Last week, my daughter and I went to Puerto Vallarta with my parents and had a great time. That is, until the day we came home. The day we flew home, my 15 year old daughter had a bad stomach ache, was very dizzy, and felt cold and clammy. It was a very miserable flight home to say the least. She has never felt sick on a plane before, but this time had the motion sickness bag in her hand the whole trip. She has been taking pepto-bismol, and it helps a little bit. However, we had been home for three days now, and her symptoms have not gone away. She now also has occasional diarrhea and the stomach pains come and go. The dizziness and clamminess have gone. Has anyone else had a similar experience, and how did you handle it. Is this something that will just run its course, or should I seek medical attention for her? Thanks for your help!

Take her to the dr, they will most likely put her on an antibiotic. Make sure you tell them you were in Mexico. It's pretty easy to pick up a bug in Mexico and they can last a LONG time.

The last time we were in Mexico DH got VERY sick there. Fortunately one of the members of our group was a Physician's Assistant and brought all kinds of antibiotics with her. She got him started on some right away but he was STILL sick for a week.

I agree with golfgal, take her to the doctor.

She could have just picked up a virus, or maybe even a parasite. But you won't know until you seek medical attention!

Definitely take her to the DR and tell them you were in Mexico. Also, make note if you could've drinken any of the water. Did you have ice cubes in your drink? etc.

I hope she feels better, ASAP!

Get her to a doctor. My sis got a parasite last visit, it happens...better safe than sorry...after antibiotics for weeks on end and being sick she recovered. It can happen anywhere.....for me, I think you were all Brave just going to Mexico at all...American was just killed in Puerto Vallarta in a drug fight (as an innocent person!) Very sad situation in Mexico.....

Yes, see a doctor!
Anytime one leaves the country for someplace like Mexico, there is the chance that it could any number of things. You need to know which to see which treatment/drug is needed.

1. Stomach flu, which is a virus, is going around EVERYWHERE right now.
2. Very common to get sick from un-familiar bacteria/bugs in another country.
3. Could be a parasite, like Giardia (sp???) which are more common there. I had a brother-in-law who came back from Mexico with this...
(in the post above, the reason this person did not recover quickly could probably be that antibiotics are not going to be effective with parasites or virus.)

Each one requires a different approach.
See a Dr. :thumbsup2

Typically after 3 days of a stomach problem, a doctor will recommend a visit. There might be something he/she can prescribe that can be of help.

On your own you might take a look at probiotics. That is something that can be purchased at a health food store. There is even a probiotic yogurt advertised on tv, by Jamie Lee Curtis I believe, which can be bought at the store. It possibly could give some relief.

Be glad you came back alive, a lot don't. Hope she gets better. Sounds bacterial to me, but I do not play a doctor on TV so I don't know for sure.

I went to cancun on spring break in college - most of us came home that way. My sister and her friends went once, about half got it, and one had to be hospitalilzed for dehydration. It is pretty common to get sick from Mexico.

Sometimes I think I'm from another planet. Of course you call a Dr., not ask about it on a Disney chat forum.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. Thank you for posting it.

Hope she gets the medical attention she needs, soon, and feels better.

Also hope she didn't bring home some disease and is spreading it to others.

Well she did also take her daughter to Mexico so it does make sense to me.:rotfl:

My goodness, yes, take her to the doctor. She sounds miserable, poor thing.

If anyone is planning a trip to Mexico and has not been vacinated against HepA+B you should!! If your health insurance does not cover it go to your local health department and get it.

I had a friend in college who picked up a horrible parasite while in Mexico, I can't even describe it, it is that gross. "It" had to be removed from his intestinal tract..... blech.

Why bring common sense into the conversation. I'm waiting for the I just cut my arm off with a chainsaw, what should I do now questions to hit the boards.
