We leave for the world in 15 days & my done tore his acl. & mcl . He is having surgery next week . Any suggestions ? I've already called our hotel to make sure I can rent a wheel chair but husband think he won't be able to ride or do anything ?

Any input ?

Also did they do away with guest assistance ? How will we maneuver around with crutches. & a wheel chair ?

He can definitely ride things! The disAbilities board will be able to give you more help with this, but yes the GAC is gone and has been replace with the DAS, neither of which are/were for mobility problems. Most lines at WDW are mainstreamed, meaning that the wheelchair can go through the regular line no problem. Where you'll have to make decisions is if he can transfer into the ride vehicle or needs to stay in the wheelchair.

I went to WDW with a fractured humerus. It's not the same thing but I was able to most things. I also went to Disneyland with torn cartilage in my knee. Rides were no problem but my knee hurt like crazy. I did not use a wheelchair and it took me three days to have semblance of walking normal.

Good luck

Consider renting an electric scooter rather than using a push wheelchair. It's well worth the money so that no one has to propel the wheelchair all the time. We used Apple Scooter Rentals, one of the approved Disney providers, last summer and would recommend them.

Do they deliver to the resorts? Or how would we get it, we are flying in?

I don't know what the recovery is like from ACL surgery, so his doctor may not want him to ride "thrill rides," but there's a lot at WDW that he should be able to do just fine.

Most of the lines are accessible, and ones that aren't will have another option. Cast members will always be happy to help you figure out where to go, and there's a guide for guests with disabilities available at guest relations, as well as in PDF format somewhere on the internet, that spells out the requirements for every ride and attraction.

Whether you decide to use a scooter or a wheelchair for him, rent one from an outside company. They will deliver to your resort. Disney's "preferred" companies can leave the rental (this is assuming you're staying on property) for you to pick up, other companies do require that you meet them to pick it up. It can be a hike to get around your resort or hotel, and from the bus stops/parking lots to the parks, so having the mobility device at those times helps a lot too.

If you plan to drive to and from the parks, most of the scooter rental companies have models that will break down for transport in a car trunk.

As for the crutches, I think there are a couple rental companies that will even put a carrier on the wheelchair or scooter for him to store the crutches in, so he can use them to transfer or move short distances.

Also, if you're flying, don't forget that you can ask for wheelchair assistance in airports too. There's no reason he should have to limp through airports on crutches!

You should definitely check with his doctor! When I tore my ACL, I had a follow-up a week later to remove the stitches and check the knee. I was pretty much off crutches within 1-2 weeks, but I was very slow, and if I was going to Disney World, I would definitely want a wheelchair. I do think a normal wheelchair instead of a motorized one would probably suffice though.
