I can kind of understand where the OP is coming from. I was browsing through thread titles this morning and thinking back about how stress free it used to be to plan a Disney vacation. We didn't know if there was construction at the resort, or if a ride was being refurbished until we arrived. We had old fashioned metal keys that went in metal locks (remember the ones at CR shaped like CR?) so the door always opened. We had to show resort ID to use transportation, and it was never crowded. I remember when everything was spontaneous, and nothing was planned but maybe your hotel reservation.
Did we get a surprise every now and then? Sure. I remember quite a few, but I don't remember hearing any one complaining about it. Everyone just kind of went with the flow, and had a great time, and we didn't stress before, during, or after. If the lobby was torn apart for a rehab, or the pool had been torn out for a replacement, we dealt with it and didn't allow it to ruin our trip in the slightest. Sometimes it seems like these days the smallest thing can get blown way out of proportion (not just Disney).
So sometimes, when there are a lot of negative threads, I miss those days when there was a lot less knowledge and a little more magic.
I think some have missed the OP's point. Some of us are looking for valid info on planning. It's very difficult when you have to wade through threads of bickering back and forth or redundant threads like FP+. I get it, people want to complain. May be have a complaint board...I believe that has come up more than once. All the op did was....voice her complaint.![]()
It sounds like a break would be a good thing for the OP. In looking at her recent posts, 4 of the first 7 that come up are complaints about complaints.
OP, I hope you find a board you are happy with. Although, I do concur with the suggestion to try out the trip reports section here. It's full of great positive stories.
Baby come back! You can blame it all on me....
I was wrong, and I just can't live with Fastpass....
I mean, without you......
I don't know about anyone else but I find the bantering that goes on here to be highly entertaining! I love checking up on this board in the morning with my cup of tea and see what hilarity I have missed. If I really need information, I just head for the stickies.

Wow. I firmly believe that the people here must troll threads looking to post snarky, off topic and hypocritical comments. Heaven help the new posters.

I started going in the late 80s and I dont ever recall a time like you described until FP came along. I remember as a teen being dragged out of bed bc we had to take the bus from the Grovesnor on Idrive so we could be there in time for rope drop. I remember later in the day waiting in long lines. Then I went later in the early 90s and it was more of the same waiting in 2 hour long lines for Splash in melting FL sun. DH and I swore we would never go back. DS came along in 1997, we went in 2002, and read a guide book about FP, and we fell in love with the place! SO the fact that WDW is messing with FP now, and I am not sure it is for the best, I am going to keep a close eye on threads, aprreciate people's honesty, and give my own feedback from my trip. I want the TRUTH, I dont want pixied dusted posts who dont give me the real low down.
I've been going since 1971, so my memories of WDW go back a little farther than yours, that's all. Some of my fondest memories of those early trips with the ticket books was all of us sitting around a shaded table somewhere deciding what to do next based on what tickets we had left. The lines for the attractions didn't start to get bad until Disney went to the all inclusive ticket when Epcot opened. Once people had unlimited access, they wanted to squeeze as much as possible into their day and only ride their few favorite attractions. Not saying that was wrong - but it made for a totally different scenario in the parks.
The longer a person has been going to WDW, the more changes we have seen, and the more we understand that change will be inevitable - some good and some bad as well. If I don't like what they are doing now, a year or two down the road something will change again and I may like that better.
I agree that the boards are good only if we get truthful feedback from our fellow visitors. It just feels like there are so many threads right now from people in a panic who haven't experienced the changes first hand, and a lot of the replies are speculation from other people who haven't experienced the changes first hand. I know the board is a place for everyone to trade information - but it just seems like there has been a lot more negativity lately from people who haven't even tried the new system yet. I've tried it on two trips now, and although I had a lot of glitches on the first trip, the second one went fine.
In a way, the new system is circling back to the old ticket book system in that you have tiered levels of attractions and they are trying to evenly disburse the crowds between them. The big difference was that if you had three E tickets in your book, you could use them all for one attraction, if you wanted to, and you could buy additional individual tickets as well. Since we're still in the test and adjust phase it's possible the final FP+ product could end up the same in the end. We just don't know that yet. The fact that there is so much wording about how it may depend on the time of year, time of day, overall demand, etc. tells me that Disney wants to keep it flexible so if something isn't working they can change it right away.
My issue is that they kept the "all-inclusive" pricing but now want to revert the benefits back to the old ticket book system.
And I'm just oh so weary of hearing people say you can't have an opinion until you've risked thousands of dollars to try it in person.
I can agree that maybe you need to try the magic band in person to know if you'd like it. But how hard is it to know you won't like 3 tiered fastpasses with no duplicates? Anyone who has been to Disney a few times knows what they like. They know if there are enough things they won't have a fastpass for that they will enjoy enough to fill in for the headliners they used to ride. They know what the wait times are like on the rides in the parks. They know how long in the parks doing favorite attractions it will take for them to feel like they got value for what they spent.
I think the "you must try it in person before you can have an opinion" approach is just a way of discounting the opinion of some very knowledgeable and experienced park goers.
Whats that saying, "The guilty dog barks first and/or loudest"?
No surprise here that the usual suspects that are loudest about their dislike for all things FP+ all came together to bash the OP.
I would say a good 95% of the FP+ threads are just the same arguments rehashed over and over again. There is no new info on most of those threads where the same 10 or so people all show up to complain about FP+, speculate how disastrous it will be, minimize people's positive experiences with FP+, etc, etc, etc. These threads usually grow so large that people looking for real info/updates have to wade their way through pages of gloom and how incompetent Disney is.
As a side note, it is amazing that AK did not close down with their testing of FP+ only.... See, even the most experienced of park goers have faulty predictions. But of course when they are wrong, they will go back and edit previous posts and rationalize and try to show where they were still right.
I dont blame the OP for leaving but do not think they should have made this post. It is in the vein of a YAGE(yet another grand exit). This thread just opened the door for the malcontents to make this into another "why we hate FP+" thread.
I am also sure we will get some picture postings on this thread and maybe if we are lucky, someone will post another patent where they can draw biased conclusions from.... one can only dream
