We just made our reservation with Avis

There was a discount code I saw on Mousesavers however when we went to put it in on the website it had expried. Anyway we reserved a full size car which is a Chevrolet Impala or similar. In the past we would usually upgrade to that type of car at check-in, however since this was the 1st time we made the reservation online and selected the full size. So this time there is no need to upgrade when we check-in at the Avis location in MCO.

Not to be rude, but I've read your post three times and have no idea what the point is...

In the past when we called Avis they always had us down for an Intermediate car for whatever reason. However when we made the reservation online we got select the Full Size, so we don't need to upgrade to the Full Size when we check-in at Avis.

Is that meaning you paid for intermediate and upgraded to a full?

Don't feel bad Ducklite. I don't get it either. :lmao:

What's the point of the thread again?

Ugh - thanks for the reminder. I have to book about 5 rentals tonight for the next few weeks - one of those chores that I just can't stand. :crazy2:

but I don't use Avis. I use Hertz :)

I'm not sure, but I think the point might be that they (his parents) always rent a full-sized car, regardless of the price. That's what I'm deducting from his mention of first having a Mousesaver's code, then discovering it had expired, yet they booked a full-sized car anyway.

Of course, I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

You are correct.

That's darla - a very smart cookie! ;)

Not really. You'll notice I didn't hazard a guess as to WHY he felt that it was thread worthy. I only have a real knack for stating the obvious.

CR4Life, is there some reason that you didn't share that your parents always rent a full-sized car? I can't help but think maybe your thread just got off on the wrong foot. Perhaps you meant to tell us why , in your opinion, full-sized cars are better to travel in than mid-size or compact cars. I thought you and your parents usually drove in when you visit WDW.

Personally, I prefer driving mid-sized or compact cars, but on those rare occasions when I have traveled with my adult children, we have rented a van. Usually though, at the ages of 29, 23 and 20, they are far too busy with their own jobs and lives to travel with me, DH and DD13.

So do I - it's the German in me I believe, as we don't have as many large cars in Germany.

Oh, and for anyone who is interested, I just booked three of my rentals a few minutes ago (but with Hertz, not Avis). And they were for work, not WDW

And darlak, I still maintain that you are one smart cookie (and I like cookies...) ;)

Yes it's true we do drive to WDW, however when go in December we always fly down.

In the past when we would call Avis by phone to make the reservation, I guess they always had us down for an Intermediate once my Dad told them his Wizzard number. So in the past he always upgraded to the Full Size at the check-in desk. Plus our suit cases are big and they would not fit in an Intermediate.

When we made the reservation online it gave us the option of choosing the type of car we wanted, so now we don't need to upgrade at MCO.

ahhhh, so now it is a little more clear. Please let your father know that he doesn't need to reserve the default car in his profile.

As I mentioned, I prefer to drive smaller cars; while 'midsize' is in my profile at Hertz, I usually book a compact (and then they upgrade me anyways due to my status, but that is another story).

If your father doesn't want an intermediate, he can certainly reserve a full size.

You may want to tell him that he can either update his profile with his actual preferences, or that he can just reserve a full size in future.

I will let him know that.

Geez Louise! Nothing for nothing here, but how much stuff do you guys bring? DH and I are going to Napa and San Francisco for nine days in a couple of months--each of us will have a small roll-on plus he'll have his laptop bag while I'll have my camera bag. No checked bags at all!

There are only three of you in the car, right?

When DH and I went to DL we rented a convertible and we actually reserved it. Does that impress anybody? ;)

well, Hertz often upgrades me to a convertible for my DL or WDW vacations :rotfl2:

It doesn't impress me when they do that - doubt that it impresses anyone else either.....

Of course, I am the difficult Hertz Five Star member who always asks that they downgrade me to a smaller car :rolleyes1

The best upgrades I have gotten with Hertz have been in cities where I really didn't need the upgrade. No one to impress with the car I was driving. :)
