My sister is getting anxious about wearing her feeding tube and pump and going thru security at ACY Atlantic City airport. We have an 8AM flight, we will have to be on the road by 5:30AM so she will still be hooked up from her evening feedings. I told her that ACY would probably be a little easier than EWR or PHL. We are flying AirTran.
Do any adults have any experience with wearing their pump and attached feeding bags thru security...

She will not have any problem with security. All she has to do is explain to security that she is attached to the machine. They will hand wand her and if they would like to see the machine they can have a female attendant check her out. They will have to hand wand her since she will set the scanners off. Check to see if she needs a wheelchair as the airports can be very big and long walks.

Tell her not to worry and that everything will be fine. If she is very nervous then have her get a doctor's note explaining that she is on a feeding machine. She will probably never need that note but it will let her feel like she has an additional defense against the scary agents, a psychological defense tool if you want to call the note that.

I have seen on the boards people flying who have other machinery such as diabetes pumps that had no problems.

She also can ask for a private area for the screening if she feels more comfortable. They will also give her a cover sheet if she needs it.

In the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there is a post about air travel that includes links to the Transportation Security website and some pages on their site about travel with medical devices. Those links will add some information to what has already been posted on this thread.
Post 1 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread has an index that tells the subject of each post in that thread so you can find the one I am talking about. There is a link to the disABILITIES FAQs thread in my signature.
