Wearing white before Memorial Day?

I have two big events coming up in April. One is my son's Catholic Confirmation, and the other is a work event (a college fair) that I help to organize.

I was thinking that I would like to buy a nice spring pantsuit to wear for both occasions, but so far, I haven't found one that I like.

I did buy a very nice blouse the other day. It's made of a georgette-like fabric with slightly ruffled collar and cuffs, and pearl buttons up the front. It's a floral print of sketchy-kind-of lavendar and gray flowers on a white background. I am thinking that it would look nice with ivory linen slacks and cream shoes.

So fashion consultants of the Dis, is it gauche nowadays to wear white (or off-white) slacks and shoes in April? Do you think this outfit sounds dressed up enough for these events? Or should I keep searching for a true suit? The blouse would pair nicely with a small crocheted jacket--I've been seeing lots of these in the stores--instead of a blazer. I'm not really seeing blazers in the stores either. I don't think they're "in" this season and maybe that's why I'm not seeing many suits.

My son is getting Confirmed this May. You do not have to wear a suit to church. You would be amazed what some people wear these day. What you descripted sounds nice. I am hoping the weather stays nice so I can wear a sundress. Any other Sunday I am in jeans and a nice top.

seriously????!!!! if people are upset by you wearing white before labor day, then they clearly lead very privileged lives and need something better to do with their time...

btw...the pantsuit sounds completely dressed up enough for these things...

The rule is passe. Wear whatever you'd like!! :)

And that outfit sounds great for both events!

Off white was considered the "winter" white and was acceptable year round so that was never a concern. I still have a hard time pulling out white shorts before Memorial Day but I agree, unless you are 70+, most people don't follow that rule any longer.

As far as I am concerned, the only "white" rule that matters is the one about not wearing obnoxious underwear that can be clearly seen through your white pants. No black thongs, no pink polka dots, no Superman boy panties.

I always thought that "no white before Memorial Day" rule was silly. You get a thumbs up from me on your outfit. :)

White pants on a woman with a good (or even above average) body may be the greatest gift bestowed to man. I say wear them in the middle of a snowstorm for all I care. Just don't wear them to your own wedding if you have been living with a man first. The nerve of some people. ;)

...no Superman boy panties.

Actually, yes please, but boy shorts, not boy panties.

OT, but I clicked on your Frank link to your Facebook page. Is that your baby you're holding?

No, not mine. One of my friends just had her in December and the picture came out good so I made it my profile pic for a while.

I'd gladly claim her at tax time but I think the IRS frowns upon such things.

As long as it isn't white linen , you are all good .

That is a new one on me. I have always heard you can't wear white until after Easter and you have to stop after Labor Day.

I ignore all these rules anyway, I think they are silly. :thumbsup2

I thought it was AFTER Labor day.:confused3

Gone are the rules. GO for it!

The rule in my mother's day was no white bottoms or shoes before Memorial Day or after Labor Day so that's why I asked.

Mom was so prim and proper about fashion. She'd be 83 if she were still alive. :)

I would not mock you for wearing white in April or any other month, but just like a PP said the only rule for white pants is making sure you aren't wearing obnoxious underwear that can be seen through them....I would, without a doubt, mock you for that.:goodvibes

I thnk the outfit sounds great for both events and plus, cream/winter white isn't white, so you're safe with the "White Rule".

I think you will be fine. I thought the new rule was there was no rules!
