We needed to put our previous dog down last month (we got Riley when he was 8 years old, and we put him down due to bone cancer at 12)

We have been checking, checking and checking rescues, humane societies, petfinders etc. I had a "pity party" last weekend, since this dog-finding process was going way slower than we would have liked.

DH and I checked out a dog on Saturday, at the HS in our county. Just wasn't quite the right fit. Later on Saturday -the HS got in 6 dogs...we went tonight to go check out one of the newbies. The new dogs were on the website today. We immediately left the house after we saw them - cuz the HS was closing in 45 minutes.

Yep - I think he will do well in our home. The HS has a room with a couch in it. After Duncan was done sniffing the room for a few minutes - he came over by me and just put his head on the couch right next to me. And then he just sighed. It was too cute!

We have him on hold - need to do a phone interview tomorrow morning. And, DD16 wants to go meet him after school tomorrow.

Duncan needs to be nuetered (Wednesday) and then can come home on Friday. So - I am keeping my fingers crossed... Duncan is a yellow lab mix, about 60 pounds. and is estimated to be 6-8 years old. He likes other dogs. Their temperment test indicated can go to a house without infants and toddlers. (Now - FWIW - they did his temperment test immediately after this dog was transported for 6 hours, in a van with 5 other dogs. They think he may have been just a little stressed due to the transfer.)

Not posting any pictures until he's home;)

Duncan sounds awesome! What a smart guy staying off the couch during his "interview". How much do you bet he jumps right onto the couch when you bring him home??:rotfl:

You sound awesome, too. Not everyone would consider adopting a "middle-aged" dog so I hope everything works out for both of you!

Hope you get to bring Duncan home!!! Keep us posted and post pictures :)

Heck - this guy will get his own couch...(we have an old one in our living room)! In theory - that will mean he will stay off our nice ones. And - the nice ones are navy -so it is really easy to see if they've been on them!

You couldn't pay me to have a puppy...Our old dog was also an "mutture guy" when we got him from the humane society.

Of course I'll post pictures when he is home. That is one of the Disboard rules!

Congratulations to Duncan on finding a wonderful home with his own sofa and lots of love:goodvibes
