I was just curious, I was always told that wearing white after Labor Day is a no no...do people wear white/ivory on the cruise ship in the winter? Just curious, I have a beautiful dress for formal night, but, it is off white...thanks!

I think you will be perfectly fine. I have an off-white suit (aka winter white) that I wear all fall and winter.

Have fun! :goodvibes

Speaking as someone who lives in Central Florida, the whole "white after labor day" rule doesn't apply own here. Then again, I have worn a tank top, shorts and sandles to do some last minute Christmas shoppng!
Wear what you are comfortable wearing -- you are on vacation! ;)

That went out the door years ago.

Do people still do that? I wear white all year round...but then again, I've never been one to follow fashion trends. I say wear what you want to wear (as long as it is appropriate) and don't worry about what anybody else thinks.

Well thank goodness! I just occured to me, from reading this thread, that I had on a pair of white shorts today. It's hard to remember that it isn't summer when it's in the (high) 80s! We've only been here a year now - the seasons (all 2 of them) are still a bit strange to us.:confused3

I say bring the white! Happy Sails!

Well a friend of mine, who actually LIVES near WDW told me I shouldnt wear white after Labor Day on the cruise because I would look " out of place" of course my mother always told me the same thing too lol Thanks for the answers though, it is our first cruise and I definately worry about looking "odd"

It's been unseasonably warm in NJ this fall- it's 78 today....And yesterday I threw on a white sundress, I was out in front of my house emptying my van and I kept thinking someone is going to think I'm nuts in this bright white sundress in the middle of October!!
I wouldn't have gone out with it on...but on our cruise next week, I'm bringing that sundress!!!!:cool1:

You are on a caribean vacation . . . . Dont sweat it!! White is just fine.

I think a lot of first-time cruisers stress over what to wear. Don't. Dressing for the cruise is really no different than it is for a WDW trip, except for dinner. You will see all kinds of dress throughout the day and even lots of variety at dinner.

The bottom line is, looking "odd" is in the eye of the beholder. Don't worry about what anybody else thinks. Just go, be comfortable, wear what you want to wear and have a great time.

Why do people follow this? What does it matter?

My mom was brought up in an era where one DIDN'T wear white after Labor Day. She still thinks twice about wearing white shoes or sandals even though we live in Central Florida.

But today? Go for white whenever you want! It's a cruise and you will see all manner of dress. So bring that off-white dress for dinner and you will look FABULOUS! (or is that Fierce?)

Smiles,
Holly

Well I am glad you had the courage to ask, I wanted to but a little nervous about doing so.

I found a cute White dress for DD3 and so I decided to get myself a white summer dress for us to wear on boarding day, I thought it would look so "cruise-fashionable" when we took our boarding pictures. Well needless to say I bought the dresses in July, and we set sail at the end of Sept. And I thought there goes my boarding day outfit.... But now reading this thread we are back to white....yeppie

Thanks again for asking.

If I may throw this out there, another question I have been wanting to ask, but not sure if people would think I was one of those crazy mom's
What type of shoe do they prefer for the little ones to have on in the Oceainers club, Tennis shoes, sandles, flip flops or dose it matter")

Dress up in what is comfortable to you and what looks good. Most importantly, regardless of color and time of year, there is always one constant with a Disney vacation, someone will have a camera nearby. Therefore, always dress in what you think you look good in because there's a great chance there will be a few pictures taken in that outfit.

DD will be wearing her first communion dress when we go in March. That is as white as you can get!:thumbsup2

Here in Florida you have to go North to get into the South!!! None of those rules apply down here, we are tropical!!! Wear what you want!!

I also wear shorts, flip flops and tank tops in December!! It's a freakin Free For All!!! :yay:
