Oh I am really upset. It seems to always happen when we have a trip planned. Our well died and we need to replace a pump for at least $3000. I am sitting here crying. But it is what it is.

Is your trip paid for? A couple of years ago I had a trip paid off, and our neighborhood flooded. We lost the house, the car, everything, but the trip was paid off, and I went anyway. I really needed it! :lmao:

:grouphug: Hang in there! It seems like everytime we get ready to go to Disney something major goes wrong. :headache: Hope everything works out for you and you still have a magical trip!:wizard:

I am so sorry that happened to you. The last trip we had planned, things kept happening that made us reschedule. After moving the trip several times, it finally seemed "set". I had all our ADR's made, and would look at them daily b/c I was surprised that I was able to get all the ones we wanted. I was able to get CRT dinner on Mother's Day and LeCellier. Finally we just had to cancel. It was my decision based on finances. Knowing it was a good decision didn't make it hurt any less. When the call was made to cancel, I made my DH make the call. I was crying so hard that I knew the CM wouldn't be able to understand me. Right now we are loosely planning a trip for January 2012.

I feel your pain, we had to reschedule 3 x's over 2 years before our trip 2 weeks ago. WHat type of pump nees replacing? If it is wter realted to your house, better that it happened while you are still home and no *surprises* upon your return!

I do feel for you. Our well pump died about 5 years ago and cost $1,200 here. I have had many smaller things happen lately and don't think that I can really afford to go. I have it paid off but savings are way down but I had promised this trip for my daughters graduation.:confused3

:hug:Do you have to cancel? My heart is just breaking for you! :sad2: I will pray that they find a very cheap fix not a major problem when they go to repair it! Wouldn't it be great if they "misdiagnosed" I'll keep hoping for the pixie dust!

Thanks all. The trip thankfully is still a go. I have fingers crossed that tomorrow won't bring any other surprises when they open up the well. I am going to stay positive. I just took a shower at a friend's house and feel much better already.

I am so sorry:hug:, my pump died on December 22nd this past year. The water level was too low and the pump took in too much dirt. We had to dig a new well and it was $5800 after all was said and done. I called it my Christmas gift to myself. Just enjoy your trip and get upset after you get home. I forgot all about it until after Christmas and then looked at my bank statement and cried. They should be able to get the pump replaced before you leave, I got a whole new well and pump and lines in less then 24 hours.

I'm glad you are still able to have your trip. We just replaced our well pump yesterday 2 weeks after our Disney trip :scared1:. That was a budget buster after the budget busting trip .

$3,000 is quite a blow. I'm glad you're feeling better and hope you get good news tomorrow.

:)

wow that's an expensive pump! We just replaced ours and it cost about $350. I was upset over that, can't imagine how I'd be if it cost $3000! The good news for us is the well isn't going dry, like we were afraid it was. The bad news is if we'd checked the pump 6 months ago when our electric bill started to go sky high, we could of saved all that money. I'm also on the fence over 2 short trips, one for 4 days in Sept, one for 3/4 days in Dec.

Honey, things will work out for the best. Just think next year when you have all the memories of you trip to fall back on. just enjoy your trip.....Trust me things will work itself out.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. If it makes you feel any less alone I had a friend who spent 20,000 when her well went dry. They cold not find a vein of water and when they did it was so deep down it cost her a small fortune. This was a friend who was already struggling to keep her house due to health issues and actually had it up for sale. It was really sad.

I'm so glad that your trip is still on. I hope that all goes smoothly once they open the well.

Ugh. Sometimes I hate owning a house!!! ;)

A few years ago, DH and I had 2 weeks until our trip to WDW in Feb. I pulled up to our house after work (it's on a slab foundation - so, no basement) and saw what I thought was smoke (but turned out to be steam) pouring out from where the house frame meets the foundation. I opened the front door and our WHOLE living room and kitchen were FLOODED!!!! I hot water pipe on an exterior wall had frozen and burst. We had to replace all the flooring, some of the drywall, and get a plumber in to take care of the pipe.

Well, we got the plumber in right away, figured we could do the rest when we got back. About three days after the plumber "fixed" the problem, I pulled into my driveway (I was actually on the phone with my mom joking about having another burst pipe - we had been having a super cold snap), when, yes, I saw steam pouring out of my house AGAIN!!!! Called the plumber AGAIN, dried out the house again, and went on vacation!

OP - it is what it is. Go, enjoy your vacation - there's ALWAYS going to be something! Good luck with the pump (BTW, we replaced a pump a year ago - only about $400 - where are you getting the $3000 estimate?!!).

Sorry to hear this. I just posted about my expensive AC repair a few minutes ago. It's always something, isn't it? Glad that you're still able to take the trip!

Yeah why is my pump so expensive? I am on a mountain and we have a big house- so the pump is the going price around here. How big is your house with a pump that costs $400. Oh and I'm in NJ the state of the ridiculously expensive everything.

I believe she needs a new well not a new pump. When a water vein where the well is goes dry they have to drill for another water vein sometimes they are very deep and they charge by the foot where I live anyway. I think we paid $400 for a new pump with labor included a few years back.

Ok now I am confused. Java wasn't it you who was the OP and said it cost $3000? That would probably be to drill a new well and should not be for a pump only. Unless you have such a huge house you need 10 pumps. lol Get a second estimate if it is.
