Do you have a place to store your bikes with safety at night and not in your room?? Do you use the bikes to get around the resort or shelter cove??
How is the resort in general is it family friendly we have 13 yr old twins a friend of course that is 13 and a 3 1/2 year old.

I'll give it a try! :cheer2:

We love Hilton Head. It is the best family vacation that we take in a years time. It's nothing like a trip to Disney World, it's relaxing and great family time. We've been yearly for the last 7 years and can't wait to go back!

We have never rode bikes at night. I believe the paths have lights but in my opinion, not enough light for a biker to be seen from the beach and back to the resort. The path for bikes is right along the main road into Palmetto Dunes so there will be cars driving along the same road. We enjoy going to the beach at night, but always take the car and park at the beach house. There is a fabulous Kite Shop in Hilton Head where we have picked up some easy flier kites which we take with us down to the beach at night. The kite shop is in Coligny Plaza.

We also always rent bikes for the length of stay. We enjoy riding to and from the beach during the day, as well as the grocery store and the Cold Stone Creamery. Hilton Head is mostly bike friendly and the resort will have bikes with either a seat on the back or a trailer for your 3 year old. The paths are easy to ride on - our youngest has been riding them since he was 3 or 4 without any problems.

There are bike racks provided at the resort, as well as locks with the rental. We've used these the last couple of years, but when full, it's easy enough to chain them up to a tree if needed.

My kids enjoy riding the bikes around the resort. It's not a huge island that Disney is located on but they enjoy the freedom of hoping on the bike and going. A lot of times we'll ride our bikes down to the Lodge so the kids can play pool on the pool table. I would suspect your 13 year olds would enjoy that as well and it's always easier to hop on a bike to get there than to walk -- at least in a kids eyes.

Most of our meals we cook, by choice, as it's usually easier than dragging the kids back to the room to shower and change, then go out to dinner. We do enjoy lunch at the Sea Shack and just this past trip, we found Just Pasta in Coligny Plaza which was awesome as well. I'm sure we'll be stopping at both next summer when we return.

My kids love nature and enjoy crab fishing as well as regular fishing from the pier at the resort, as well as other spots that they have found around the resort. Chicken necks work very well for bait in a crab net. Crab nets can be purchased right at the resort and they rent fishing poles as well.

I hope you have a fabulous trip. Being we went in March this year for a change of pace, we're going to have a long wait before our trip back next summer.

Thanks so much for the great detail. We are also planning on most dinners in with the tought that is perhaps a bit easier that waiting in a line. We are all reasy to kick back, relax and have some much needed R and R. I am leaning towards renting the bikes for the length of stay. It sounds like the kids will enjoy riding the bikes around the resorts and having a bit of freedom.
Thank you for the info it will help us to pre plan for out trip in a few weeks.

Warmly,
The Pisano's
