We Went to See Mic-key M-o-u-s-e ... Again! - Sept '12 TR [COMPLETE]

"The Lists" hahaha...I haven't started on mine and I leave NEXT Friday! I would bet a lot that Universal will never replace WDW in your heart. Nothing is like Disney.

You know, we went to Universal years and years ago (waaaay back before IOA was even in existence). Honestly, I wasn't all that impressed. :confused3 Maybe now that IOA is there, it's great ... but it would have to be a whole heck of a lot better than last time to even come close to WDW for me.

My lists keep changing every time I turn around. Just when I think I have everything set and perfect I decide on something else to change. LOL!!

Can't wait to see the posters!!

My lists are growing, growing, growing. :scared: DH keeps peeking at the "To-Buy" one. What can I say, we need lots of stuff for Disney! Yes, we really DO need a new antenna ball for the rental car! How else are we going to find an unfamiliar car in a sea of them? :confused3

Wow, your trip is approaching real fast! Sorry I've in MIA for awhile, just got caught up on your PTR... Everything looks great. Love your packing list and I'm thinking I need to buy that grumpy shirt for my husband as well. ;)

No worries. Sounds like you've had a lot on your plate lately.

Got the Grumpy t-shirts at Wal-Mart in the young men's department. :teeth:

Your packing list looks teeny tiny compared to mine!!!! When I print mine out from Word, it's 3 pages with 2 columns on each page! I can't even imagine what it will look like when I add my DS's stuff to the list!! :scared1:

I love decorating my window while at Disney. I haven't really thought about it for this trip though. We've stayed at Pop the last two trips and it's fun to look up from the pool and see our awesome window. :thumbsup2 This time we'll be at POFQ and I requested a high floor again (keeps the noise out and I don't like people above us) and I don't know if it will be worth it to decorate.

3 pages? I've seen the clothes posts in your PTR - I would want to take all that cute stuff with me, too! :thumbsup2 So hoping to spot you at the parks or the pool while we're there!

Definitely decorate your windows. We requested top floor also. I figure even if only the people on my own floor see them, I'm still spreading the magic! pixiedust:

------------------------

Thanks for continuing to follow along, ya'll! :wave2:

The posters are not going well. I'm trying to cut out letters in Waltograph print for one of them with an Xacto knife. Ummm, yeah, they look horrible! :crazy2: May have to just settle and go with it though because I've burned through a tree's worth of paper printing-reprinting-printing-reprinting. :sad2: Hopefully it will be worth it once I'm finished (if I'm ever finished).

We have a new snag with our touring plans, too. With the new medication I'm on, I'm supposed to be limiting my heat/sun exposure (yeah right!) ... so that means touring early, resting mid-day, and then touring late. We pretty much did that last year as well, but weren't fanatical about the mid-day break. Sometimes it consisted of spending an hour eating then wandering around the stores. :teeth: This year, however, it's going to have to mean really, truly leaving the parks and coming back later. :sad1: I have to try and avoid that mid-day sun and have a real rest to get cooled down.

Soooo ... taking that into consideration (along with a good description of the tour from a fellow DISer), we've decided to call and change our KTTK tour time to 8:30 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m. We're hoping by arriving earlier, we'll be finished earlier ... thus giving us time to go back to the hotel and rest and still have time to tour MK in the evening. :thumbsup2 Hopefully. That's the plan anyway. We'll see how it actually works out. :crazy2:

Also, DH was looking over my newly-printed itinerary card for our DHS day and goes, "I'm not interested in the Indiana Jones stunt show - saw it last year, so boring. I thought 50's Prime Time was the place they messed with you? Didn't we decide we didn't want to eat there?" :scared: I swear, we need a smiley that is pulling its hair out. :confused3

We can skip the stunt show, but we're keeping 50's. It's a compromise, no? :teeth:

BREATHE! :headache:

Worked on one of our list items last night. We finally came to the conclusion that it just isn't right to ask someone to take us to the airport this year. With having to be there at 7 a.m., that means leaving our house no later than 6 a.m., and we can't put someone else out like that. So we were pricing out our options on how to get to the airport. We were SHOCKED to see what the airport shuttle service charges for pick-up/drop-off service for our area. You prepared for this? Be sure you're hanging on to something ...

$70 round trip ... PER PERSON ... gratuity NOT included

:scared1:  :scared: :crazy2: :faint:

$140 plus gratuity. Ummmmm ... NO. :rolleyes2 Considering we can DRIVE OURSELVES and park in the value lot with an AAA discount for a mere $56 ... :car: They'll pick us up right at our car, too. Oh well, one more thing I can check off the to-do list, right. :teeth:

44 days until vacation, 46 days until WDW! :sunny:

Forgot to mention ... started breaking these in today: :teeth:

004752d1.jpg

Hopefully they'll be as comfy as the LL Bean ones I took last year. I bought so many "trip shoes" there's no way I can possibly take them all!

