We are going to Disneyland in just a few months, and as we are getting all of our details nailed down, I had been rental car shopping for almost a month now trying to find exactly what we want.... A convertible! We want to drive the Pacific Coast Highway one day to take in the beautiful pacific ocean - so we want a panoramic view! :cool1:

I had never used a 3rd party website to book a hotel or rental car - but I took the leap - and BOY did it pay off!

I couldn't believe it - more than 1/2 off the going rate. Priceline didn't pump up the 'going' rate to make the saving look better - the going rate was exactly what I had found over my month of searching to be the average from national companies.

Prices were $50-$75 lower at local and budget companies - but having read reviews of how nasty those companies and their cars can be - I wanted to stick with a nationally recognized and trusted company.

I just wanted to share my excitement :woohoo: of getting a great deal!

so.....was this for priceline? what kind of deal was it? share please....

It was just through Priceline's name your own price.

I first entered $25.00 a day and it was not accepted - so I entered $30.00 and day and it was accepted!

Standard rental rate for the Mid-Standard size car is around $33.00 a day nationwide - but we are paying $30.00 a day for a convertible! YIPEE!

The national average listed is about $75.00 a day for a convertible.
So over the course of our 8 day trip - we saved 58% on our rental.

We are guaranteed the car class that we booked - I make sure of that before bidding.

Most rental car companies are renting the Chrysler Sebring or the Ford Mustang this year. With the PT Cruiser out of production now, and the Chevy HHR really never caught on as a convertible - so I am REALLY holding out hope for a Ford Mustang.

I can't wait to get our luggage in the trunk, put the top down, and soak up some sun! :cool2:

Our trip is still a few months away - but I'm ready for it now! :goodvibes

csharp, that's exactly what we did last year when we went to Long Beach for a conference. OMG, the drive down PCH was BEAUTIFUL...you will NOT regret renting the convertible to do this.

Enjoy your trip...it will be awesome.

Thanks beansmom - I'm even more excited for the trip now!

I have been to California two times this year, both times I made a couple trips to Disneyland - but I was solo on both trips.

With all the excitement about how beautiful California is - my wife wanted to go! :rotfl:

So that's why we are taking the trip this time - we are spending 8 nights, and we are going to Disneyland and DCA for three days - and seeing other sights the other days. We are going to take the PCH from Huntington Beach up to Ventura - we really want to see the missions and the artists community in Ventura :hippie:- I just hope that the garlic won't be in season in Vetura! HAHA :lmao:

We have to start planning our trip out a little more - we know what we want to do - we just have to figure out how to fit it all in!!!!!

I would continue checking the actual websites if I were you. I had a standard size car rented for our trip last year for $149/week which I was happy with. however I continued to play around with the different sites occasionally and I was able to find a convertible rental on enterprise for $99/week. Needless to say our other rental was canceled.

When we got there, they had both the Sebring and the Mustang available and told us we could pick...we chose the Mustang ;)
