we need Akershus dinner feedback

As part of our "Undiscovered Disney" trip this coming April, we are going to eat in places we never have. One of those ideas was Akershus dinner.

Now, there is plenty on info about the Princess Breakfast, and even some about the lunch. But, I cannot find dinner reviews (and maybe pics?).

We are an adventurous family when it comes to eating. We do not shy away from hot or unusual foods, although our staples are pretty much meat and starches like most people.

Anyone have dinner at Akershus recently and care to share their reviews?

It was okay- not great but fine. There is a cold buffet with fruit, salads, cold cuts and some cold fish selections. For dinner the kids ate pasta and meatballs I think. DH ordered the venison which was pretty bland compared to other venison dishes we have eaten. I had a pork shank- it was fine but nothing amazing. Dessert was a tray of family style pastries. I'd go back since the kids had such a great princess experience. The service was good, the character intereraction was excellent- there were 4 princesses plus Belle at the greeting. It's like what I would consider an "olive garden of norway". The menu looks intimidating to many, but the food is pretty bland and non crazy when you really get into it.

FIL is Scandinavian and he LOVED Akershus. The rest of us were skeptical about the food but everyone found something that they truly loved. The Salmon is WONDERFUL and DH liked his pork shank too.

The Princesses being there was an added bonus.

We wouldn't hesitate to eat there again.

I think my family is one of the few who go to Akershus in spite of the Princesses rather than because of the Princesses. My father's side of the family is all Scandinavian and he, my brother and myself were all raised on the stuff so it's very homey and delicious as far as we're concerned. My poor mother, whose family is entirely German, would much prefer a brat, but she can always find something she likes. It's a lovely place and the food is great. I suggest you try one of the Aquavit drinks, they're fab. (And if you're staying on property, you don't have to drive home! )

We went in Sep 06. DH had that strange thing - Kjottkaker. He called it the world's worst meatloaf. I had the ribs. They didn't have much meat and were fatty. I didn't find much that looked appealing on the bar and ended up eating mostly bread and nearly left hungry. The desserts were good, but not great. The princess time was very brief because my DDs can be very shy. I think with the pictures we took, it was probably 30 seconds or so per princess. My girls got better time meeting them randomly on the streets of Epcot. We probably wouldn't go back - at least not for dinner. We would have gladly taken refills on drinks and dessert, but we weren't offered any or given a chance to ask.

I'm going to january and I can't wait. I like trying "new food" and the menu certainly intrigues me (as well as the aquavit ;-) ) I hope both you and I enjoy it!