Oh, Reef sandals! Are they any good?? I may pick up a new pair before my vaca as my Tevas are old and they actually make my arches hurt. You recommend these?

*hugs* I hate it when medications take time out of the park time.

I'm trying to think if there's a way that you can tour in the middle of the day and still stay out of the sun.

I was thinking that maybe at Epcot it might be easier. Because you have all the shops at World Showcase. then you have Innoventions. Not to mention all the different pavilions. I think that Epcot is a much friendlier park when it comes to staying out of the sun.

Probably the least friendly park is either the MK or MGM, sorry I won't ever think of it as anything else. LOL!!

I love how my DH decides to give input when I'm trying to do things. LOL! I've been asking him for help for months and nothing. LOL! So, I can feel your pain. Men....

Love to flip flops!!

So far they are giving every indication that they will be very, very comfy. After one day, they're already molding to my feet. If you want a pair though, get them now and start breaking them in PRONTO since you only have 7 days to go!!

Awww, thanks for trying to help me figure things out with the touring. It really is a bummer to have to leave the park midday, but I knew the day was gonna come eventually. We just have to plan and tour smart so we can do everything we want to do with less time.

Speaking of DH ... I'm gonna do an entire post on what happened this morning, so keep reading ... :teeth:

Something strange happened this morning ........ :upsidedow

First, you have to understand my DH. He likes to hear about the plans, but he doesn't really want to be involved in making the plans. It's like that with every trip with him, not just WDW. I figure out somewhere we'd like to go, I mention it, he thinks about it, agrees :teeth: , then I start the planning. Along the way, I mention stuff to him, mostly about how/when/what we're going to eat. The rest, he pretty much leaves up to me. He's very easygoing that way. :thumbsup2

Until this morning.

We were both sitting here talking for a minute before he left for work. I look at him and say, "Our vacation is next month. NEXT MONTH! Do you realize 6 weeks from today, right now, we'll be sitting at the airport?!?" :hyper:

All of a sudden, DH flies out of his chair and says, "Where's the Disney binder?" I point across the room. He grabs it up and starts frantically flipping through the pages. "WTH are you looking for?" I asked him. "That card I was looking at the other day with the DHS schedule ... do you have those for every day? Where are they? I need to see them."

I dig out the index cards and he spends the next 15 minutes intensely studying them and grilling me about where we'll be every single day, what our open times of day are, etc. :teacher: After a couple minutes more, he looks up from the cards and says, "Okay."

:confused3

I asked him why the sudden interest in our plans, and he of course lies and says, "Oh, no reason. It's just getting close and I was wondering what we were doing, that's all."

YEAH, RIGHT! My DH may be good at a lot of things, but surprises aren't his forte. I know he's got something up his sleeve, I just can't figure out what it could be. :p

I know for sure it isn't La Nouba. That was my surprise last year and besides, they're not performing while we're there. I know it isn't Blue Man Group because we both decided those tickets were way overpriced. We've discussed doing a fireworks cruise for our 15th anniversary trip, and I know he wants to save that until then. :)

Hmmmm ... :scratchin the only possible things I can think of are the carriage ride at FQ or maybe the Disney Florist will be making a deposit in our hotel room. Of course, last year I had no idea about La Nouba because he discussed and conspired about that with our TA ... so perhaps he has a few more tricks up his sleeve that I'm not aware of.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see! :yay:

43 days until vacation, 45 days until WDW! :love2:

I personally love taking midday breaks. It just refreshes me (especially because I love my naps) and gets me ready for evening park touring. I am not a fan of heat to begin with (my DH loves the heat), so napping in the a/c puts a smile on my face.

I'll have to go back through your plans and compare them to mine. I really need to get my act together! Usually by this time I can recite where I'll be each and every day and I'm far from that right now. It might have something to do with a 14 month old who is now in my life. :goodvibes

I'm following you over from my report! I love your detailed plans!!

I may have to borrow some of your packing list too. I have barely anything on mine at the moment. I feel like such a slacker!

Your LGMH is soooo cooool. and that bag, what a bargain!

