We were upgraded at AKL!

Was the standard room really okay? We loved the AKL and want to go back there, but would probably go with a standard room. The deals this summer were great, but I am not sure that they will always be there in the future. Which trail were you on too?

We really liked our standard room(until the bugs of course). We were on the Ostrich trail and my only complaint besides the bugs would have been that it was rather dark inside, but that was because we had alot of bushes blocking the sun, and unfortunately, we were told the bushes also attracted the bugs. I think for the price, epecially with a discount code, the standard rooms are great. There are just so many opportunities to view the animals without having a savannah view room. Every morning our first stop was the Arusha Rock and while at the pool we would wander around the areas there as well.We saw animals every day and even though it would have been nice to just look out our balcony, it really wasn't a big deal.

Bluefairy,
Thank you for the compliment. I didn't see the point in berating a CM, I was more than willing for pest control to spray, and if I hadn't seen any more that would have been fine. I wasn't expecting an upgrade, but we did appreciate it!:D

Thanks for your reply. My DD and I weren't in the room that much anyway! I just love this resort and really want to go back.

Does anyone know if you can get bunk beds in a standard room? These were great for us on this last trip. We all slept so much better :)

We had bunk beds in both our standard & pool view rooms. :D

...your post made me think of something. I had always heard about the HUGE water bugs famous in Florida, but as yet had not seen one. I noticed, while staying at DxL (POR Riverside) early in the AM's, the groundskeepers would spray all the heavier foliage, as well as along the outside corridors where the outside hotel room walls met the floors. Ever since then, I always search for those "bug doctors", just to give me a little peace of mind regarding the "creepy-crawlies"!!

Does anyone know if you are likely to have a better chance of NOT seeing one in your room if you are higher up? I am staying at AKL in December and don't feel like having to order a "straight jacket" for my daughter if she sees a palmetto!

We were on the 5th floor.:(

All I can say is YUCK! I am glad they changed your room and upgraded you!

is a fancy name for a flying roach. All too common in Florida. But I would have freaked as well. Glad they gave you a "bug free" room!!:(

I've read so many posts about bugs in rooms...
Recently these same bugs at CSR...
And FIRE ANTS at BCV... (Several peopel ahve had problems wth this!)
I know it is Florida, but fire ants crawling in my bed woudl probaly freak me out! :o

Thanks for the info on the bunks in the standard rooms too.

I am so glad we didn't see these critters on our recent visit in our room. We had a really horrible experience with these when we visited FL in 1981. The place hadn't been sprayed regularly (the condo crew missed our unit I guess). When we'd turn on the lights in the morning we could see them run across the walls.

We did see one at the bus stop at AKL and also a snake. This poor woman coming back one night from the bus stop had a frog jump in front of her and I thought she was going to drop on the spot.

Eeyorelover22,

You are very welcome!:D We saw lots of little lizards outside, my dd really liked them! If I had seen a snake- well, I think anyone outside would have known about it! My DH can't stand snakes either so he wouldn't have offered much support- LOL!

Thanks to everyone for all your nice posts, I was very happy with our new room and we had a great time!:D

Don't you just want to go back??? The minute we left, I was thinking about when we will return :)

I absolutely know what you mean! I'm already starting to "plan" for our next trip even though I don't know when we are going!:D
