We were ignored at Ohana :(

On the new DDP plus side - you had complete control over what tip if any that waitress earned

Sorry about your experience...

At that point it wouldn't be a matter of a tip, but paying the bill! You only pay for what you receive, if you had half of a meal provided to you you only pay half.

Seems like a lot of complaints on the message board, but not enough complaints where it matters. :confused3 If the majority doesn't mention their problem to the management - how do you expect them to know anything is wrong? :headache:

Several posters here said that they did contact management. In our case, I wrote an email to Disney when we came back home and received the usual you're-a-valued-costumer-sorry-but-****-happens answer.

They are well aware that there is a problem, but since the restaurant is full every night they don't care.

Right. But, as I said - it's a trend on this message board in general where someone will create a thread, write a ranty, detailed complaint of their experience - and then when asked if they mentioned it to the management, 9 times out of the 10 the answer is no. Whether it's "my kids were acting up" or "I'm too shy to say anything" or "I just won't go back anymore" it's all a bunch of excuses. People need to be part of the solution rather than the problem and be proactive. Complaining to the management doesn't mean you have to be belligerent about it - or demand to be comped for your meal. I always believe that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar anyway. :goodvibes Management will take your complaint far more seriously if you approach them in a composed manner.

Just my two cents. We very much enjoyed our experience at 'Ohana and it's a beloved restaurant for many of us like most Disney restaurants.

"They are well aware that there is a problem, but since the restaurant is full every night they don't care."

Now that is a sad state of affairs and probably true.. hopefully they are listening to their management and reading these boards and maybe realizing that a reputation for bad service and not so good food will eventually result in even more issues and less people coming to this restaurant... it may take a while, but it will happen.. One can hope, right?

We were there about a year ago. The server was horrible! She was more interested in taking a part in the show they put on that she forgot she was the waitress. We saw very little of her. We had to ask another server to ask our server to bring us refills. She acted like she was put out. When I left I told the manager what an awful experience we had. I expected better. I'm not sure if I will try there again.

This is the one meal we didn't do when we went for Free Dining 06 and I have really wanted to do it. We really, really want to do the dinner. But the bad reviews have really made me think I should just forget about it--I would be paying for it, not going with Free Dining again.

But on the other hand, I am a VERY Assertive person. Not agressive, not nasty, but I am not shy and I have absolutely no problems with nicely and firmly telling a server to take the dessert back because we are not done with our meal, or asking for more food and making sure that I see a manager if necessary. And I have certainly been known to get up and FIND a server that will help me if mine won't--and tip the one that helps me accordingly

Still debating this one. . .

Hya

Can't remember having a bad meal there, although the servers do seem really rushed sometimes.

By the way, ya gotta love the female (????? drag queen ????) entertainer. She had us in stiches with lines like....

"Everyone's a winnnnnner and no one's that word we don't say at Disney World!"

and

Enertainer : "How old are you?"
Little Girl : "six"
Entertainer : "Reeeeaaaally...that's my favourite age"

She sound just like Barney (purple dinosaur thing)

We have had 'Ohana on our must do list every trip since 2002. We are dropping it this year because our last 2 visits our meals were terribly rushed. As in they brought dessert before we even had all the meats. They didn't even ask if we were ready-at least you got asked!

Oh, and YES we are DDE so we were forced to pay the 18%.

I was going to ask you if you perhaps "lost track of her tip". I just hate mandatory tips. I know people will say ask to speak to the manager, if the service doesn't warrant the tip, but I'm guessing you're like me. I'm also very shy and doubt there'd ever be a time that I would discusss a reduction of a mandatory tip with a manager.

I've been to 'Ohana 5 times and no one has voluntarily offered kids' meals or seconds of the side dishes. I just don't think that is SOP, it is up to you, the customer, to request those things. The rest of the service has been hit or miss.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy your meal. We're taking a break from 'Ohana this trip because the food has been declining - side veggies drowning in grease, the usually lovely potatoes were off-tasting and the meats were so dry they were inedible.

