I am not a CM but I was given an official name tag by a CM... It's the current design. If I wore it on my lanyard in the parks, do you think I'd get in any type of trouble for it? Or get it taken away?

See Link:

I would think Disney would have a problem with you wearing something that would make people think you were an employee when you're not. I can't see how they would possibly be ok with this.

That's what I was thinking, but I did a little research and saw that a former CM would wear his tag on his lanyard and no one had an issue...

My grandmother used to work at Disneyland (Started in Carnation Cafe and moved to BOH management) and she got me a "Light Magic" tag with my name on it and I was always scared to wear it in the park because I was afraid that I would get it taken away. I got the new one a year ago when I asked a CM for theirs and to my surprise they actually gave it to me.

I would think it would be frowned upon, like adults dressing in costumes (beyond Disneybounding), as the general public could mistake you for a true CM and you haven't been "vetted" by the company. It's a neat souvenir, but one I would leave at home.

I’ve seen one other gentleman wearing a name tag on a lanyard multiple times. I’m guessing he used to be a CM? He’s definitely off duty because he’s been in line with us for characters and attractions. No one pays any attention. As long as you aren’t pretending you work there, I doubt anyone will say anything.

They briefly sold CM name tags! A friend of mine bought one and still has it in her front entryway! It’s one of those things that feels like it was like five years ago but maybe it was really 12 or something; I’m getting old. I thought it was strange at the time and was glad they stopped before I had a kid since we always told her to find a CM with a name tag if she got lost...

Anyway, I think if it’s on a lanyard, that’s fine. Just be prepared in case a lost child approaches you!

I'm an ex-CM and would never think of wearing my name tags (I have several, not just my name but the extras from when I would forget mine at home). I just figure it was part of my costume, therefore Disney property. They did not ask for them back when I turned in my costume on my last day, but it would still be weird to wear it.
I do have a fake one I got on Etsy that is from the Haunted Mansion that says my name is Foolish Mortal - that one I have worn ;)

PS - is that the current design? It looks like an older version from WDW. I think I might have one of those :confused3

it’s the design they were wearing last November at DLR. I don’t recall if it’s changed since then.
I might try to wear it and see what happens, I remember now I wore my Light Magic tag once and was asked by a security guard about it, but he didn’t care much, just curious.

I still don't really understand the point of wearing it either, especially when it belonged to someone else. But if you still want to keep it as a novelty or souvenir and want to display it, I think attaching it to a backpack or jacket, something like that, would be a better idea. Sort of the way you would a pin or patch.

Like I said in my original post, I would wear it on my lanyard, much like a pin...

I always tell my kid to find a Mommy if he’s lost. That Mommy had better not hand him to a stranger wearing an inaccurate name tag!