I think it's great that you go with your DH so much! I want to get DH to go with just me on a trip in the near future. We went together about 20 yrs ago before we got married, but we were very uninformed (and poor) so we missed a lot then. Now we go with the kids and in laws and it just changes a trip (not necessarily bad, just different:thumbsup2)

I wonder what your DH has planned. Hmmmm.... I love it when my husband gets all sneaky. LOL!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Grrr DBF is the same way! He doesn't want to have anything to do with planning this trip, I've done everythinggg! And when I mention our plans or he sees the spreadsheet up, he flips out saying we don't need plans or that we can just wing it!! We did pretty much everything in 2010 when we "winged it" but looking back, we did miss a lot. Now that I know about DIS more and everything I really wanted to plan and everything so he can GET over it!!! I second needing that hair pulling out emoticon!!

I started out on the first page, but I ended up reading most of the thread from the last page, not sure how that happened...:scratchin

DH and I will be celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary this coming October.

Congrats on your upcoming anniversary. :goodvibes

I'm loving all your lists. I hope you are better about them than I am. I'm great at writing the things, not so good at consulting them before I leave. Plus my brain sometimes thinks I did it, when in reality I just put it on the list. Somehow we always get there with pretty much everything anyhow. Most of the time. :scared:

There are some who say, "You can sleep when you're dead! This is DISNEY! You spent lots of money to be here!"

You spend lots of money to be there, so take good care of yourself and you'll actually enjoy it and won't kick yourself afterwards for running yourself so tired you're a grouch, that's my philosophy. ;)

DH also had to buy the "Man Cave" sign for the doorway to our basement (it was 50% off). :rolleyes1

I have noticed this about Hobby Lobby. You go in with a nice, short list, and somehow you come out with a big cart of "stuff that was on sale." In my world, your hubby showed incredible restraint!

I am envying you the KTTK tour. I actually don't want to take it yet, not until I've done some other stuff first, but it's definitely on my dream list!

I swear, we need a smiley that is pulling its hair out. :confused3

:thumbsup2

I have been saying that since I got here! Or a headbanging one, at least. Have the people in charge of smilies never planned? Have they never dealt with people disrupting the plans? What's the deal?

3. The Wishes fireworks viewing area. I mentioned this in above posts. We'll be taking advantage of this special perk for the first time this year. Not having to fight the masses to get a good spot for the fireworks is a huge plus in our book.

I'm suddenly thinking we need to reup with AAA. :rotfl: And how did I manage to miss the earlier mention? I was (at one point) specifically reading backwards looking for it.

We must have had our blinders on when we put it away last year because we clearly cannot use our luggage again.

I go through this every time I dig out seasonal clothes. "Why in the world didn't I just throw this away? Were people really wearing this?" The kids have been known to smuggle stuff back that I've tossed, but all too often I just didn't notice how sorry something was getting. :sad2:

[*]Tour Harry P. Leu Gardens. The Harry P. Leu Gardens is a 50 acre botanical garden with hundreds of native plants on display, as well as a veggie garden and a few sculptures.

This has been on my list since the first time we came out, and I haven't gotten there. If we go in January I need to make a real effort, because the camellias should be in bloom. I've heard the rose garden is at its peak in October, if you're into roses. :) We usually go in May, when there's nothing exciting going on. Well, exciting for a garden. ;)

One of my most favorite places to visit when we're in town is the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. At $5/pp admission, this museum is worth it’s weight in gold. I love going to see the display of Louis Comfort Tiffany glass, along with the pottery and other art displays.

:cool1:

We got out to the Morse Museum last time, and I love that place. So nice to see someone else who appreciates it! We got there kind of late in the day and so just did a self-guided tour; I really want to get back and do the movie and a docent-led something, but I don't see that happening this next trip.

My grandparents loved the Winter Park boat tour, twenty years ago or so. ;) No, seriously, I want to do that and all the other Winter Park stuff you listed. Sometime. *sigh*

[*]Take a Walking Tour of Mount Dora. We went here last year with our niece who showed us around. Lots of quaint little shops, galleries, and restaurants, block after walkable block … then you can have lunch. We eventually want to try dinner at Pisces Rising and watch the sunset over Lake Dora. Sounds like a great way to end the day to me. (Located approximately 45 minutes from WDW.)

A British buddy of mine who has owned at the Fountains since before it was bought out by Bluegreen keeps recommending that place. Still trying to figure out why it's worth a 45 minutes drive. :scratchin

I could second pretty much everything on your list, actually. I have absolutely no desire to live one inch closer to Florida -- but, man, there's a lot of stuff I want to do there! :upsidedow

Okay ... I'm hoping I figured this out correctly. The learning curve with the new camera has not been kind, and I have been online for hours trying to get these two photos to upload.

