I had a car accident yesterday. I was rear ended as I was stopping behind other cars at a red light. It was bad...the force of it made me hit the car in front of me, and so on down the line...about five cars were involved.

My car is totalled...I have a strained neck and a fractured sternum. However, I am so thankful that I am okay. It could have been so much worse. I really believe my seat belt made all the difference. Now I am just uncomfortable, as opposed to being in critical condition or worse.

Wear your seatbelts, everyone!

Sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear that you are OK.

I am firm believer in seat belts save lives. I am walking proof on that one.

Get better soon

Glad your ok...

I'm glad you are ok! Hope you feel better soon, and get a snazzy new car!! ;)

Sorry about the accident, but gald you're okay. Thanks for the reminder about seat belts, I'm the seat belt police in our home.

Glad that you're alive and (relatively) minor injuries. DH & I have been alive for over 20 years now due to seat belts. Picture semi meets VW Rabbit on freeway - not pretty. State Patrol (and the semi driver) were stunned that, not only were we alive, but DH was completely uninjured and I only had glass in 1 hand. Car was totaled.

We ALWAYS wear seatbelts.

This is my 17th year working for the country's #1 Auto Insurance Company;)

I've seen way too many awful photos from auto accidents.

Yes, wear your sealbelts. Hope you are feeling better real soon!

:wizard: Pixie dust being sent your way for a speedy recovery. Seat belts=saves lives.

A coworker's best friend just lost all 3 of her children in a car accident. The oldest was driving, and he fell asleep at the wheel. None of them wore seatbelts.:(

Glad your ok. Hope your not in too much pain and feel better soon.

I'm glad you're ok but big bummer about totalling your car.

Do your knees hurt? The one big accident I was in years ago made my knees hurt the next day. I realized after the fact that the dashboard had squooshed up to my knees, banging them hard!

Yay for seatbelts. They DO save lives and health sometimes don't they?

I'm soooo glad you are okay!! Whew!

I am also an avid seat belt wearer. Both DH and I have lost family members who may have been saved, if they only had their seat belts on. It's now the law here, so there really is no choice, but I know quite a few people who still don't care to wear it, and usually don't.

Take care of yourself! Good luck in the car hunt.

Glad you are safe and ok. Did your airbags go off? I know they need to set off at about a 7-10 mph impact. Not sure if the force of your crash would do that. Anyways, I am glad you are ok!!

Thanks for all the pixie dusr and kind thoughts.

I'm feeling relatively okay. Thank God for DH, he has been handling all the insurance stuff. I have been taking Percatin, so whatever pain there is is quite dulled. Really, my neck hurts the worst (strained muscles and ligaments, they said), but my chest is uncomfortable if I lie on my side. One of my knees got skinned somehow, but it's not a big deal.

No, my airbag did not deploy, which I thought was strange. My back windshield was shattered and the trunk was completely smushed, but no airbag.

Let me tell you, it was a scary scary thing. After the initial impact, after the shock, I was mentally checking things...could I move, was I cut, etc. I was bleeding from my nose at that point, so I had blood all over me. The whole experience almost makes me want to move to some very rural community where everyone walks.

Thanks again for all your kind words and support. I will keep you posted. :goodvibes

When I was in my early twenties I met a Highway Patrol-man that had given a lecture about safty belts...and he described some of the worst accidents that he had to work, and what happens to someone inside the car. If not wearing a saftey belt they don't stay in the car...The worst part of his job was when he had to notify the families that there had been a fatality.

When he said, "In all the years I have worked traffic accidents, I have never had to unbuckle a fatality from a seat belt." That did it for me.

A few days later I was in the car with my Mother and I fastened my seat belt I remember her looking over at me and asking,"Don't you trust my driving?" I told her I did ::yes:: but not everyone else...and somebody would have to be around to tell the officer what the other guy did. She buckled her belt that day, then we made everyone else that rode with either one of us buckle-up also, I would say "It's the law, in my car." Many years later it in fact became a law.

So sorry to hear about the accident. Hope you feel better real soon.

Glad you are okay, and I totally agree with you... WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS! I was rearended about a year ago, and though my car only needed a new rear bumper, I was amazed at the amount of force the car hit me while I was sitting at a light!
