We're back!!!! We survived almost 3000 miles in a mini van with 2 kids! If we can do it, anyone can. Trust me.

My laptop died the day we left so I'm starting this TR on DH's laptop which is as old as the Hollywood Hotel and has fits everynow and then. I'm hoping to have my laptop up and running soon so I can add pics (DH computer is so low on memory I can't upload our pics).

A recap for all those just joing me.

We planned a trip to FL to take our two boys (Matt, 3 and Zach, 1) to see "Hot Dog" (from MM clubhouse song). We are driving :scared1:. We planned to spend 5 days in Orlando and then 2 days in St. Augustine visiting family.

I had to work Friday, so DH loaded the van and had everything ready to go as soon as I got home. I was able to get out about 3 hours early....they were busy, but the girls I worked with said to go have fun so after asking about 100 times if they were sure, I ran as fast as I could. I was on my way to daycare the get the boys.

After picking them up and making the last run through the house, we were off (1:30pm EST). Our plan to to drive straight through. DH drove the first leg. When we stopped at the welcome center in Ohio we switched. I drove until just over the Georgia line. (DH wasn't feeling well...he was really nauseated and I was letting him sleep). The boys did okay, they both fell asleep around 10pm which is much later than normal, but I think they were as excited as we were.

I stopped in GA to get gas and DH took over. I quickly fell asleep. That only last about 1/2 hr. DH is not the best driver when he feels good and has had a full night sleep (that's the nicest way I can put that). He was all over the road. He was swerving so badly it actualy woke me up. After a few choice words (the kids were asleep) I told him to pull over and I would drive. I wasn't happy. It was already 1am and I had slept 30 minutes. So I drove to the FL state line and insisted since he had slept and it was daylight again he take back over. He did. Then he insisted we stop in Gainsville to see the football stadium. What? I took a deep breath and tried to remember this was his vacation too. Check in wasn't until 4pm so we had time to kill. We spent about 45 minutes driving through campus. DH got out and took pictures.

Then we were back on the road. We got a little mixed up getting off the turnpike (we got off 1 exit early), but TomTom faithfully got us going in the right direction. We pulled into the hotel at 1:30pm. 24 hours after we left home. They had our room ready and allowed us to check in early.

What did we do with our first night in town? You'll have to stay tuned!

Great! Good for you, can't wait to read everything.
Since I am a Florida State Seminole, I have to say your DH's pitstop in the pits, oh I mean Gainesville, was a bit disconcerting..... but to each their own I guess.

I hope there aren't TOO many Gator stories in this TR.:)

I've made a marathon 24 hour drive before......not fun!

The hot dog song is evil......once it's in your head you can't make it stop!

DH is a stadium fan. No matter where we go he has to find stadiums and take pictures for his Man's Room (aka sports Den). He blows them up and hangs them on the wall. It was the pits for me b/c I just wanted to get there! I needed a shower and I wanted out of the clothes I had been wearing for over 24 hours.

As much as we had a great time and our boys travel well in the car, we promised each other we would never drive again LOL. It's too hard on us (DH and I). THe kids get to sleep and play and eat and watch TV. We aren't so lucky. By the time we got to GA my tailbone hurt so bad I could barely sit to drive.
