We Turned off Cable...It's GREAT!

Just for the record--I never said I agreed with the autism study...I too think its a bit bogus, DH is the one believed it. Basically, the study found a direct correlation between the increased number of autism cases and the availability of cable in rural areas. DH believes it at face value. I question it due to the unstated factor of the increased ability to diagnose autism since medicine is also progressing.

However, its amazing to see how much more she does when she's not watching TV.

We dropped cable eons ago. We get everything we want via satellite instead. :)

We don't watch much TV, but we like to have it for the times that we do watch. I wouldn't even have a TV at all anymore if I had to give up my DVRs. We never channel surf; we just watch what we've recorded. We skip through all commercials.

The kids love Scooby Doo. My wife likes to watch TV while she's on the elliptical machine. I love watching college football. With satellite and a DVR, we can all watch what we want when it is convenient for us. We also have a NetFlix subscription, so we watch the movies that we want to see, not just what happens to be on.

I would definitely get rid of TV if people were just using it for vegging out or indiscriminately watching whatever happened when they were bored. So far, TV seems to be kept in balance with imaginative play with friends, the pool, the swingset, playing games, playing on the computer, and many other forms of entertainment.
