We really missed the Steam Trains in October

When we were at DL in mid October the DLRR was down for refurb.
We really missed it. We always try to get a ride up front in the engine (on the tender), and we were wanting to get a ride in the LillyBelle. We love getting on in the afternoon or in the evening and just toddling around the park for awhile to rest and just cool out.
I think it also added to the crowding in the evenings since 3-4 trains circling the park can pull quite a few folks off the streets.
Also with Casey Jr and Storybook boats being closed it just put more folks onto less rides...and onto the streets.
This was the first time I have ever been to DL when the trains were not running:sad1:. And they are one of my all time favorite attractions, being that they are some of the original from 1955.

We really missed the trains too. DH got tired of rides very quickly and the train would have come in handy as a ride for the ride people and a break for him and me. Plus, you just miss randomly seeing and hearing them as you make your way around the park. So essential to the atmosphere of Disneyland Park!

yep, missed the whistles and the bells....and the "chuff, chuff, chuff":)

We really missed them too and with Casey's down at the same time it was a real bummer. DS4 loves trains and since he is 39.5 inches, he was too small for BMTR so the only train was Heimlich's in DCA. otherwise we had a great trip.

DanT, I can totally feel your pain! When I read that they were down I thought of how different a trip to DLR would be. I love the steam trains and My DD3 loves them even more than me!!!We ride the trains several times each day we are in Dl park. With a toddler that detests the stroller and wants to walk (at a snails pace mind you!) the train was our much needed transportation throughout the parks every single day. Hope that your next trip will include the fab trains! As an aside, I am a true beleiver that the CM's that work on the trains are the BEST!!

Yep, DLRR CMs are always great. Especially the engineers and firemen.
We usually ride on the tender at least once each day we are in the park. It gives you 20 minutes to chat with the engineer and fireman as you circle the park. We have learned some interesting things about the DLRR and the individual trains over the years.
Years ago, probably before some of you were born, they had a normal looking enclosed cars...passenger, mail, and freight cars. You could ride in any of them... I can remember sitting on a hay bail or a small wooden barrel(on end) in one of the freight enclosed cars riding around the park...it was lots of fun.
That set of cars were very period correct just like the engines.:)

Everytime the Mark Twain's whistle blew my 2 year old would say "Listen, I think the train is working now." It didn't matter how many times we had been through it, I still had to break his heart each time and explain it wasn't the train afterall...

Ditto - missed the trains!!! We really like taking the train around to the different lands. We had a first-timer with us and would have loved to do the loop so she could get the whole feel of it.