I know how to upload them to the Internet, but have not the remotest clue how to download pics from my camera to the computer first. Now I think on it, you don't pull them from the camera; you pull them from the memory card. All I know is that it involves a cable and a hubby. ;)

And one of the Daisy scrub top that will make up my nurse MNSSHP costume:
ec7de0cc.jpg

I love the purple and the pink and then I am overwhelmed. My brain can't decided if it's supposed to look at the flowers, or at Daisy, and it keeps switching back and forth. ;)

Have you ever seen the show Psych? In particular the horse racing one? This is what Ballet Girl calls a "Henry shirt." As in, "Mom, you can't buy that -- it's a Henry shirt." :rotfl2:

None of which, I hope you realize, means I don't like it!

A really, really CUTE 14 month old! :teeth: You also have your agency trip - I don't know how you're keeping it together, I really don't!

I'm following you over from my report! I love your detailed plans!!

I may have to borrow some of your packing list too. I have barely anything on mine at the moment. I feel like such a slacker!

:welcome:

Feel free to borrow as much as you like from the list. ;)

You definitely should try and get away just with your DH. Last year our niece and her family came with us for a day, and it was so cool getting to see her 2-year old react to everything (first time at MK, seeing the fireworks, etc.). She kept worrying they were dragging us down, but we really enjoyed it. As you said, it wasn't bad ... just different. It changes how you tour, what you ride, where you eat, etc.

I wonder what your DH has planned. Hmmmm.... I love it when my husband gets all sneaky. LOL!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

 He thinks he's being sneaky, but more often than not I'll figure it out beforehand what he's got going on. I nearly always know what I'm getting for Christmas. Ever had to fake looking surprised ... every year? Not as easy as one would think. :sad2:

Last year, however, he did manage to pull off La Nouba without breathing a word of it ... so I'm anxious to see whether or not I know in advance this time around.

Grrr DBF is the same way! He doesn't want to have anything to do with planning this trip, I've done everythinggg! And when I mention our plans or he sees the spreadsheet up, he flips out saying we don't need plans or that we can just wing it!! "Wing it"! :scared: Those plans and a Disney vacation do not go together! I've known people who tried to wing it and they were sorely disappointed in how their trips turned out. It works for some, but not for most. We've always toured as Desperados rather than Commandos, but we still had some sort of sketched out plans, had still decided beforehand what was most important, where we would eat, etc.

I feel your pain! I think most of us here do! :grouphug: :crazy2:

My DH turned over control of vacationing long ago - he prefers it that way (and so do I). :teeth: He knows all hope is lost when it comes to WDW. He'll call in the middle of the day and say, "Are you DISing?" The first time he did that, I nearly choked - it's a verb in our home now! :lmao:

Congrats on your upcoming anniversary. :goodvibes

:welcome: and thank you!

Oh I am a complete listmaker. Sometimes I drive myself nuts with them, but they really do help keep me organized. PLUS, I think when I hit 39 in January that my brain cells decided to all take a flying leap somewhere, so now I sometimes leave notes for myself on where to find my notes. :thumbsup2 :crazy2: I would not function without the lists! :upsidedow

I couldn't possibly do a park the way some of the Commandos do. Even if I'm just hanging in a store for an hour or so, chilling away from the heat and the activity, I would go insane ... and drag DH with me.

You know it's funny. You'd think that a person like me who does lots of crafty stuff (notice I didn't say "well" at the end of that :crazy2: ) would go crazy in Hobby Lobby. But nooooo, it's always DH that I have to pull out of there, kicking and screaming, away from the Christmas ornaments that are 75% off, or the table that "just has one little chip in it!" :rolleyes2 I try to just run in, head straight for the aisle that has what I need, and get the heck outta there!

shalom said:

We've been saying "someday" to this tour for such a long time now... years. My DH had two things he wanted to do at WDW - take the KTTK tour, and do the RPDE. He did the ride-along last year, and this year is the tour. I think he's more excited about that than anything else we're doing. Just keep it in the back of your mind, and one day you'll do it, too. ;)

I think we all need to petition TPTB and get our frustrated smiley! We have plenty of mad, sad, celebratory, and funny ones ...

AAA has been great! We truly get along so, so well with our TA that she's more like a friend. A lot of people here on the DIS don't like using a TA, but I think if you find a good one they can be incredibly useful ... not to mention the perks that come with using one through AAA.

Winter Park is wonderful. My MIL used to live there, so when we would visit, she'd always take us "into town" and we'd stroll around. The Morse Museum is incredible, isn't it? There are so many things to do in Florida that don't involve going to a park, but for most they only have a short period of time so they want to concentrate on WDW. I get that! When we were going ever year, sometimes more than once, we got to see the "real Florida" because of my MIL and BIL who lived there.

