we need a microwave at Pop

Nope - it's there in plain English:

Can food be brought into Walt Disney World Resort hotels and Theme Parks?

Guests are allowed to bring food items-such as snacks or foods that do not require heating-into any Walt Disney World Resort hotel. If you have food items that need to be refrigerated, please ask the front desk at your hotel to have a refrigerator placed in your room. Refrigerator may require an additional charge. Guests are allowed to bring food items-such as snacks or foods that do not require heating-into any Walt Disney World Theme Park. Inform a Security Cast Member of any food items when you enter the Theme Park.

Now, if food does not require heating, then this means that these are not allowed:

Toasters
Toaster Ovens
Microwaves
Crock Pots
Grills
Hot Plates
Roasters
Sterno
George Foreman Grills

In other words - ONLY FOOD THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE HEATING is allowed. :lmao:

So how do you justify using the microwave in the food court to pop your popcorn, heat your Hot Pockets, whatever? If you're not allowed to bring foods that need to be heated into the resorts, then you're breaking Disney's rules by doing so. So just what is the microwave in the food court for?:confused3

I knew that someone would ask this question. :lmao: The answer is simple and logical -- Disney sells food items in the gift shop that need to be heated, and provides microwaves in the food courts for guests to do so. Voilà!

If you're not clear -- read the Disney Website rules again - they are very clear that food that needs to be heated is not allowed.

Again, the info about microwaves was not from Disney, but from some people who supposedly are Disney experts. From a part of the Disney web-site that they don't pay nearly close enough attention to. And has been shown to give out bad information! Unless you too believe you don't need a park hopper to park hop?:confused3 You should trust the people on the Dis way more than the Mom's panel!

I've had a Disney houskeeper tell me before that POR only has one bus stop. Guess I should have believed them, and not noticed those other 3 areas labeled as bus stops.:lmao:
But isn't that Disney's problem, then? If a guest calls to ask a question and is given an answer by a Disney employee, that guest then assumes (and rightly so) that they've been given the correct information. I know if I called and was told by a Disney employee that I was allowed to have xyz appliance in my room, but then was told the opposite when I arrived at my resort, I'd be pretty angry. Disney should be accountable for the information given out by their employees, as it's not the guest's fault that they've been given incorrect information directly from Disney. Disney is responsible for properly training all of their employees; it should not be the guest's responsibility to scour the Internet & verify the information given to them by official Disney representatives (employees).

It isn't Disney's problem if their website states the answer, and the guest doesn't believe it, or the Disney Execs, or anyone else that tells them, but calls and chooses to believe the housekeeper. :rolleyes1

The scare tactics crack me up!!! lol :lmao:

get kicked out the resort... lol

at the very most I can see them asking her to stop using it... but getting kicked out! OMG! hilarious!! Especially when info is given on the Disney website AND from a POP employee!!

Oh... I know... someone saw someone being kicked out of the resort for using a microwave.... I know I know... I've read it all here on the DIS.

There's a lot of good info here... but come on people. I know most info is given in good faith... and so was mine.

Are you always this much of an ***???

I thought I'd stir the pot a little more. All this time I thought everyone was picking on some poor soul that needed a microwave for medication or baby formula but really - just for a snack - how hard is it to go to the food court.

Enjoy your day everyone :surfweb:

And at midnight, no less? I don't know about you, but I don't want to be waken up in the middle of the night by the smell of someone else's nuked burrito.

Wow, just wow.

I consider it more of a common courtesy issue. I wouldn't want to smell food cooking from others rooms and I wouldn't do it to someone else. The resorts have restaurants and food courts and they also offer accommodations with a kitchen.

If a microwave is a must the answer is to stay where they are already provided.

I going to bring my big Kitchen Aide Mixer and a toaster over so I can bake bread for breakfast.I don't think anyone would mind listening to it kneed dough....:lmao:

A little microwave doesn't use excessive power. That is why the students in dorms can have them. And, really, I don't think the smell of a burrito or popcorn is any more offensive than cold bologna and cheese, or peanut butter. Ewwww. That said, the website says they aren't allowed. I always take print on the official site over verbal or written on other sites.

There are plenty of food options available, and they will let you use the ones in the food court. We had to heat up a couple of things from the little store.

Let me know how you are going to cook it!

There are easier ways to deal with problems than toting around fairly large appliances, I would think.

Regardless if it's against the "rules" or not I'm stunned that there are people who schlep toasters & microwaves w/ them on vacation. :confused3

Really, that is all that needs to be said. Doesn't matter if you were told verbally that it should be okay (from some random person in a call center who really has no authority to approve it)... it is on the web site that you may not have food in the room that requires you to heat it. Since THAT is in writing, THAT is what will be used as proof of the policy.

OP, unless you get something in writing from someone with authority at PoP, then you should go with what is on the website.

Oh, it definately is a problem! And one that pops up here time and time again! It is a shame that they are not doing a better job training CMs.:sad2: When I asked the housekeeper at POR about the nearest bus stop, and she told me there was only one, I already knew better. I feel for those who don't know better, and rely on the bad info they get.

I just want people to be aware that the people on the Mom's panel, while on a Disney web-site, are not always accurate, and is not the best place to get your info. It is not a realiable source of good info. I don't believe the people on the panel are offical disney employees either.

While your bread is kneading , light a cigarette on your way out the door, & go to the food court for some free soda with your refillable cup you bought in 1998. If the bread still isn't done get on the bus & run over to AKL for a nice dip in the pool :rotfl:

Last time I noticed (it was a year+ ago) there was a disclaimer right on the Mom's Panel site saying that they do not speak for Disney in any official capacity. Actually, I just decided to go back and check - here's an excerpt of what it says in the "About the Mom's Panel" section:
The views expressed in the Walt Disney World® Moms Panel are those of the panelists, who are independent contractors, and may not be factually accurate. These views are not intended to reflect the opinions of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online, its affiliates, its management, its agents or its employees.

Although I do have a friend who was on the Mom's Panel in its first year, so I wouldn't slam them or anything, not everyone there is as knowledgeable as many regular DIS posters. And in truth, they don't speak for Disney any more than anyone on the DIS does.

I don't know the rules about microwaves at my dds' colleges, but I know if they wanted a refrigerator and a microwave, they had to get a combo unit from the school...the refrigerator turns off when the microwave is in use because of the amount of power it uses. But that's a different situation than the rare person bringing a microwave to WDW. Altho honestly, the way ideas like this (bringing a microwave) on the DIS spread like wildfire, who knows. Is there really no microwave swap yet???

Funny...I never smelled cold bologna/cheese or peanut butter from another room in my house, but I can smell food cooking throughout.

First I have to hit up all the food courts for free butter and jelly packets. Gotta have fixin's for my bread.:thumbsup2

Costco was selling a camp oven a couple of weeks ago, you should go pick one up.:thumbsup2
