we need a microwave at Pop

I'm guessing you don't know how much extra wattage/power a microwave sucks?

It's already been established Pop does not allow microwaves in a room ~ for multiple reasons. That's why microwaves are provided in the food court.

The rule is there for a reason. Not for people to just say "eh, the rules don't apply to me, I'm going to do what I want anyway." :headache:

Actually.... a microwave energy usage is about 700-1100 watts. Lets compare that to a hair dryer 1200-1875 watts. Should I not bring my hair dryer??? Will I blow a fuse?? lol

I have only heard a bunch of Dis posters say microwaves aren't allowed. Haven't seen anything from an official Disney website that microwaves aren't allowed in the rooms.

OP. I've realized Dis posters like to set their own rules. Quite frankly, I wouldn't give it too much weight unless you get it from the horses mouth.

The rooms at pop are small..... your biggest issue is going to be finding a place to plug it in. Consider just using the microwaves at the food court.... but if that's not going to work for your family..... then do what you have to do.

If it's against the rules, I certainly would not advise another Disser to break the rules and run the risk of having their vacation ruined by being asked to leave the resort, and, the DISboard rules state that users are NOT allowed to encourage another user to break rules.

If you'll go to the Disney website - you'll see that it states that these are NOT allowed. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not there.

I"m assuming you're not going to be cooking gourmet meals with a lot of garlic..... I don't think the smell is going to be an issue either.

It wouldn't have to be something with garlic cooking for it to smell. It could just be popcorn or bacon.

Anyway, Disney says no to micorwaves in standard rooms. The Value resorts have them at the food court for you to use. Otherwise, maybe look into upgrading to a room that does have a microwave. The Family Suites at the
All Star Music have them, as do any DVC properties.

went to the disney website.... and I didn't see it. Must be in the really tiny fine print. Please send me a link.

By the way... I'm NOT encouraging the OP to break any Disney rules. I have yet to see anything from Disney. If I did see something from Disney... then I would not suggest otherwise.

I just have to laugh at all the supposed "rules" DISers post on here.

Do people frown upon coffee pots in rooms too??? Is that breaking the rules?? Because I would HATE to smell coffee from the next room. I don't like coffee. But I wouldn't complain to the staff about it. I'm a "roll with the punches" kinda girl.

Use the number posted above for Pop. They'll tell you no flat out so it's not Dis posters setting their own rules.

It's basic common courtesy for those staying in the rooms around you. Why should I have to smell your food because you won't go to the food court to use the available microwave?

Nope - it's there in plain English:

Can food be brought into Walt Disney World Resort hotels and Theme Parks?

Guests are allowed to bring food items-such as snacks or foods that do not require heating-into any Walt Disney World Resort hotel. If you have food items that need to be refrigerated, please ask the front desk at your hotel to have a refrigerator placed in your room. Refrigerator may require an additional charge. Guests are allowed to bring food items-such as snacks or foods that do not require heating-into any Walt Disney World Theme Park. Inform a Security Cast Member of any food items when you enter the Theme Park.

Now, if food does not require heating, then this means that these are not allowed:

Toasters
Toaster Ovens
Microwaves
Crock Pots
Grills
Hot Plates
Roasters
Sterno
George Foreman Grills

In other words - ONLY FOOD THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE HEATING is allowed. :lmao:

Thank you all for answering! I appreciate it, I did in fact call just a few minutes ago (thanks to the poster for the number) She put me on hold for a brief minute and said she asked housekeeping and came back and said yes I can have a microwave in my room so I guess there is my answer straight from the horses mouth. :cool1:

I guess I am one of the few who have never needed a microwave in our hotel room. Even when my kids were babies and on formula, we were always able to get by without one.

well... what do you know!! microwaves ARE allowed.

Thank you Nayan for posting something from a Disney website.

OP... go for it.... rent a microwave and cook till your heart's content. lol

Do not make the mistake of thinking the Mom's panel know what's what. They don't. These are the same moms who told people you don't need a park hopper to park hop. :sad2: They are not reliable AT ALL! Apologies to any moms from the panel here, but they give out some bad info! And Disney doesn't do a very good job of vetting their answers.

I honestly think the Mom's panel was a bad idea on Disney's part, as they don't take the time to make sure the right information is going out.

I could get by without one...my hubby on the other hand likes to eat late at night and whats to be able to heat something up I guess. Figures he would make things difficult

I'm glad you called.... and you got it straight from the horses mouth. You'll have people on here now saying the person who gave you this info was wrong. Just do what you need to do.

Uh oh! She asked housekeeping? No offense, but um, no. Housekeeping doesn't make the rules. This is not good. You need an informed answer, and the Disney Execs have all ready said "no." Sorry.

I was thinking that the answer shouldn't have come from housekeeping either. Our "mousekeeper" was great this year but we have had some in the past that didn't even vacumn or take the dirty towels out of the tub.

Perhaps you can give the OP your phone number so when they are asked to leave the property she'll have a place to go...contrary to what you think MOST of us answered her in good faith & tried to assist her...not trying to circumvent the rules with a "do what you need to do attitude"

Yeah housekeeper may be able to bring them home with her...never mind MightyMom

I would call again and ask to speak to a housekeeping supervisor and/or a resort manager. The person who answered the phone was most likely not even actually AT the resort. The resort "numbers" actually all go to a call center which is answered as the resort (this has been confirmed on these boards by employees).

It's not even the wattage that the microwave uses (though that is a concern) but also the fact on how the circuit is supposed to be set up. Do most homeowners understand that? No, but there are regulations and laws on this. If the wiring at the value resorts can't handle the microwave, then no microwaves allowed.

But then again, we could all just be lying to the OP.

At least hubbie could have his hot snack! :lmao:

The scare tactics crack me up!!! lol :lmao:

get kicked out the resort... lol

at the very most I can see them asking her to stop using it... but getting kicked out! OMG! hilarious!! Especially when info is given on the Disney website AND from a POP employee!!

Oh... I know... someone saw someone being kicked out of the resort for using a microwave.... I know I know... I've read it all here on the DIS.

There's a lot of good info here... but come on people. I know most info is given in good faith... and so was mine.

Again, the info about microwaves was not from Disney, but from some people who supposedly are Disney experts. From a part of the Disney web-site that they don't pay nearly close enough attention to. And has been shown to give out bad information! Unless you too believe you don't need a park hopper to park hop?:confused3 You should trust the people on the Dis way more than the Mom's panel!

I've had a Disney houskeeper tell me before that POR only has one bus stop. Guess I should have believed them, and not noticed those other 3 areas labeled as bus stops.:lmao:

People here usually know way more than those on the Mom's panel. They try to help, not push their own adgendas. If Disney wanted microwaves in all rooms they would either put them in or rent them out. Talk about a money maker! Yet they do neither.

Common sense should tell you you shouldn't cook in a room without a kitchen. If you need to use a microwave either use the one provided, or rent a suite or DVC unit that supplies you with one.