I *love* reading your PTR because of all the photos! I'm still trying to figure out this stupid camera. It's making me wish I had bought something else, to tell the truth. There has to be *so* much light, and forget about taking an indoor shot because those are always out of focus. GRRR. Where's that frustrated smiley when you need it? :scared:

Okay, it's funny you should mention (and quote) the picture of the nurse top BECAUSE ... we've decided we're not going as a doctor and a nurse anymore! ROFLMAO! :lmao: I returned the outfit ... I must have forgotten to mention it here! See what I mean about needing notes ... :scared:

We talked and talked and finally we decided that wearing pants, even lightweight scrub pants, will just be too hot. So now we're back to the drawing board on costumes. As in, starting at square one with no idea what we're going to be. :crazy2: Once we figure it out (again), I'll update with a new post.

It had to happen eventually. :sad2: I had to start walking again in preparation for our trip. Last year, we took a pedometer and logged an average of 10 miles per day. :crazy2: I knew I had to be better prepared for this time around.

DH and I were walking faithfully nearly every day in the Spring. ::yes:: We'd go to a local park and walk for an hour or so, sometimes more. But after it got hot ... well, that sort of went the wayside of so many best laid plans.

I am fortunate to have a treadmill here at home, though, so you'd think I would have kept up with it over the Summer, right? NOT! I've been telling myself for weeks that I needed to get moving again. JUST DO IT! Finally, on August 1st at almost exactly 6 weeks out, I decided it was time. Plus with the Olympics being on daily, there's nothing quite like watching women's beach volleyball to make you realize how bad you really need to start working out! :crazy2:

Now, don't get all excited thinking I'm walking 5 miles a day or anything crazy. :scared: I am not in great shape by any means, and with my health problems sometimes just doing what little I do is a struggle. However, I figure a little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing, right? :teeth: That being said, I'm not keeping track of mileage or speed ... just time spent.

I'm going to use this post to track my progress. Wish me luck! :tiptoe:

Best of luck getting prepared and in shape.:goodvibes

:tiptoe:

August
1st - 30 minutes
2nd - 30 minutes
3rd - 30 minutes
4th - 35 minutes

:cheer2::banana: Woo Hoooo! Go you!! Yeah, maybe we need to start playing beach volleyball instead? Cuz somethings workin for those people!! :beach:

I returned the outfit ... I must have forgotten to mention it here!

You probably mentioned it and I missed it.

As in, starting at square one with no idea what we're going to be. :crazy2:

Well, Disney bought our Marvel, so if you want something with a lot of ventilation, you could always go as Conan and Red Sonja:

:rolleyes1

More seriously, how about the Steve Irwin look? The ladies at the zoo (or whatever his thingie was called) wore essentially the same outfit. And the Steve Irwin/Australian zoo keeper look is designed for hot weather. :) Although I'd add in a Crocodile Dundee hat, myself.

Although on second thought I wouldn't like wearing the boots. :scratchin

:faint:

I found wearing a pedometer all day motivating, and keep thinking I need to get a new one, but I never got anywhere near that!

I know the going good and then crash because it's hot thing, though. :sad2: Or I'll get going in the fall and start copping out when the first snow storm hits. We have a nice riverwalk near us and I like doing that when the weather's nice, but when it's hot and muggy...

It's great that you are walking again!! I need to start! We have a treadmill in our garage and I need to start walking on it every day. DH wants to start walking on it also.

So, we are going to do it together.

You ain't kidding! My DH's eyes have been glued to the TV for days.

 Definitely not in good enough shape to wear those outfits! :scared:

We're thinking of just getting some Halloween T's or maybe doing the tie-dye thing. :scratchin It's all just in the talking stages ... again.

DH and I walked outside today (hence the 25 minute time rather than longer) - it was much too hot and muggy this morning to go much further. :crazy2:

It's great that you are walking again!! I need to start! We have a treadmill in our garage and I need to start walking on it every day. DH wants to start walking on it also.

:yay: I've been trying to convince my DH he needs to get on the treadmill for months. He's tall and thin though, so he doesn't need to do it for fitness, just endurance for all the walking we'll be doing. He says the treadmill "feels funny" under his feet though, so I doubt I'll be dragging him on it anytime soon. I did manage to convince him to go to the park this morning, though, but not for very long.

Congrats to you on making the decision to get moving! It's so hard getting started, I know, but once you do it the first day it gets easier ... especially when you think of those 10 mile days at WDW! :scared:
