We nixed Boardwalk Inn...

That's funny. We booked the BW this time because of the location, room pictures, & CL reviews. The clown doesn't bother me but we probably wouldn't use that pool anyway or use the slide, so it doesn't matter.

I think the point is more that there are how many hotels at Disney World? Why would you stay at one that even a seemingly insignificant (to others) issue bothers you if you find another that doesn't have that same problem.

I don't think that Disney was necessarily risking anything by doing the clown theme. It goes with the whole boardwalk Idea and they have much to choose from for those who don't like it.

I have looked at boardwalk and dreamed of being able to afford to stay there. I have never thought negatively about the clown. I have never had an issue with clowns - my kids might though. They don't like the mall easter bunny or the mad hatter. They seem to over the top weird for them. My dd used to love the teletubbies but would run from the room crying when they showed the baby/sun. Different things freak out different people. I may have issues after reading this thread though.

The conversation with the child that one person shows so misses the point. I wouldn't stay there and then tell my child that they couldn't use the pool because of that - I just wouldn't stay there. As far as the two quiet pools are concerned - there is no way I'd pay for that kind of hotel and then seclude myself to the quiet pools. So as I said, I would pick something else.

One thing you learn after reading the DIS for a long time.....there are just about as many opinions are their are readers!

We discovered BWI about 6 years ago - we DO "sleep around" (BCV next time - castmember rate too good to pass up.) BWI has our heart - especially after the refirb.

Funny thing....last BWI trip we arrived early and got a room immediately. Hummm....sounds great. Well, we walked ... and walked ... and walked. We finally arrived at the end of the hall......TWO Balconies - PERFECT room for us (we like walking).

We called for Bell Services to bring our bags down. A few minutes later we got a call from Bell Services asking if we were sure we would stay in the room.

Well, we said OF COURSE we are staying....corner room.....two balconies....I was already nesting.

Bell Services said they always double check for this room - at the end of the hall it's apparently one of the most rejected rooms at the Inn.

Good news for us - that room will be more often available when we checkin...and we will be taking a room others do not like.

Different tastes for all of us...and we don't mind the clown at all.

serioiusly, should they remove the giraffes from AKL for those with a fear? :confused3

i do have a dislike for massive crowds - not a phobia, and like many won't stay at the BC anymore because of how overcrowded (and noisy :headache:) their pool becomes.
i don't expect bc to change it.

While some may find it strange, it really isnt. People have all sorts of phobias and they really can hinder life experiences. My daughter HATES clown with a passion. She is petrified and on more than one occasion has had a panic attack (once just because she saw one on a commercial and one at a birthday party). I agree you should book somewhere else if you feel that strongly about it because you dont want to have to seclude yourself to one part of the hotel because of a fear. I would never put my daughter through that.

I myself have a phobia of balloons. I can deal with the mylar ones but the latex or rubbery ones I cant even look at without cringing or darn near hyperventalating (stems from a traumatic childhood experience). Someone popped a balloon in my office today and my boss had to coax me out from under my desk and i was shaking like crazy to the point he sent me home early.

They should have used circles for the eyes, not stars. Most minds perceive it as X's which is the symbol for a dead person. So your mind sees it as a dead clown.

OMG that's what I always thought, it looks like a dead clown with orange worms around it's head! Now I have to take a valium!:scared1:

Just jumped on board this clown discussion. Very interesting comments and I agree with the DISer regarding different strokes, etc. I just booked the BWV for the third time. We have stayed at Poly, Mu., POP and BCV. Love the atmosphere of the walkways into Epcot and the Boat ride to MGM. I agree, the clown really is not much of an attraction but my kids and granddaughter NEVER mention it once. Guess because when my son was born his bedroom theme was a circus and clowns were everywhere. He is now 32 and has the happiest personality in the family!

as an option based SOLELY on the clown. :scared1:

Is that wrong?

HECK NO!! He reminds me of Jack from Universal's Halloween Horror Nights!

That said though, we've had some perfectly lovely stays at BWI so perhaps you could just steer clear of the pool area :scared1:

We had a wonderful 1 week stay at BWI last December. The clown slide did not bother me a bit. Perhaps it is because we never once went to the pool. :). The best part of staying at BWI for us was the ability to walk to Epcot and the boat to DHS.

Even though the clown is creepy to me, I'd still stay at BW and I'm actually planning to do just that!

You are so exactly right!:thumbsup2

We all have strong feelings about certain things. If those strong feelings intersect with our resort choice, then good for us for saying "I'll stay someplace else".

A fear of clowns is very, very common. Its not rationale anymore than fears of flying, spiders, heights etc. But its a real fear and if that clown slide creeps some people out, then no matter how many of you say "I stayed there and it was wonderful" isn't going to change a thing for that other person. I for instance have a strong fear of heights and could never stay in an upper level room that had a balcony. I'd be the moron that would tell the CR cm I didn't want the Club Level upgrade!

To each their own. My son had a fear of clowns but by the time we stayed at BWV he was over it. I do have to say, it was sort of creepy even for me (not afraid of clowns) to see my dd come flying out of that clown's mouth!

I think clowns can be freaky but I booked BWI for 2011. So, I guess I don't have a paralyzing fear, lol.

I don't care for clowns either but BW is a beautiful resort. My 9 yr old son's favorite thing during the trip was to get spit out by the clown. :lmao: He loved the pool and slide.

My daughter would cancel an entire vacation if she knew about the clown. She is terrified of them. She refused to work Tuesday nights at her job as they have a clown come in that night. She was petrified at my little cousin's 1st birthday party of the clown theme. She had to get a plain paper plate for the cake as she refused to have it served on a clown plate.

She is 22.

but the resort is great and I've gotten used to the clown. You should try it.

I agree, I am freaked by clowns, but have stayed at the BWV and Inn at least 12 times!!! Never once have I noticed the "clown":confused3
And if staying in the Inn, you are not even near the clown. YOu could also use the quite pool. I think the Inn is one of the best kept secrets! so that is kool...we do not want the secret to get out!

Canceling a reservation becuase of a the character around a slide in a pool is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

I know this is about the clown slide (but I don't have anything to say about that, I think it totally fits the resort theming and have no problem with it), but I was wondering if you had pictures of your room at the end of the hall? It sounds nice to have a corner room, walking wouldn't be the biggest deal, if I can walk in the parks I can walk to a room. How was the view from the end of the hall?

I've always wanted to stay at the BWI, it seems really nice and I love the theming, this year I was out voted so we stayed at the Poly (which I totally loved) but I'd still love to stay at the BWI some day (decisions decisions...)
