Why does disagreeing with the outcome translate into sour grapes??

I have liked Clay since his audition and hoped he would win - it was sad!!! The voting bugs me the most - all the calls that could not be counted because we couldn't get through (both Clay and Ruben). There has got to be a better way!

Clay is a person I would not mind my kids "idolizing."

I sincerely believe that if Clay won and Ruben didn't the audience would have been in an uproar and would have been booing Ruben's loss. I am certain of it. Just like the time he was in the bottom two.

Clay's fans were dignified. I also think Clay fans may have seen the writing on the wall. I always felt Clay should win but that Ruben would. Last year, I didn't have a clue who would win but was rooting for Kelly. This year, I just knew.

Also, why is it the judges would easily insult Clay and his performance or look BUT they NEVER insulted Ruben's performance or look. I couldn't stand the way he just stood there, never really talked, and his outfits were terrible. Why is it ok that he is 360lbs but Vannesa needs to loose weight? How is he going to handle a tour when he couldn't handle last night? I've never seen him sweat that badly before!

Like I've said before, for some reason, the judges made their decision long ago who they wanted to win and it was obvious by their comments.

For the longest time, Clay's ranking on Amazon was #1 while Ruben's was very low. I'll bet you that when their actual CD's come out, Clay's will do much better. Then we'll know who the real AI is. I'm going to keep an eye on their sales that's for sure.

The voting systems stinks. I said the same thing last year. They NEED to make it more acurate and fair.

*sigh* Both young men are very talented and will have very successful careers. Congratulations to all you Ruben fans. However, I am forever a Clay fan and must confess that I'm sad that Clay isn't the American Idol. I think both men are talented, but Clay captured my heart from his very first audition. There's really no point in all of us arguing over who is the better singer. It's SUBJECTIVE. We should all be happy that we'll be able to buy either/both their CD's soon enough!

I can honestly say that I have wondered about Ruben and his size and being able to make it through a tour long before the final voting even took place.

Wonder if this works like a beauty pageant? If the winner is unable to fulfill their obligations and commitments, does No. 2 step in?

I agree with jrmasm, I am not hearing sour grapes here. Just because you don't jump on the bandwagon of the winner, does not mean sour grapes. I wish Ruben a long, successful career. I just wish a little more for Clay.

Where were all you achin for Aiken fans Tuesday night?? He probably would have won if you were dialing frantically instead of swooning. You could have done that AFTER he won!!

Hey OT -

We were dialing frantically. We just couldn't get through. I dialed feverishly for the full 3 hours and only got 4 votes in. I got 33 messages that said "We're sorry but your call can't be completed".

With the amount I was hitting redial, I must have tried thousands of times and only got 4 votes in.

So believe me, it wasn't from lack of effort!!!!!!!!

I dialed non-stop for 2 1/2 hours and only got through twice. My DH finally convinced my BIL to text message 10 votes for us. I think that is another reasons why folks feel frustrated because they did not get their votes counted. I know I do and I emailed Fox.com this morning to complain about the voting system.

I have AT&T and used text messaging. I did not count how many times I voted, but I voted continuously through the entire hour of "24" and then beyond. I did vote, and so did hubby. I would estimate my total was over 200 times. My next phone bill is going to be horrendous, but I am not sorry I did it.

I am disappointed too but a good guy won and I wish them both all the best. I'll be in line to buy Clay's CD and not Ruben's but only because Clay's style is more in line with my own taste. And who cares what either of them look like? As for size, Barry White, who someone compared Ruben to, wasn't exactly svelte.

What exactly is so bad about being a Broadway type singer anyway? It didn't exactly hurt Michael Crawford.

I think it's great that they both got recording contracts, and that their CD's will be out by the end of this summer. Kelly's CD is doing extremely well, but I feel that Justin is going to be harmed by the very long delay in releasing his album.

Both Clay and Ruben are fabulous singers, they each have their own appeal. They competed as gentlemen, and I hope that they both have long careers doing what they love best, performing.

I just want to know if they're going to film a Clay and Ruben Beach movie like "From Justin to Kelly"???

I vote against the movie. I cannot imagine Ruben in a thong and I am betting Clay doesn't have a six-pack.

Back to Justin, did I hear correctly that they did not let him release anything until the year was up? Is that correct or did someone misinform me.

I agree that I think Justin will be hurt the most by all of this. I have thought that the top 3 from this year were all bettter than any of last season's contestants.

I think Ruben is fantastic. I'd buy his cd in a heartbeat. He's got soul! That appeals to me more than the "glory notes" and over-the-top ballads that Clay is good at. I think Clay has a gorgeous voice, but I, too, think he's better suited to Broadway or Vegas than the pop arena. I would've been perfectly happy, though, if Clay had won, even though I've been a Ruben fan from the beginning. I can't believe all the comments about his weight and his sweating. It sounds pretty much like sour grapes to me.

DVCREG, Do you know for sure that Clay & Ruben will both have albums out by the end of the summer? That would be awesome... I hope it's true!!

What exactly was the very long delay in releasing Kelly's CD? It seems like it took a year! (or was it a year.... a long time regardless)

Yep - Justin will get hurt from all this - but it won't be because they waited so long to release his album, but because Clay and Ruben have more talent in their fingernail then Justin has in his entire body...and since Clay and Ruben will be releasing singles right before Justin's album comes out....well...Justin will soon be going the way of the New Kid's on the Block...

Ruben was on Fox News this morning saying that he and Clay doing a movie would be like Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin - I had to crack up - a comedy with them would be a SCREAM.

I also have to laugh at the Broadway comments about Clay - while it's true that he would do well on Broadway, why in the world should he limit himself to that?? To pigeonhole him that way off the bat is unfair - the public was split about the American Idol because just as many find Clay appealing as Ruben. Let the album sales speak loudest.

I think the biggest reason we're hearing the "broadway" comment is the distinction between Ruben and Clay. Ruben is a singer. Clay is an ENTERTAINER. Big difference.

I love 'em both - matter of fact, love Kimberley, too. All 3 CDs will be in my shopping cart when they're released.

As far as Justin is concerned - he's charming, but most of this group was FAR superior - he'd have been voted out before Rickey, IMHO.

Aha, just as I thought. Most of you tried to vote, but couldn't get through. So really, not to take anything away from Ruben, but for all intents and purposes, it was a tie as far as we know. The numbers don't mean anything in terms of who was the more popular singer, who is more versatile or even who had the most fans. All it means is that Ruben's fans were more persistent in their calling, that the areas where Ruben's fans were had higher phone switch capacity. Both numbers were solid busy for the entire three hours. The only way the voting can truly reflect who "won" is if you are limited to only one call per household, one text message per cel phone.

Sale of the CD's will be a better indicator.
