How close to the event do you feel you have to be to wear a celebration button?

We are going this Saturday, the 11th, through the 18th ... our anniversary is on the 19th ... would you wear the anniversary buttons?

Also, our son's birthday is October 27th ... is that too far away to have him wear a button?

Thanks!!!

you can wear the buttons at any time. If you're celebrating those events during your trip, then go for it!!

wear the buttons. :goodvibes You're on a family vacation celebrating with your family..... enjoy yourselves!!! You can celebrate anything anytime!!! :cool1:

As long as you are within 6 months (plus or minus) of the event, you're fine! :thumbsup2

I would wear the anniversary button on the day before the anniversary and I wouldn't wear the birthday button at all. Of course, I don't really care at all about wearing buttons anyway.

My DP and I went August 10th-18th, her birthday was August 3rd and mine is October 15th, and we wore our birthday pins everyday! We were celebrating both of our birthdays that trip, so why not? It was our birthday everyday, it was nice but a bit weird for me to hear "Happy Birthday," being as though my birthday was two months away, but that's a moot point. We had fun, got free ice cream and "free" fast passes for Toy Story Mania!

If you're celebrating the event, then go for it. Wearing a button doesn't guarantee you any perks, so its not like you're stealing the spotlight from someone whose event is actually that day.

In our family, we only wear the buttons ON the day. My DD wore her birthday button ON her birthday. We wore our anniversary button ON our anniversary. We arranged our trip to be there on those specific days and I would not dream of wearing a birthday button if it was not actually my birthday, no matter how close. From similar discussions, I know I am in the minority.

I would say that most people think that as long as you are "celebrating" having a birthday or anniversary you can wear the button no matter how far away that birthday or anniversary is from the celebration day. Some folks "celebrate" by wearing their buttons every day of their whole vacation! If you want to wear a button, then knock yourself out! You won't be the only one "celebrating" the real event days or even months from the actual date.

We're specifically going on this trip for our 1st anniversary, but we're going 3 weeks early.

I plan on wearing the button...cant speak for DH though ;)

I agree with this.

We're going to have "first visit" buttons on our entire trip. Hopefully it will give others some patience with the newbies! ;)

DBFF and I just got back from our trip to celebrate turning 30. We were there 9/2-9/6 and my birthday is 9/30, hers is 10/17. Every day we would end up chatting with a cast member and would end up being given another birthday button to wear. So I say wear as many buttons as you want, because the cm's like loading people up with them! We didn't get any special "perks" for wearing them, but we did get a lot of people wishing us a happy birthday which was nice. We also got called out into the DHS parade by name because of our buttons, which was cute.

Thanks everyone for your input!

We try to go to WDW the last week each October. That week has two of our three birthdays and our anniversary. We wear the birthday buttons and the anniversary buttons and get the “I’m Celebrating” buttons for any guests traveling with us.
I asked several CMs if we were violating anything if we wear the buttons the whole week. They ALL said much the same thing. "This is your vacation we are here to add Disney magic to your celebrations. Be they this day, this week, this month, or this year, you celebrate and let us know what Disney can do to make it more magical." Also; when I asked, they did make it more magical with extra Disney magic. My DD ended up with a 4 foot tall stuffed Mickey! WOW! :thumbsup2

To Disney itself, it makes no difference when you wear the buttons.

We are going September 19th - 26th and we will be celebrating:
1) Our anniversary - September 14th
2) DD's 9th birthday - October 17th

So go ahead and wear the buttons!:thumbsup2

I wouldn't, but that's just us.

DH's bday is Sept 24th, and we are going Sept 25-Oct 2, and we're not going to get him a button!

We will get the kids a 1st visit one for the first day, but DH and I went before so we will be wearing no buttons.

I feel that if every person had the attitude of wearing a button if something was 2 months before or after the trip, practically every person would have a button and I think that would take away from the people who are actually celebrating their event THAT day.

If we were there when it was actually one of our birthdays or anniversary etc we would wear a button on that day.

But, Disney doesn't care and neither do most of the guests! So do what you want!

Truthfully, do whatever you want.

But personally, as an adult, I have zero interest in buttons of any sort. For my children, I'd use buttons when the event is actually being celebrated, but not necessarily limited to the day of the actual event.
We are going the week of my daughter's birthday -- she will turn 4 on our last day, the day we fly home. Won't even be going to the park that day. But we are celebrating her birthday with a Royal Table dinner, a few days earlier. That's the day she is celebrating her birthday, so I very well might put the button on her.

I jumping onto the miniority ship with Robinb! Let's hope we don't sink. :goodvibes
