Wearing Crosses or Stars of David

If you are a Christian, would you feel comfortable wearing a Star of David? And if you are Jewish, would you feel comfortable wearing a cross?

This question has come up in a completely different forum, and I was just curious to see how other people feel. Personally, I'm Jewish and I would never wear a cross.

I wear a Star of David..I would not be comfortable wearing a cross.. I don't care if someone else wears a cross though..I also can understand why the occasional Christian might wish to wear a Magen David.

I see a difference between the Star of David and the Cross.

wearing a cross symbolizes that one is a Christian. I would never wear one.

the Star of David, on the other hand, should not be called a "Jewish star", because it's not exclsuively a Jewish symbol. when I wear mine, I intend to convey that I am Jewish, and that I have a link going back to our ancesotr King David. but the symbol is also used in Zoroastrianism.. and some ultra Orthodox reject the symbol, claiming it is associated with magic and witchcraft, not with Judaism.

during the Holocaust, when Jews were forced to wear a yellow Star of David on their clothes, some Christians chose to wear the symbol as a sign of solidarity with the Jews.

I'm Christian and I'd wear a Star of David. I've seen some really beautiful ones but way out of my price range. On the flip side I'd wear a Cross if I thought it was beautiful as well. I don't believe in wearing one just to profess my beliefs.

I personally would be okay wearing a star of David or a cross, but I felt uncomfortable when my kids bought me a crucifix for Christmas one year. Can't really explain why, I just was. For the record, I'm a protestant.

IME some people have problems with a cricifix because it has the actual dying Jesus on it... Some people actually find crucifxes a bit macabre..A cross is a less graphic symbol

I'd be uncomfortable about that one to. I'm Protestant as well and for me that would be over the top.

A Star of David is prominently displayed in the sanctuary of our Methodist Church. On a related post, we performed Bernstein's Mass two years ago and during the weeks of performance we added a Crucifix in our church as well.

I'm Catholic and I wear a crucifix as a daily reminder that Jesus loved me enough to suffer one of the cruelest forms of captial punishment to save my sorry butt. It's meant to be a personal reminder, I don't wear it as an evangelical tool.

I think some people would be surprised how many wear crosses simply so they will fit in and not be looked at as being different.

I have one hanging on the wall of my home, with a beautiful prayer about protecting the home from unrest inscribed on it. I bought it in Israel a few years back.

I own a star of David, but would never wear a cross. It symbolizes Christianity and I am a Jew. It would feel wierd to wear it.

I've worn both!

I was raised Jewish but not religious (we celebrated Xmas after all!). A gold Jewish star was given to me as a child and I wore it. In adulthood I began to study Christianity and I wore a cross years before I "officially" became Christian (by adult baptism). I also have a Buddha pendant in my collection though I was never a Buddhist. I collect many crosses and have a lot of different cross pendants. I don't have any crucifixes simply because I don't find them as appealing as plain crosses.

I sometimes wear a cross because I'm a Christian and it is a symbol of my beliefs. I'm protestant, and if my memory is correct, I believe I've heard that protestants wear only a cross, as opposed to a crucifix, because we believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but focus on the empty cross to remind us that he rose on the third day, thus overcoming death. Catholics believe this as well, but I think the Crucifix is tradition or them. I wouldn't casually wear a star of David or any other symbol related to another religion.
