we are moving down there!!! The resort was fabulous, but we just loved the area. Any other South Carolinians out there that can give us input to the Bluffton, Hilton head and surrounding areas?!

Kathy:

I'd love to move down to HHI as well. If I could only figure out a way to make a living down there, I would go in a heartbeat. Good luck with your plans.

You don't say if you are retired or working, but keep in mind that the commuting on and off the island for people who have to leave to work is horrendous. Also, unless you have big bucks, the property is pretty expensive.

Bluffton is a lovely small town dripping with Southern charm and atmosphere. But it is a very small town. Have you looked at Beaufort, about 45 minutes from HH and on the coast. It's a really nice small size city that's developing rapidly, but still small enough to retain it's charm. An even bigger city along the same lines is Savannah, more more touristy than Beaufort.

thanks gang! I am a reg. nurse so work isn't an issue and my dh wants to start his own business. We could pay cash for a home in a gated community with what we would sell this house for...I think it's insane but the Long Island housing market isout of control. I am leaning towards a suburb (probably Bluffton) but am looking for good schools most of all! We have friends in Beufort and they love it!

Sounds like a dream come true! Who needs winter anyway? We just visited Disney HH and on the way home, dh said "Boy it would be nice to live there" which shocked me, because he always grumbles when I talk about moving to Florida!

Another thing I bet you'll love is the "pace." We left NJ years ago and moved to the Midwest, and now I am adjusted to the slower pace and friendliness of Indiana. I love NJ and consider myself a "Jersey Girl," but think I am better suited to living here. When we visit back East, things seem a bit "hectic" to us. Friends of ours who live in Charleston never stop commenting about how "nice" eveyone is down there. I guess it's a southern thing!

Congratulations. You'll be saying "y'all" before you know it!

I live in SC and in fact lived in HH for 1 year. At that time, I swore I would never go back, Of course, we visited the resort, loved it and ended up adding on. Bluffton has changed a lot. Most of the outlet shopping malls are located in Bluffton. Beaufort is quaint and is worth a visit although you can not spend more than a day there. At Halloween they have a ghost tour. Really cool. Tehre are many places to eat in HH. We used to go to Aunt Chilada's for all you can eat crablegs which I believe they still do. We also at San Miguel's alot which is right across from the resort. We received terrible service at the Pizza place, I think Guiseppi's which is located in the strip mall next to Shelter Cove mall. Pineland Mill shops is located midisland and is full of neat specialty shops and a wonderful French bakery which I believe is still there. That's about all I remember. Hope this gives you some info.

Sounds like a sensible move to me. We visited HHI for the first time two years ago, fell in love with the resort and the area, and closed on a small house in Bluffton two months ago. We're not at all in a position to move there yet, but we wanted to put our stake in the ground. We're renting out the house.

We were guided to Bluffton because it offered flexibility for commuting and activities, so would be attractive to many people at different points in their lives. It's a rapidly growing area with many conveniences.

It's early yet, but we are quite pleased with our decision. Lots of luck to you. I'm sure you'll be happy. How could you not?

Hey Tomskatt, I am also an RN who would love to move to Coastal SC. I would prefer Charleston or Beaufort. Keep us posted on the move and RN job op's for me please. Good Luck!

I am getting more and more excited about the move! Thank you everyone for your input! We are leaning towards Bluffton or Beufort for the reasons mentioned above. Gotta tell you, DVCWannabe, the job opps are tremendous! Sign on bonuses and any shift at almost all the area hospitals! The salary is close to my present one (though I do work for NY State so that's not a great thing!;) ) so c'mon down!!!! You guys are really the greatest! Thanks again!