In the ten years I have been on the boards I have seen reviews of Ohana go from Great food! must do !Great service ! To marginal and spotty reviews. Since the major menu change it seems they have gone downhill in far as consistancy. I know initially the poor service was do to getting use to serving the new menu, before it was brought on a LazySusann. That has been what 2 yrs ago now?

We LOVED O'hana and, at the time, I thought the service was good. But, reading this makes me realize that maybe it wasn't so good... we were with our two young children and we were never offered different food for them. I wish I had known we could order chicken nuggets or mac and cheese, because DS complained about the food and there wasn't much he would eat. I'll keep that in mind for next time. Thanks!!!

I am not sure I am in the right spot but, all these comments are making me nervous. We are planning to go to the Spirit of Aloha dinner is this the same thing?? we are paying top $$ I understand that when a show is included that not everything may be great but the total lack of service that has been discussed makes me want to cancel our plans. Can someone give me thoughts on this meal is it the same?different? Help
Thanks
Kathleen

Pretty sure they are different. One is a dinner show and the other is a resturant. Try searching for the dinner show and hopefully some reviews will pop up. We did the Luau dinner show for our honeymoon back in '99 and it was lots of fun and the food was good. HTH!!

We went there on our honeymoon 5 years ago. Notice that I said went not ate. We sat there at our table for around 20-25 minutes without any drinks or anything and WEARING OUR WEDDING EARS. not like we are noticeable or anything. We were finally so angry that we got so mad that we left. Their were tons of empty tables around us. And we did say something to management- they weren't too sorry:scared1: . We've never been back.

We were there on the 19th for breakfast and had a horrible experience. (see my Ohana=ohorrible post).

We provided immediate feedback to the manager after our bill was screwed up and she had to fix it. Her response-- "Well, we ARE busy". No apology. I didn't expect compensation, but an apology would be nice. But this is just an example of the diminishing guest service we seen our last 3 trips to WDW.

We were planning on trying O'Hana's for the first time this trip, but I think we will wait to see if it improves. We'll try a place with a better reputation for now. Thank you for the reviews.

We have been to 'Ohana several times over the past few years - 4 times for dinner and once for breakfast. Service has ranged from average to mediocre, never have we had anything better. This is our first trip in a while where we are skipping 'Ohana. I enjoy the atmosphere, but it just seems too darn hard to get good attention from your server, and they never seem to pace the food just right, probably because you have multiple people bringing it to you. Nobody knows when you last got food.

I think that there is definitely an increasing trend of negative reviews on this board regarding this restaurant. It makes me sad, but I guess it frees up an evening to try something else.

Oh - and I agree with a previous poster, that this restaurant pretty much has a set menu. If you ASK for something else for your kids, they will accommodate by getting it from Kona, but it is not really part of the 'Ohana menu. If you don't know to ask, I don't think they're obligated to offer to go somewhere else for you.

They are definitely different things - just to confirm.
And I have heard nothing but good things about Spirit.

We ate at 'Ohana two nights ago. While the food was good and plenty was brought to our table, I definitely felt rushed. When I tried to ask a question, the server who was bringing out the sauces and whatnot was answering me as he walked off. I wasn't even sure what his answer was. Our server brought the check at the same time as she brought the dessert. She laid the check across the table from me and said "Theres no hurry - I'll just leave this here". I literally had taken about three bites of dessert and she was back, picked up the check, looked in it and said "Oh, you haven't taken care of this yet" and then she brought it around and laid it right up against my dessert plate. She then took a couple of steps and stood there waiting. I stopped eating and dug out my wallet, put a $100 bill in it to pay (expecting back quite a bit of change). She rushed back over, grabbed the check and waved goodbye to me. We actually laughed about that part. If she thought I was going to leave without my change - not going to happen. By the way, we were using the DDE card. Will I go back? Absolutely - but I definitely learn to be more outspoken.

WOW both times we have had dinner here we had good service and food. I would say the last time our server seemed to have to many tables but it didnt equal up to a complaint about bad service. I didnt feel rushed or anyting of that sort either. Matter of fact 6 of the 10 people were eating here for the first time and said it was their favorite of the trip. Go figure.
