Good luck on deciding. :sunny:

June and August are BOTH hot! We went last year during the week around August 9th. It was nice because Florida schools had just started back and the park crowds were light. I would suggest the second or third week in August although it will be hot!

We are going the last week of August. I know it will be very hot, and will be prepared for that. Knowing the crowds will be less makes me happy. Last year I was there in September, and it was pretty hot then, too. Is August hotter then September?
